SYDNEY MAKEDONIA - MEMORIES OVER THE YEARS (BANKSTOWN CITY LIONS FC)
Sydney Makedonia was established in 1988 from the roots of the earlier Yagoona Macedonia (established 1975) which competed in the local Bankstown football competition. After a merger with Mladost and Caltex, Sydney Makedonia was formed and competed in the NSW Second Division before gaining promotion soon after to the NSW First Division. The club would go on to win the First Division title back to back in 1993 and 1994 as well as the Waratah Cup in 1994. The club would repeat this feat in the mid 2000's winning the NSW Premier League title back to back in 2004 and 2005. The club would then add an additional Waratah Cup trophy to their cabinet winning it a second time in 2008. Throughout its formation and existence the Sydney Makedonia (today called Bankstown City Lions) football club has retained its strong links to the Macedonian community of Sydney, in its glory days being one of the top supported Macedonian clubs in Australia. Many individuals have played a role in the club as players, supporters and volunteers throughout the years. The club remains one of the most successful clubs in the NSW football competition.
