Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. told a congregation in 1961, “Do you know that Negroes are 10 percent of the population of St. Louis and are responsible for 58% of its crimes? We’ve got to face that. And we’ve got to do something about our moral standards. We know that there are many things wrong in the white world, but there are many things wrong in the black world, too. We can’t keep on blaming the white man. There are things we must do for ourselves.”

Black Slave Master and Trader in South Carolina - The Curious Story of William Ellison
https://www.facebook.com/hiddencolumbia/videos /10150197461001481/ ....William Ellison was one of the wealthiest men in the South as well as being a black, former slave. He owned cotton gins, plantations, and 68 slaves. And from accounts of the time, he wasn't very nice...At the peak of slavery in the United States, large numbers of free Negroes owned black slaves; in fact, in numbers disproportionate to their representation in society at large. In 1860 only a small minority of whites owned slaves. According to the U.S. census report for that last year before the Civil War, there were nearly 27 million whites in the country. Some 8 million of them lived in the slaveholding states. The census also determined that there were fewer than 385,000 individuals who owned slaves. Even if all slaveholders had been white, that would amount to only 1.4 percent of whites in the country (or 4.8 % of southern whites owning one or more slaves, however, around 30% for free blacks owned slaves).
In the rare instances when the ownership of slaves by free Negroes is acknowledged in the history books, justiJcation centers on the claim that black slave masters were simply individuals who purchased the freedom of a spouse or child from a white slaveholder and had been unable to legally manumit them. Although this did indeed happen at times, it is a misrepresentation of the majority of instances, one which is debunked by records of the period on blacks who owned slaves. These include individuals such as Justus Angel and Mistress L. Horry, of Colleton District, South Carolina, who each owned 84 slaves in 1830. In fact, in 1830 a fourth of the free Negro slave masters in South Carolina owned 10 or more slaves; eight owning 30 or more.

What Killed The Dinosaurs - Full Documentary
Sixty-five million years ago the last of the non-avian dinosaurs went extinct. So too did the giant mosasaurs and plesiosaurs in the seas and the pterosaurs in the skies. Plankton, the base of the ocean food chain, took a hard hit. Many families of brachiopods and sea sponges disappeared. The remaining hard-shelled ammonites vanished. Shark diversity shriveled. Most vegetation withered. In all, more than half of the world's species were obliterated.
What caused this mass extinction that marks the end of the Cretaceous and the beginning of the Paleogene? Scientists have yet to find an answer. The one that does must explain why these animals died while most mammals, turtles, crocodiles, salamanders, and frogs survived. Birds escaped. So did snails, bivalves, sea stars (starfish), and sea urchins. Even hardy plants able to weather climate extremes fared OK.
Scientists tend to huddle around one of two hypotheses that may explain the Cretaceous extinction: an extraterrestrial impact, such as an asteroid or comet, or a massive bout of volcanism. Either scenario would have choked the skies with debris that starved the Earth of the sun's energy, throwing a wrench in photosynthesis and sending destruction up and down the food chain. Once the dust settled, greenhouse gases locked in the atmosphere would have caused the temperature to soar, a swift climate swing to topple much of the life that survived the prolonged darkness.
Asteroid or Volcanoes?
The extraterrestrial impact theory stems from the discovery that a layer of rock dated precisely to the extinction event is rich in the metal iridium. This layer is found all over the world, on land and in the oceans. Iridium is rare on Earth but it's found in meteorites at the same concentration as in this layer. This led scientists to postulate that the iridium was scattered worldwide when a comet or asteroid struck somewhere on Earth and then vaporized. A 110-mile-wide (180-kilometer-wide) crater carved out of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, called Chicxulub, has since been found and dated to 65 million years ago. Many scientists believe the fallout from the impact killed the dinosaurs.
But Earth's core is also rich in iridium, and the core is the source of magma that some scientists say spewed out in vast, floodlike flows that piled up more than 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) thick over 1 million square miles (2.6 million square kilometers) of India. This bout of volcanism has also been dated to about 65 million years ago and would have spread the iridium around the world, along with sunlight-blocking dust and soot and greenhouse gases.
Both hypotheses have merit. Some scientists think both may have contributed to the extinction, and others suggest the real cause was a more gradual shift in climate and changing sea levels. Regardless of what caused the extinction, it marked the end of Tyrannosaurus rex's reign of terror and opened the door for mammals to rapidly diversify and evolve into newly opened niches.

World's First Successful Fusion Ignition Test ~ Fusion Power On It's Way
Scientists announce first nuclear fusion ignition. Why is it a milestone?
On Dec. 5, 2022, a team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s National Ignition Facility conducted the first controlled fusion experiment in history to achieve fusion ignition. Also known as scientific energy breakeven, the experiment produced more energy from fusion than the laser energy used to drive it. The achievement is a major scientific breakthrough that was decades in the making, and will provide unprecedented capability to support the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Stockpile Stewardship Program and provide invaluable insights into the prospects of clean fusion energy.
Nuclear fusion is a process in which atomic nuclei combine to form a heavier nucleus, releasing a large amount of energy in the process, according to Einstein’s famous equation, E=mc^2.
Fusion ignition means the fusion procedure produced more energy than it consumed. From an input of 2.05 megajoules, it released over 50 per cent energy - 3.15 megajoules.
What is Nuclear fusion?
Nuclear fusion is a process in which atomic nuclei combine to form a heavier nucleus, releasing a large amount of energy in the process. This energy is released because of the conversion of a small amount of mass into energy, according to Einstein’s famous equation, E=mc^2.
What is Nuclear fission?
Nuclear fusion and nuclear fission are two different types of nuclear reactions that release energy.
In a fission reaction, the nucleus of an atom is bombarded with a neutron, which causes it to split into two or more smaller nuclei. This releases a large amount of energy, which can be harnessed for practical purposes.
Key differences between nuclear fusion and nuclear fission:
1. Nuclear fusion reactions release much more energy than nuclear fission reactions. The energy released by fusion reactions is several times greater than the energy released by fission reactions, a report from the US's Office of Nuclear Energy states.
2. Nuclear fusion reactions can be fuelled by lighter elements, such as hydrogen and helium, which are abundant on Earth. Deuterium can be extracted from seawater, and tritium can be derived from naturally abundant lithium, the International Atomic Energy Agency states. Nuclear fission reactions require heavier elements, such as uranium or plutonium, which are not as abundant.
3. Nuclear fusion reactions are generally considered to be safer than nuclear fission reactions. Fusion reactions do not produce the long-lived radioactive waste that fission reactions do, and the fuel for fusion reactions is not as susceptible to being used for weapons.
4. While nuclear fusion has the potential to be a virtually limitless and clean source of energy, achieving controlled nuclear fusion on Earth has proven to be a technically challenging task. Nuclear fission, on the other hand, has been harnessed for practical purposes for decades, and is currently the primary source of nuclear energy worldwide.
Why is it hard to produce nuclear fusion?
Achieving controlled nuclear fusion on Earth has proven to be a technically challenging task for several reasons:
1. Nuclear fusion reactions occur at extremely high temperatures, typically on the order of millions of degrees Celsius. At these temperatures, the atomic nuclei are stripped of their electrons, creating a plasma, which is a state of matter similar to gas but with a much higher energy level. It is difficult to contain and control a plasma at these high temperatures, and this has been a major challenge in developing practical fusion reactions.
2. In order for a fusion reaction to occur, the plasma must be confined for a sufficient amount of time to allow the atomic nuclei to collide and fuse together. This requires the use of a magnetic field to hold the plasma in place. However, the plasma is constantly trying to expand and escape the magnetic field, and this has been a major challenge in developing practical fusion reactions.
3. Another challenge in achieving controlled nuclear fusion is that the reactions are not very efficient. Only a small fraction of the fuel used in a fusion reaction is actually consumed, and the rest is lost as heat. This makes it difficult to achieve a net gain in energy from a fusion reaction.
4. The materials used in a fusion reactor must be able to withstand the extreme temperatures and radiation of the fusion reaction. This has been a major challenge in developing practical fusion reactions, as the materials used must be able to withstand the harsh conditions without degrading over time.

Sending Mars Rocks Back To Earth - Great NASA Animation
NASA and the European Space Agency are developing plans for one of the most ambitious campaigns ever attempted in space: bringing the first samples of Mars material safely back to Earth for detailed study. The diverse set of scientifically curated samples now being collected by NASA’s Mars Perseverance rover could help scientists answer the question of whether ancient life ever arose on the Red Planet.
Bringing samples of Mars to Earth for future study would happen in several steps with multiple spacecraft, and in some ways, in a synchronized manner. This short animation features key moments of the Mars Sample Return campaign: from landing on Mars and securing the sample tubes to launching them off the surface and ferrying them back to Earth.
Animation is contributed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the European Space Agency, Goddard Space Flight Center, and Marshall Space Flight Center.

Russia Enjoying Full Grocery Stores & Cheap Gas - Sanctions Failing
What’s really going on in Russia?
What’s the truth about its war with Ukraine? Are the West's sanctions against Putin hurting the economy? Have ordinary Russians rebelled against the human cost of the war and Putin’s “mobilization” — his word for conscription?
Is it even possible to answer those questions without going to Russia itself? But the problem with that is Russia is an authoritarian regime where nosy journalists can wind up in jail — or even dead.
Rebel NewsreporterJeremy Loffredo has landed in Moscow (he had to fly through Turkey, because there no direct flights are allowed anymore).
The stakes could hardly be higher: military conflict, civilian casualties, economic sanctions and even the risk of nuclear confrontation.
But how much of what we hear is actual news — and how much is just propaganda, from one side or the other? The general public has been left with more questions than answers.
This week, Rebel News will be in Moscow to find out if ordinary Russians support Putin's war.
Are Russians afraid to speak out against Putin? Do they support the war? Are they afraid of “mobilization” — Putin's word for military conscription? And are the sanctions hurting the economy — what's it like for ordinary people?
We'll speak to Ukrainians, Russians, soldiers, veterans, professors and others to tell the other side of the story. We're notgoing in with any fixed agenda, other than to follow the factswherever they lead.
No independent media has gone to this region since the beginning of the war, partly because it’s logistically difficult and financially expensive to get there.
These obstacles effectively act as a censorship mechanism that ensures only the mainstream media are able to tell the story, until now.
It might not look like it, but there was a lot of planning behind Jeremy’s trip. We had to apply for a visa, and complete other unusual paperwork. We had to find trustworthy translators and a “fixer” to drive us around and to help smooth things over if we encounter police.
And we had to hire a Russian criminal lawyer in Moscow, just in case (God forbid) Jeremy gets arrested. We're very excited about this trip. There are a few things we can’t tell you about until it’s all over. But for the next week, please check back daily for more updates from Jeremy by visitingwww.RussianReports.com.
We’re going in with an open mind — something very few media have done regarding this conflict. We will follow the facts wherever they lead.
This is the kind of independent citizen journalism that Rebel News was built for. Because we aren’t owned by a big corporation and we take no government money, we are free to question any narrative — not just Putin’s propaganda, but the propaganda from Joe Biden, too. We’re going to ask real questions — and we’ll show you exactly what we see and hear in reply.
If you can support us, please do. Between Jeremy’s economy-class airfare and accommodations, and the interpreter and fixer, and the Moscow lawyer, we expect the total cost of Jeremy’s trip to be $11,000. If you can help us, please do.
Being independent is the only reason we can do this mission; but it also means that we need your help to pay for it.

Incredible Anatomy of the Orion Nebula ~ NASA and ESA Images
A fly-through of the Orion Nebula, based on images captured by NASA and ESA (European Space Agency) telescopes The image shows infrared light, or wavelengths that the human eye cannot see. Stars radiate little or no light in these wavelengths, so the image shows only dust.
The blue light indicates warm dust, heated by radiation from large, bright stars that can release up to one million times more light than our Sun. All that radiation breaks apart dust grains and carves out cavities, like the two blue “bubbles” in the image. Much of the remaining dust is then swept away by winds from the stars or when the stars die explosive deaths as supernovae.
Around the edge of the two cavernous regions, the dust that appears green is slightly cooler. Red indicates cold dust that reaches temperatures of about minus 440 Fahrenheit (minus 260 Celsius). A cold ribbon of dust starts near the bottom right of the image and threads throughout the nebula. Red and orange filaments like these are where dust condenses and forms new stars. Over time, these filaments may produce new giant stars that will once again reshape the region.
These images were captured by the now-retired Herschel Space Telescope, an ESA observatory, NASA’s retired Spitzer Space Telescope, and NASA’s Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), which now operates under the moniker NEOWISE. Spitzer and WISE were both managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of Caltech, in Southern California.

Why Our Universe Is Expanding - Full Science Documentary
What Might Be Speeding Up the Universe’s Expansion? - Physicists have proposed extra cosmic ingredients that could explain the faster-than-expected expansion of space. The discrepancy between how fast the universe seems to be expanding and how fast we expect it to expand is one of cosmology’s most stubbornly persistent anomalies.
Cosmologists base their expectation of the expansion rate — a rate known as the Hubble constant — on measurements of radiation emitted shortly after the Big Bang. This radiation reveals the precise ingredients of the early universe. Cosmologists plug the ingredients into their model of cosmic evolution and run the model forward to see how quickly space should be expanding today.
Yet the prediction falls short: When cosmologists observe astronomical objects such as pulsating stars and exploding supernovas, they see a universe that’s expanding faster, with a larger Hubble constant.
The discrepancy, known as the Hubble tension, has persisted even as all the measurements have grown more precise. Some astrophysicists continue to debate whether the tension might be nothing more than a measurement error. But if the discrepancy is real, it means something is missing from cosmologists’ model of the universe.
Recently, theorists have been busy imagining new cosmic ingredients that, when added to the standard model, would rev up the universe’s expected expansion rate, making it match observations.
“Discovering anomalies is the fundamental way that science makes progress,” said Avi Loeb, a cosmologist at Harvard University and one of dozens of researchers who have proposed solutions to the Hubble tension.
These are some of the top ideas for what could be speeding up cosmic expansion.
Decaying Dark Matter
The standard model of cosmology incorporates all the familiar forms of matter and radiation and their interactions. It also includes the invisible substances known as dark energy and dark matter, which together make up some 96% of the cosmos. Because so little is known about these dark ingredients, they are perhaps the obvious place to begin tampering with the standard model. “That’s what you have at your disposal to change the expansion rate of the universe,” Loeb said.
The standard model assumes that dark matter consists of slow-moving particles that don’t interact with light. But what if we also assume that dark matter is not made of just a single substance? Since many different kinds of visible particles exist — quarks, electrons and so on — there might be multiple dark particles as well.
In a paper published last summer in Physical Review D, Loeb and two collaborators considered a form of dark matter that decays into a lighter particle and a massless particle known as a dark photon. As more and more dark matter decayed over time, they reasoned, its gravitational pull would have lessened, and thus the expansion of the universe would have sped up, relieving the Hubble tension.
But making small changes like this to the standard cosmological model can have unwanted knock-on effects. “It’s very easy to come up with all kinds of slight modifications,” said Marc Kamionkowski, a theoretical physicist at Johns Hopkins University — but it’s hard to do so, he said, without ruining the model’s perfect fit with a wealth of other astronomical observations.
By varying the decay rate and the amount of dark matter that is lost in each decay, Loeb and colleagues selected a model of decaying dark matter that they say still agrees with other astronomical observations. “If you add this ingredient to the standard model of cosmology, everything holds together,” Loeb said.
Yet he remains dissatisfied with the decaying dark matter idea, in part because it introduces two new uncertain quantities into the equations.
“In this case, you add two free parameters in order to resolve one discrepancy — and I’m uneasy about that,” he said, comparing decaying dark matter to the epicycles in Ptolemy’s Earth-centric model of the universe. “I would rather have two discrepancies explained by one parameter.”
Modified Gravity
In the standard model of cosmology, all known forms of matter and radiation, plus dark matter and dark energy, are fed into Albert Einstein’s theory of gravity, and Einstein’s equations indicate how space expands as a result. This means that, besides changing or adding cosmic ingredients to the model, there’s another way physicists can reconcile it with the observed cosmic expansion rate: “You can imagine that Einstein’s equations are not correct,” Loeb said.
William Barker, a doctoral student at the University of Cambridge, was searching for a theory of “modified gravity” last summer when he stumbled across a way to resolve the Hubble tension. Barker found a modified-gravity model that was “capable of behaving as if there were extra radiation in the early universe,” he said; the radiation pressure would have increased the cosmic expansion rate.

What If We Had No Moon? ...Humans Would Not Exist - Full Documentary
The moon holds a significant relationship with the Earth: if there were no moon, our daily lives as humans would significantly change. The first and most obvious change would be during the nighttime. Nights would be unbelievably darker, as the moon provides light to the Earth during the night hours by reflecting light from the sun. Scientists suggest that without human-made lighting, we would not be able to see the hands in front of our face without the moon during the nighttime. However, not only would nights be darker, but our days would change as well.
Just as the Earth exerts a gravitational pull, the moon also exerts a gravitational pull on the Earth. The moon pulls on the Earth and slows down the Earth’s rotation. The moon’s pull creates a bulge near the Earth’s equator, which means there is a lower level of water at the poles.
The Moon’s gravity causes the oceans on our planet to rise and fall. As the water moves, there is slight friction between the moving water and the spinning Earth. This friction causes the Earth’s rotation to slow slightly. If there was no moon, then the water might spread across the planet equally and reduce the amount of friction.
This means that the earth would not slow, which then means that the hours of our days would change. Suddenly, without the moon, our days would last between 6 and 12 hours, rather than the 24 hours we experience now. If our days became this short, then we would have significantly more days in our calendar year. Instead of 365 days in a year, we would have over a thousand.
Since the moon affects the altitude and movement of Earth’s water, our ocean tides would shrink. High tide occurs where the ocean bulges toward the moon, or where the moon pulls the ocean towards it. On the opposite side of our planet, the ocean bulges away from the moon, creating another high tide. The low tides occur on either side of the bulges. Remember that the Earth is rotating, so high tide becomes low tide as the Earth turns.
Scientists suggest that without the moon, tides would be 1/3 of the size they are now. High tides would be much smaller than they are now, and low tides would be even lower. This is because the sun would be influencing the tides, not the moon; however, the sun has a weaker pull, which would decrease the tides.
The change in the Earth’s rotational speed and a change in the Earth’s tilt would also affect the Earth’s weather patterns. If the moon slows down the Earth’s rotation, then the moon also affects the wind and wind speeds on our planet. Without the moon, we would see an increase in wind speeds. Winds could become much faster and much stronger without the moon.
Additionally, we might see a change entirely in seasons. The moon affects the angle of the Earth’s tilt. Currently, the Earth sits at a 23.5-degree tilt. This means our planet leans slightly to one side as it sits in space. The tilt creates what we know as seasons and changing weather. Without the pull of the moon, this tilt would change. Either the tilt would become extreme, leading to extreme and severe seasons, or the tilt would decrease, and we would see almost no seasons at all.
The moon influences life as we know it on Earth. It influences our oceans, weather, and the hours in our days. Without the moon, tides would fall, nights would be darker, seasons would change, and the length of our days would alter.

Best & Worst Planets For Human Colonization In Our Solar System - Full Documentary
The Solar System’s five most livable places - Earth might need a backup plan. Elon Musk certainly thinks so, and SpaceX relentlessly pursues its goal of colonizing Mars...The good: Mars is the obvious choice. It is close enough for humans to travel to with existing propulsion technologies within about six to nine months. The planet also has soil, surface ice at the poles, and liquid water below ground at lower latitudes. There is enough sunshine to provide solar power. The thin Martian atmosphere provides a modicum of protection from cosmic and solar radiation. All of the above factors suggest that humans could build a somewhat sustainable colony over time on Mars, although it would largely be an indoors existence.
The bad: There is so little atmosphere that it might as well not exist. About 19km above the Earth, pilots reach the Armstrong limit, where water boils at the temperature of the human body, and the atmosphere is about 6 percent that of Earth's surface. The Martian atmosphere is about one-tenth the value of the Armstrong limit. An exposed human on the surface would die within a few dozen seconds. The recent discovery that solar wind has stripped the Martian atmosphere away over billions of years has also dealt a blow to hopes that the world might be terraformed by releasing carbon dioxide trapped in Martian rocks.
The Moon
The good: Proximity. Humans can get to the Moon within a few days, making travel and resupply by far the easiest of any off-world location. Scientists also believe that ample amounts of water ice exist at the lunar poles, providing a hefty source of drinking water, radiation shielding, and rocket propellant. The moon's surface contains valuable minerals, such as silicon, which could be used to make solar cells, and Helium-3, which might be a good source of energy. It is also plausible that large lava tubes exist just beneath the Moon's surface, which could be large enough for human cities.
The bad: The Moon has no atmosphere, of course, making surface activities hazardous and leaving astronauts vulnerable to radiation. The Apollo astronauts, too, found the Moon's dusty surface was difficult to contend with when they brought the dust back into their spacecraft.
Titan
The good: Energy, and lots of it. The great lakes of Saturn's moon Titan are filled mostly with pure methane, providing a near limitless supply of power for human activities. The surface pressure is about 1.4 times that of Earth, too, which means it is one of the few places in the Solar System where humans wouldn't need a pressure suit (aside from an air mask) to walk outside. The nitrogen, methane, and ammonia in Titan's atmosphere could be used as fertilizer to cultivate crops in greenhouses, and there may also be subsurface water. The thick atmosphere would provide good radiation shielding.
The bad: Temperature and distance. The surface of Titan is about -180 degrees Celsius (so no pressure suit, but LOTS of layers of warm clothing). And since this moon orbits Saturn, it is the farthest of any of these options, requiring the better part of a decade for humans to reach with current propulsion systems.
Venus
The good: An atmosphere! We're not talking about the surface of the planet, where the crushing atmospheric pressure is equivalent to about 900 meters below the surface of Earth's oceans, and the temperature is a boiling 462 degrees Celsius, on average. We’re talking about 50km above the surface, where the atmospheric pressure is equivalent to that on Earth and temperatures range from 0 degrees to 50 degrees Celsius. Moreover, the remaining Venusian atmosphere provides radiation shielding. A human might sun oneself on an open-air deck wearing only a breathing mask. NASA has already done some preliminary work studying a floating airship concept with its Project HAVOC.
The bad: When it rains, it rains sulfuric acid. This would damage solar panels and the airships themselves, not to mention any humans caught unawares out in it. The other problem is resupply of water or metals.
Callisto
The good: Callisto is not as famous as some of the Jovian moons, such as Europa, but it probably would be the best one to live on. Comparable in size to Mercury, it is the most distant from Jupiter of the planet's four large moons, which means it receives less radiation from the gas giant. Spacecraft have observed bright patches of ice on the moon's rocky surface, and deeper inside the planet there’s probably a salty ocean that is 50 to 200km deep.
The bad: Callisto is still several years of travel from Earth. The moon has only a tenuous atmosphere, so it would not be unlike living on the surface of Earth's own Moon. And while the radiation levels are lower than Jupiter's other moons, they are still higher than Titan and some of the other alternatives. Solar panels would be of limited use for colonists as Callisto receives only about 1/25th of the solar energy that Earth's Moon does.
