Rescue at the Water's Edge: The Tale of Four Puppies
A woman had just arrived at Lake Thurmond in South Carolina to do some kayaking when she noticed something unusual. She kayaked there all the time, but that day something was different. As she headed down to the water, she saw something moving — and realized there was a pile of hairless The babies turned out to be puppies who were missing most of their fur. They were all pretty shy as their rescuer approached them, but she knew that no matter what, she had to get them to safety.
The puppies soon arrived in the care of Final Victory Animal Rescue, and no one there could believe their story.
All four puppies were very emaciated and covered in demodex mange,” Leslie Rider Osmanski, medical manager and foster coordinator at Final Victory Animal Rescue, told The Dodo. “Their demodex mange was so severe that they were almost completely hairless.”
The rescue nicknamed the little family “the waters edge puppies” and quickly went about settling them in. They received medicated baths and began warming up to their rescuers as soon as they started feeling a little better. The puppies were aptly named Kayak, Canoe, Paddle Board and Raft. No one has any idea how they ended up on the edge of the lake in the first place, but everyone at the rescue is so grateful to the kayaker for dropping everything to save them.
The boy puppies, Paddle Board and Raft, both already have adopters lined up for when they’re fully healed. The girls, Kayak and Canoe, are still available and hoping to be claimed by their forever families very soon.

Mastering Steak Selection:A Connoisseurs Guide
Flat iron steak is gaining favour – it’s particularly good when marinated. A New York steak (also known as the Kansas City steak) is well-marbled and succulent, whereas hanger steak (also known as onglet) is inexpensive and tasty. Skirt steak (not to be confused with hanger) is often used for fajitas and is best cooked either hot and fast or low and slow. Rib-eye is the hands-down favourite: well-marbled with a good depth of flavour, it’s perfect for grilling and barbecuing. Entrecôte steak is very similar – it’s effectively a rib-eye cut more thinly.

ORANGUTANS SELF- HEALING:A MEDICAL MARVEL
Orangutan heals face wound using medicinal plant in Indonesia in documented first
A Sumatran orangutan was seen using a medicinal plant to heal a facial wound at an Indonesian research site in a first step for non-humankind.
The male primate applied a paste made from the poultice plant on his cheek, eventually closing the large wound up, according to research published Thursday at the Scientific Reports journal. A month later, he full recovered in what the paper's authors said was the first documented case of an animal healing itself with a plant.
In June 2022, researchers observed the ape named Rakus that sustained the facial wound at the Suaq Balimbing research site in Gunung Leuser National Park. Three days later, they saw him chew on liana leaves that he ripped off and then repeatedly applied the resulting juice onto his injury for seven minutes, completely covering it. He then continued to feed on the plant for another 30 minutes.

Scientists concluded that Rakus knew the process would heal him because orangutans rarely eat poultice, because of the precise placement of the plant on the wound and the amount of time it took.
"They are our closest relatives and this again points towards the similarities we share with them. We are more similar than we are different," biologist and lead author Isabella Laumer told BBC. "I think in the next few years we will discover even more behaviors and more abilities that are very human-like."

Rakus sustained wound fighting other orangutans
Researchers said they have never observed anything like this in their 21 years of observing the creatures. However they acknowledged that could be due to the fact that they rarely encounter injured orangutans at Suaq.
Rakus received the facial injury during physical altercations with other flanged males, researchers suspect.
Having underwent his secondary sexual development around this time, he tried to establish himself as the dominant male orangutan in the area, according to behavioral data collected.

The Six - Legged Gazelle:A Rare Genetic Mavel
A rare six-legged mountain gazelle has been spotted in Israel. The male gazelle has an extra pair of legs growing from its back, but wildlife experts say it seems to be managing fine with the extra appendages.
The discovery was made by an Israeli army reservist who, in late March, spotted and then sent a photo of the bizarre looking creature to the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel, or SPNI, an environmental nonprofit organization, after noticing that it had "something strange on its back," according to the group.
A mountain gazelle with a pair of extra legs growing from its back, due to a genetic abnormality, is seen in a photo taken by conservationist Amir Balaban of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) and shared with media on April 8, 2024.
AMIR BALABAN/SPNI
Amir Balaban, a conservationist for SPNI, said in a news release shared with CBS News that the six-legged gazelle had "survived a complex litter and survived as a young individual, dealt with many predators that endanger young fawns, matured single and as an adult managed to lead an impressive life in the Nahal HaBasor reserve."
The nature reserve sits in Israel's southern Negev desert, just a few miles from the war-torn Gaza Strip. SPNI called it "one of the most important remaining strongholds for the Israeli gazelle in the western Negev, especially during the recent war."
Puppy with 2 tails, 6 legs born during record-breaking storm in Oklahoma
"Contrary to expectations, the gazelle is healthy, strong, and has three female gazelles and a fawn from the previous fall. He has been seen hosting the females in the fields and the extra legs on his back pose no challenge to him," Balaban said.

"Royal Hooves Unleashed: Chaos in London as Runaway Horses Leave 4 Injured"
"All of the horses have now been recovered and returned to camp," a British Army spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE
Four people have been injured after multiple horses belonging to the Household Cavalry got loose during a "routine exercise" on the morning of April 24
The animals, stabled in Hyde Park Barracks, Knightsbridge, have now been returned and are being treated following the incident that occurred at approximately 8:25 a.m. local time, per theBBC.
“A number of military working horses became loose during routine exercise this morning. All of the horses have now been recovered and returned to camp," a spokesperson for the British Army said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
“A number of personnel and horses have been injured and are receiving the appropriate medical attention,” they added.
The Household Cavalry is the most senior regiment in the British Army and regularly takes part in major state occasions, such as the coronation ofKing Charlesand the funeral ofQueen Elizabeth.
The London Ambulance Service confirmed to PEOPLE that four people had been taken to hospital after receiving treatment at the three locations. The BBC reported that this happened within 10 minutes of paramedics being called to Buckingham Palace Road, Belgrave Square, and the junction between Chancery Lane and Fleet Street.
PEOPLE understands six soldiers and seven horses from the Life Guards were exercising in the upmarket Belgravia neighborhood of London when some of the horses got spooked by the sound of some construction concrete hitting the floor.
Five horses got loose, with four soldiers being dismounted and three injured. The injured soldiers are still being assessed in the hospital, but none of the conditions are life-threatening.
The Metropolitan Police didn't immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE.
A cab driver named Robbie recalled seeing one of the horses covered in blood. "I was just outside Buckingham Palace on the Mall and heard loads of galloping and looked behind and there were about three or four horses," he toldBBC Radio London.

Unraveling the Columbia University Protests;A Close Look!
Days after Columbia University’s president told Congress that she would work to tamp down antisemitism, some pro-Palestinian demonstrations on and around campus veered into the harassment of Jewish students, drawing the attention of the police and the concern of a number of Jewish students.
Over the weekend, the student-led demonstrations on campus attracted separate, more agitated protests by demonstrators who seemed to be unaffiliated with the university just outside Columbia’s gated campus in Upper Manhattan, which was closed to the public because of the protests.

The verbal attacks left a number of the 5,000 Jewish students at Columbia fearful for their safety on the campus and its vicinity, and even drew condemnation from the White House andMayor Eric Adamsof New York City.
“While every American has the right to peaceful protest, calls for violence and physical intimidation targeting Jewish students and the Jewish community are blatantly antisemitic, unconscionable and dangerous,” Andrew Bates, a spokesman for the White House, said in a statement.

Someone screamed 'don't do it' before man set himself on fire - BBC reporter
A man has set himself on fire outside the court in Manhattan where former President Donald Trump's hush-money trial is being held.
The man doused himself in a liquid before throwing conspiracy-theory pamphlets into the air, police said.
His motive is unknown and police responded to the scene.
Mr Trump was in the building to attend jury selection, where he has had a security detail, but the former president left during the incident.
Emergency officials said that court security had not been breached in the incident. The case, which had just completed alternate jury selection, resumed later in the afternoon. Opening statements are expected to begin on Monday.
In a news conference, investigators said they had received a 911 emergency call at around 13:30 local time (18:30 BMT) telling them that a man had lit himself on fire.
