Rescued crow speaks to his family
This crow is one of four crows (The Freds) who were rescued when their nest fell from a tree. A veterinarian and her family raised the crows and they were released into the wild. They were accepted by a family of wild crows and still come back to visit, four years later. At least two will visit the backyard feeder and occasionally say "hello". This year, they have also started saying "mom" very clearly. They were not intentionally taught to say hello or mom. These birds are incredibly intelligent!

Scuba diver encounters incredibly bizarre underwater animal
The ocean is full of beautiful and mysterious creatures. Some are stunning in their coloring and markings, others are sleek and graceful. Some appear to be awkward and clumsy and others look fearsome. But almost all of them are fascinating and mysterious in one way or another. They are creatures that many people never encounter and would never believe existed unless they saw them or at least saw a picture or video of them.
This beaded sea cucumber is one of those mysterious and mystifying animals. Returning from deeper waters, this scuba diver was exploring the shallows near shore when he came upon this one stretched out and feeding. He had never seen one of these before and he initially thought it was a long piece of cloth that had sunk to the ocean floor. He touched it with the intention of lifting a piece of litter from the sand to dispose of it properly. But he found it sticky to the touch and it moved, making him realize that it was alive. It stretched across the sand for more than two meters (6 feet) and its head resembled an alien creature with 15 feathery tentacles. These tentacles opened up and then closed toward the center of the head repeatedly, making it appear that the animal was filtering something edible out of the water and gathering it in a mouth of some sort. It continuously stretched these feathery arms outwards as it wriggled forward along the ocean floor. It bumped into plants and coral as it moved, suggesting that it had no sight or ability to detect what was in front of it other than by feel.
Beaded sea cucumbers actually gather sand and debris from the ocean bottom, or matter this stirred up near the bottom. It sifts the debris and draws it into its mouth. Organic matter is digested and sand is passed through and out.
There are actually several species of beaded sea cucumber. They differ greatly in markings and size, but all feed and move in a similar fashion. Rhythmic muscular contraction (peristalsis) enables this creature to move.
Found in the water near the shore of Vava'u Island in Tonga (near Fiji), this sea cucumber was very fascinating to watch. They are more active in the evening and during the night, often hiding under coral during the day.

Friendly-looking fish capable of killing 30 grown men
Pufferfish are all the fish that are in the family Tetraodontidae. That’s about 120 species in 19 different genera. They can be found in tropical waters all over the world, in both saltwater habitats, such as the Pacific Ocean and the Red Sea, and freshwater habitats such as the Mekong River, the Amazon River and estuaries.
This puffer fish is the second most venomous vertebrate on the planet. Slow moving, it defends itself with rapid inflation and spines. If that isn't enough, its skin contains a powerful toxin.
Ingestion of this fish would lead to a predator's certain death. One puffer fish contains enough toxin to kill up to 30 grown men. It is a welcome sight for divers looking for a photograph, but they are wise to keep a respectful distance.

Sunken camera catches ghostly images
Curious about what it looked like at the bottom of the lake at the family cottage, Kristy convinced her husband Dave to send his GoPro down go get some video. The two dangled the camera on a float and let it drift. What they did not expect was the eerie, ghostly effect or footage that included large bass approaching the camera for a closer look. There is obviously a lot more going on beneath the waves than we can see.

What happens next shocks cyclist... Literally!
A cyclist stops to take a break and a herd of cows come over to see what he is doing. He can't resist their pleading looks and he feeds them some grass but forgets about the electric fence. He leans too close and gets a jolt in his armpit. These cows proved to be a little smarter than this cyclist. It's an unforgettable experience!

Cow with itchy face seeks help from her human friend
Fiona is a wonderful cow with a beautiful disposition. She has been treated with kindness and love and she responds very well to the farmers who care for her and also to her human friend who comes to visit occasionally. Dave has spent time in the meadow, helping the farmers with the fences and other tasks. He has been called to assist with cows delivering their calves and he was right there when Fiona's first baby, "Hope" took her first wobbly steps.
Dave has also been asked to babysit the cows when the farmers have gone away, and Dave has enjoyed lots of time wandering the gorgeous, green meadows, checking on the herd. The cows here approach their human friends for a pat on the head and they are given handfuls of corn on occasion.
Dave was watching Fiona as she rubbed her face and eyes on a patch of ground, looking for relief from the itch. Willing to lend a hand, Dave approached her and put out his hand. She caught on immediately and bobbed her head up and down as if to tell him where to scratch.

Retired officer engages with scammers to show you their scheme
Scams and frauds are nothing new, but the internet has made it easier for criminals to reach out from anywhere in the world in an attempt to obtain your money or your personal data. And with social media becoming more widely used, the information that scammers need to trick innocent people is more readily available. In 2020, fraud attempts and financial losses climbed dramatically.
Dave is a retired police officer who has had a lot of experience with scams and their victims. He has also spoken directly with hundreds of scammers in an attempt to understand what they do, why they do it, and how the public can avoid falling victim to the frauds.
All scammers are after your money, or your personal data to get at your money, but their ploys and techniques are extremely varied. They are often imaginative and sophisticated enough to be convincing. They can work from anywhere in the world, reaching out to potential victims by phone, email, or social media.
Dave received a call from a number disguised as local. When he answered, a voice with an ominous message told him that he was in trouble unless he spoke with a government agent about his social insurance number and bank account. When he pressed 1 to be connected, he was asked for a name to confirm his identity. The caller pretended to be with the investigations department of Service Canada. As if he had a file in front of him, he pretended to confirm the fake information that Dave provided. Masquerading as "Robert Spencer", Dave provided a postal code from another city and a number for the police in that area. The agent on the line said that he had detected all manner of horrific crimes in relation to ten bank accounts in the name of Robert Spencer. Professing his innocence, "Robert" convinced the agent that he was not connected with the crimes. The agent pretended that he would speak with police on Robert's behalf to help him avoid the charges.
The agent pretended to speak with an officer from the local police and then the fake police officer also spoke with "Robert". Together, they explained an elaborate scheme in which Robert's bank account was in jeopardy and his money needed to be moved to a secure government account. The officers would protect Robert's money and return it to him the following day.
Obviously, the funds would be deposited as instructed and "Robert" would never see them or hear from the officers again. But somebody who believed these scammers could easily be tricked into thinking that they were avoiding a scam, or legal proceedings, by following the instructions. These schemers prey on the naïve. They victimize those who are afraid of being in trouble or afraid of being defrauded. The elderly and those with less understanding of technology and the internet make easy targets.
Dave will tell you that engaging with these scammers is never advised. Seemingly innocent conversations can provide them with pieces of information that they collect and share. One correct piece of data, even a first name or your correct city, can be used with your phone number to find you on social media and gather even more information. Dave speaks with these scammers to get to the heart of their technique and also to demonstrate how persistent and convincing they might be. While it might be entertaining to try and scam them back, it is usually pointless and risky.
Dave's advice is to never provide or confirm a single piece of information over the phone. If the call seems real, ask for a name and then politely hang up. Use a different phone to call the agency directly and verify the caller's identity. Your bank or law enforcement will applaud you for your good sense and caution. Always look up the number yourself instead of dialing one provided by the caller. Occasionally, scammers will hijack your phone and your verification call to any number will be rerouted to them without you knowing it was done.
Remember that anyone can obtain your mobile or home number easily and finding your name and address is not difficult after that.
If you understand the scam and you refuse to provide any information or follow any instructions, you will be less likely to ever be the victim of one of these scams.
Police will never call somebody on the phone to threaten arrest. Your bank will never call and ask you to divulge information. And government agencies will not call you to help you secure your funds from scammers.
Exercise a little caution and don't be fooled!

Friendly goose found on random country road
This Canada goose was standing at the side of the road near a stream in the middle of nowhere. He seemed very interested in the car as this cameraman drove past. He backed up the car and the goose walked over to look in the open window. He waited patiently while our driver got out some corn and set up the GoPro. The cameraman actually sat with the goose and munched corn behind the camera, only a foot or two away from the friendly goose, proving that even the animals in Canada are friendly!

Affectionate Goat Loves Being Pet Like A Puppy
Hamish's Farm in Keene' Ontario is home to may very interesting animals. Among the most interesting is Violet, a 4 month old Lamanche goat who seems to believe that she is a puppy. Since she was born, she has followed Hamish and his mother, Gertrude around the farm wherever they go. She will wander up to them, or even visitors, looking for affection and attention. She gently places her head against them, begging to be scratched and rubbed, just like a dog would.
Violet is very smart and she quickly figures out everything on the farm, such as how to get food that she is not supposed to get into. But, with an adorable face like that, how can anyone ever be annoyed with Violet?
Hamish's Farm burned down in November 2016. He and his mother are rebuilding and life on the farm is slowly returning to normal. Barn construction will begin very soon!
Isn't this affectionate goat just adorable? Who knew that they liked to be pet like a puppy does! It must be hard to rebuild after something so devastating happened to their farm. It just goes to show you that once you power through the difficult times in your life, life tends to get a lot better!
Most people do not have the privilege of having their very own goat to cuddle with. They could always get some adorable animal plush's from Amazon to satisfy their cute and cuddly needs!

Baby monkey with extreme deformities manages well despite his challenges
India is a country full of incredible beauty, mixed with severe hardship. It is described as "the land of contrasts" because of the extreme differences in advantages from one area to another and the fact that the line between each is often very fine. This is true for the people and it is also true for the animals here, as we see in the case of these wild monkeys.
Monkeys in India inhabit the forests and jungles, and also the cities, particularly on the edges where they are free to come and go easily between wilderness and populated areas. Attracted to the markets and restaurant areas where food can be found, they boldly walk down streets and climb buildings, often venturing very close to people. Many people here feed the monkeys, out of kindness, and the monkeys have grown accustomed to being in close proximity with humans. These monkeys come daily to this section of Agra and they feast on bananas and other fruit that is tossed their way.
But one particular monkey caught the eye of these Canadian tourists with the video camera. Fascinated by the sight of these clever animals eating bananas, they filmed and took pictures. But as they did so, they noticed that one of the monkeys had a very severe problem with all of its limbs. The hind limbs were misshapen and short, with deformed feet that made walking and climbing difficult. Its hands did not have the five digits that all the other monkeys have. Instead, it had two larger digits that it used awkwardly in an attempt to manage the banana that it was eating.
The baby monkey seemed to be well cared for by its mother and the other monkeys allowed it to eat in peace. Often, animals can be cruel to those with any weakness, and competition for food can mean that the weak die of starvation while the others eat their share. Despite the obvious deformities, this little monkey dealt with the difficulty like a champion.

Scuba Divers In Danger When Large Sharks Circle Them
Reef Sharks are intimidating beasts that grow to ten feet in length and weigh up to 350 pounds. They patrol the reef, often in packs, almost always looking for food. They can be solitary hunters on occasion but when one shows up it's more common to see a second, third, or even more close behind. They are primarily scavengers and no threat to people who treat them with caution and respect, but their arrival still causes any scuba diver to become wary. Despite their general lack of interest in attacking or biting people, they still have a huge mouth full of teeth and a stare so intense that even seasoned divers feel like they at their mercy.
These young divers entering the water in Belize were expecting a routine cruise over the reef. They took along a couple of spears to deal with Lionfish, an invasive species that has no natural predators in these waters, yet they eat so many small fish that they threaten the overall health of the reef. Lionfish are routinely fed to Moray Eels, Nurse Sharks and Groupers in an attempt to encourage predation on the species but it is considered very very unwise to spear Lionfish in the presence of apex predators like Reef Sharks. Encouraging the feeding response in such cases would greatly increase the risk of aggression.
These Reef Sharks, like most large ocean creatures are very curious and they appear in the distance at the start of this dive, circling and investigating the possibility of food. With a sense of smell keen enough to detect a wounded fish from a great distance, the sharks know they can swoop in and snatch a fish right off the spear.
The divers found that the reef sharks appeared in greater numbers at the end of the dive, with at least six full grown sharks circling them closely. Divers must complete a three minute safety stop, hovering at 20 feet from the surface before they ascend to the boat. It is at this time that a diver is most vulnerable and the presence of these sharks below them was a thrilling, but hair raising experience. Reef Sharks are a very new sight on the reef in the area of San Pedro, Belize. They have not appeared here until the past three to four years.

Giant barracuda curiously investigates diver's camera
An enormous barracuda shows no fear as it drifts among divers and stares right into the lens of this GoPro camera. Growing to a length of six feet, these fearsome fish have nothing to be afraid of. This one gives a glimpse of the huge teeth that make these fish one of the most incredible predators on the reef. They are known for attacking fish almost their own size, biting them in half in the process. At full size, the barracuda will often approach divers or follow them out of curiosity. The shiny GoPro seems to catch the eye of this one!

Trusting mother cow allows calf with disability to be given a sponge bath
JuJube is a wonderful little calf with some troubles. He was born with weakness in his legs that made it nearly impossible for him to get up and walk. He was otherwise healthy and the mother had lots of milk for him. She tried to position herself so that he could nurse, but it wasn't going to work unless he could get to his feet. She nudged him and licked him, bellowing encouragement. JuJube tried to stand, but he just wasn't able.
Farmer Dave saw that neither of them was ready to give up and he decided that he would not give up either. He bottle fed JuJube and helped him stand long enough to nurse. Bernise did her part and seemed to understand that the farmer was helping them. As this continued, she became less protective and she allowed Dave to do his work to make life easier for both of them.
A veterinarian was called and they believed that the problem was a selenium deficiency, known as "white muscle disease". They gave JuJube vitamin and selenium supplements by injection. They also wondered if it was a joint problem that made walking painful. They began a series of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories.
The farmer and an assistant took turns helping JuJube to his feet several times each day. Bernise eagerly stood in position to let him nurse and JuJube gained strength each day. But a calf who lies down is difficult to clean and Bernise could not keep her baby clean enough. The farm hand gave JuJube daily sponge baths in order to help him stay healthy. Surprisingly, Bernise had enough trust to allow this unusual task to be done. Normally, a mother cow will not let humans handle newborns, but Bernise has been well treated on this wonderful farm and she has come to trust those who care for her.
As time went on, JuJube began gettung up on his own and he began following Bernise around the pasture. It looks like JuJube will be okay, thanks to a trusting mother and a farmer who cared enough to never give up.

Calf being born shows the miracle of birth on the farm
Eunice is a very dedicated mother cow. She has chosen a spot in the sun to give birth on this beautiful farm in Ontario, Canada. She knows that her calf is on the way and she settles down in the meadow at the edge of the herd. Often, a cow will pick a secluded spot to have her calf so that she can make sure it isn't stepped on and that she has some privacy to nurse and look after the new baby when it arrives.
But Eunice seems unconcerned with the rest of the herd being close. They are curious, but respectful as she begins to deliver her baby.
A seasoned mother, Eunice doesn't need much time from when her water breaks to the time that she pushes out her baby. Gladys slides smoothly out onto the grass and Eunice springs to her feet to check on her. A mother cow relies on instincts that tell her to quickly eat the afterbirth and lick the calf clean. This serves several purposes. Cleaning the calf and the area will prevent predators from smelling blood and the scent of a birth, signalling that a vulnerable baby has just arrived. The licking also helps stimulate the calf and make it more alert and ready to walk. A calf must be on its feet as soon as possible to nurse and to move with her mother to avoid any threats. The rest of the cows will also protect the young, but it's only possible if the calf is able to get its legs under it.
Gladys is quick to try getting up and she is adorably clumsy in her first attempts at standing. Eunice waits patiently, encouraging her with soft moos and gentle nudges and licks. Eventually, Gladys finds the milk supply and begins to nurse. She will receive the colostrum that builds her immune system in this first milk. It's crucial to the calf's future health.
The licking and early nursing will also solidify the bond between mother and calf, allowing them to find each other by voice and by smell, as much as by sight. Gladys will stay close to her mother in the early days and will gradually gain independence as she wanders farther away when she is strong enough to run quickly.
Gladys and Eunice could not have picked a better place to live. They will wander over lush green meadows, drink from ponds full of fresh water, and roam through a forested area. It is an ethical farm where calves are not separated from their mothers. The farmers do not produce veal or dairy. Both of these cows will enjoy a long life that will be as close as possible to what nature intended for such gentle creatures.
For those who commit to a vegetarian lifestyle, their choice is commendable. Those who chose to eat meat can source their food from ethical farms such as this one so that they are not contributing to factory farming. Supporting the farmers who do things right will mean a life free of the cruelty and suffering associated with larger, profit-driven operations.

Great Dane swings small dog like a carnival thrill ride
Bandit is a one year old Great Dane with a fun-loving personality. He adores his miniature buddy, Lil Bear, and he plays with him in a very comical way. The two best friends share a rope toy that allows them to play tug-of-war and other games. But the unique part is that when one dog is tiny, and the other is the size of a pony, tug-of-war becomes more like a thrill ride at the carnival. Bear actually lifts off and goes through the air as he hangs on for dear life. The amazing part is how much he seems to enjoy this game and how he keeps coming back for more. Bandit loves the game too, and in a very impressive way, he shows that he is well aware of his size and power, and he swings the dog with a gentleness that warms the heart. He could easily send this little dog into a full spin or let go and watch him sail across the room. At one point, Bandit carefully steps backwards, taking care not to crush Lil Bear under a massive paw.
Bandit is an amazing dog who is more than just a loyal companion and beloved family member. He is also a service dog who provides comfort and assistance to Danielle, a young lady in this family who is autistic. Danielle faces challenges, including anxiety, and Bandit is specially trained to recognize certain behaviors and distract her when needed. He also keeps her safe and helps the family find her if she manages to wander. Bandit is a very bright dog who provides Danielle with much more than the usual friendship that we hope for in an animal companion. He is dearly loved by his family.
Lil Bear is an equally loved silver Yorkie with no apparent understanding of how small he is. He seems to believe he is as big and formidable as his giant friend. In fact, Lil Bear is the leader and the boss in this household. He loves these games and he enjoys any opportunity to show that he is not afraid of things getting rough. With a bark or a snarl, Lil Bear often sends Bandit running. You can't help but admire that kind of spunk.
These two have played this game since Bandit came home at 8 weeks old. Lil Bear will often bring the pull toy to Bandit, asking for the games to begin. He enjoys the hair raising ride immensely, even though the amount of air that he gets and the distance he flies gets greater each day as Bandit grows. Perhaps the only thing that would make this interaction any funnier would be if Lil Bear could be equipped with a helmet so he could enjoy a little more air time!

Husband Discovers Wife's Very Unusual Gardening Hack
Farming has gone as far back as ancient times and the benefits humans acquire from it is beyond words. As all cultures in this world, farming has also evolved along side the quick upbringing of technology. Nowadays we can make numbers of a produce in a day, what people could once make in a year. Now taking this consideration you would think that technology would mean machines and even chemically induced growth, however what you are about to see in this video is far beyond "technology". That's right, this man's wife has it out for technology and proves that the good 'ol ways are not something to underestimate.
Kristy is a gardener with a very green thumb. All of her vegetables do incredibly well, but the tomatoes are particularly robust. Some of them even look like a cross breed with a watermelon. They grow so large that they break the vines from which they hang before they reach their peak of ripeness. Tired of finding them on the ground under a broken stem, Kristy has come up with a brilliant solution. But she did not mention this to her husband, Dave.
On a sunny day while Kristy was at work, Dave started hankering for a bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. He'd been told that the vegetables are ready for harvest and they need to be eaten. He's more than willing to do his part so he took a stroll through the tomato patch to grab a few and he got a big surprise.
Kristy had solved her tomato dilemma by hanging some of the bigger ones in her bras. She strapped them around the wire cages that support the plants and then had two tomatoes right where you would expect them. The garden hack was so clever and so hilarious that Dave went to get his camera so he could get this on video. He's not sure what Kristy will think of her unmentionables being shared with the world but he'll find out soon enough.
As Dave takes us on a little garden tour, he contemplates where this idea would even come from. Kristy might just be reading gardening magazines that are a little more progressive and daring than he once thought. Dave even sees some items in the garden that he doesn't recognize.
It's probably for the best that Dave did not venture over to the zucchini or watermelon section of the garden.
