To monitor your family's food needs, keep a pantry journal. Record how much food your family eats in a week, a month, and 6 months. THIS WILL GIVE YOU AN IDEA of what foods to start stocking first and how much. For example, Our family of 4 eats about two 1 lb bags of beans in a month. Knowing that, I will slowly buy enough beans until we have at least 12 Ibs of beans to last us 6 months. We've been slowly building our pantry for a few years.
