This parent chain is of course Ethereum, but Matic Network was designed to be blockchain agnostic, meaning any other blockchain can serve as the parent chain. 💱Matic Polygon Rebrand💱 In February 2021, Matic Network rebranded to Polygon. This marked the project’s shift in focus from providing a single scaling solution to becoming ‘Ethereum’s Internet of Blockchains’. The Matic Network is still alive and well – it has just become the first of many blockchain networks that will make up the Polygon ecosystem. More importantly, the Matic token will continue to be the token which powers not just the Matic Network, but the entire Polygon ecosystem. ⛓Polygon Explained⛓ Polygon has an architecture of its own that is divided into four layers. The first is the Ethereum layer, which all of Polygon’s layer 2 blockchains will rely on for security and consensus. The second layer is the security layer which will handle Polygon’s security as a service product. The third layer is the Polygon networks layer which handles interoperability between all blockchains created using the Polygon SDK. The fourth layer is the execution layer, which hosts on-chain and cross-chain smart contracts. 📅Polygon Updates📅 Polygon has partnered with dozens of cryptocurrency projects including The Graph, Chainlink, Atari, and Aavegotchi. The Matic token was also recently listed on Coinbase. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Polygon Adoption👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 In February, Polygon logged over 200 thousand unique users on the Matic Network. There are around 100 dApps built on the Matic network, though most of these don’t seem to have very much engagement. The largest dApp on Polygon by TVL is currently Quickswap, a Uniswap clone which currently holds over 100 million dollars in crypto. 🤑Matic Price Potential🤑 The interesting thing about the Matic token is that even though it is used for staking, it has a fixed supply of 10 billion. A substantial portion of this supply has been set aside for staking. The issue is that many of the tokens which have yet to be issued are being unlocked every 6 months, which could suppress price action in the short term. However, given Matic’s low market cap and the utility of the token combined with the uptick in usage, it is very likely that Matic could still increase by another 10x before the bull market is over. 👀Optimism vs. Polygon👀 Optimism has been in the works for well over a year and unlike other layer 2 scaling solutions, it does not have a token and was essentially with the express purpose of scaling Ethereum. Ethereum projects like Uniswap and Synthetix are already preparing to launch on Optimism, and Coinbase will support deposits and withdrawals directly from Ethereum’s Optimism layer. This will take you to a page where you can enter all the blockchain details for Polygon. 🏦How To Deposit Cryptocurrency To Polygon Metamask Wallet🏦 You cannot send any Ethereum tokens directly to the Matic wallet address you just created on Metamask You need to send these to your Ethereum wallet address on Metamask first so that they can be converted using the Matic bridge This conversion process is going to require some ETH and MATIC. What this means is that you need to have ETH and MATIC in addition to the other tokens you want to use on Polygon 🛠How To Fix Missing Cryptocurrency On Polygon Metamask Wallet🛠 If the Polygon bridge page doesn’t load, it’s because there seems to be a conflict between the Metamask wallet and Coinbase wallet browser extensions. You will have to uninstall the Coinbase wallet browser extension, but make sure you’ve saved your seed phrase before you do! 💰How To Use Aave On Polygon💰 Aave is a decentralized lending and borrowing protocol that lets you lend and borrow cryptocurrency without a bank or credit score. I happen to be pretty bullish on the Matic token, so I’m going to deposit some of my MATIC tokens as collateral to get USDC and buy even more Matic tokens In this case I’m going to deposit all but two of the MATIC tokens I have to make sure I have enough for gas fees. Now I have more USDC than I initially had that I can use to buy more MATIC tokens with! 💱How To Use Quickswap On Polygon💱 Polygon has it’s own version of Uniswap called Quickswap. Quickswap is basically a carbon copy of Uniswap with a few minor details that I won’t get into here Using Quickswap is super straight forward. Just click connect wallet on the top righthand corner, select Metamask, confirm in your wallet that you want to connect to Quickswap, and you’re all set To swap a cryptocurrency, just select the one you want to swap from and the one you want to swap to, select the amount, click approve, and then pay the miniscule gas fee in Matic tokens. Cha ching! 💸How To Withdraw Cryptocurrency From Polygon Metamask Wallet💸 Moving your crypto off Polygon is just the reverse of the process you used to get your crypto onto Polygon. During a bull run like the one we’re in now, it is normal for Bitcoin’s price to go up or down by 5 percent per day and go up or down by 10 percent or more on a weekly basis. For altcoins, it is normal for their prices to change by more than 10 percent per day, and they can easily gain or lose more than 20 percent of their value each week. 🔎What Causes Dips?🔎 This is important to know if you are trying to buy the dip, because looking at the price charts alone might not give you enough context to make the right call. The problem with identifying causes in crypto is that it is very rare that you can definitively point to a single factor. Usually there are multiple factors causing a dip, and each of these often cause overlapping chains of events that can turn into a vicious feedback loop. 👛Altcoin Dips👛 As many of you already know, altcoins are highly correlated to Bitcoin.This is important to remember during dips because no amount of bullish news can save your altcoin if Bitcoin is in freefall. Altcoins are more volatile than Bitcoin, and this means that whenever Bitcoin dips and decimates altcoins, the profits you’ll get from buying the dip will be even larger for altcoins. This is because they will rebound much more aggressively than Bitcoin once it finishes dipping and BTC dominance returns to its downtrend. 😱How Low Will The Dip Go?😱 Again, a lot of this will depend on the factors that are causing the dip, and there is no way of knowing for sure where the bottom of the dip actually is. However, there are no shortage of tools you can use to estimate how deep a dip could get, and all of these can be found on the trading terminals of your favorite cryptocurrency exchanges. If the entire crypto market is dipping, then your main area of focus should be the BTC/USD chart even if you don’t hold any BTC. Identify levels of support on the weekly timeframe to see where it could fall. 🤑How To Buy The Dip🤑 The daily timeframe typically offers the best vantage point for buying the dip. As with the weekly timeframe, the first thing to look for is visible signs of support. The way to spot these zones of support is by looking at where prices have clustered in the past, and this is often much easier to do on the daily timeframe. When you combine the EMA, Bollinger Bands, and RSI, you should get a clear picture of whether you’re at the bottom of the dip in the short term. You can double check to make sure the dip is really over by using the MACD and trading volume. As the name suggests, local tops are the highest price a crypto coin will reach in a shorter timeframe 🔎What Causes Altcoin Tops?🔎 When a cryptocurrency’s price starts to explode, there is usually some news or event that is fueling that price action. An example of such a causal factor is a listing by Binance or Coinbase The key takeaway here is that the effect these kinds of events and announcements have on the price of an altcoin are intense but short lived 🕵️‍♂‍What Causes Bitcoin Tops?🕵️‍♂‍ To cause a blow off top for Bitcoin, a lot of money is required. As far as I can tell, there are only two places this amount of money can come from: institutions and untapped markets Institutions in the United States have been itching to dip their toes in the crypto game, and the only thing stopping them is the lack of a safe and regulated way of doing so, i.e. an ETF In terms of untapped markets, China comes to mind. It has the second largest economy in the world, and cryptocurrency has technically been banned since 2017 Recently, Chinese officials called Bitcoin a QUOTE ‘investment alternative’ and noted that they are working on regulatory framework to make it possible to invest in cryptocurrencies again 👀How To Spot The Top👀 To spot a local top, the first thing you need to look for is a blow off top. To do this, open up the trading terminal of your favorite cryptocurrency exchange and set it to full screen Next, remove all the indicators and set the timeframe to daily. Do you see parabolic price action that seems unsustainable? If you’re not sure, switch the 4-hour time Combining the RSI with the Bollinger Band and EMA should give you enough info to call a blow off top 📏Local Top Or Long Term?📏 Long term top territory is between September 2021 and January 2022. If you’re watching this video before this timeframe, then you are probably in local top If this is the case, then you need to figure out what is causing your crypto to pump. If it secured some serious partnership with a public or private institution, it’s definitely a local top However, if your crypto has zero fundamentals and is pumping purely because of social media hype, you might already be looking at the long-term top 🤑When To Sell The Top?🤑 If previous cycles are anything to go by, Bitcoin will see its blow off top first followed by altcoins. Bitcoin’s blow off top will probably be caused by one of those two catalysts This means you’ll have to keep a close eye on what Bitcoin is doing even if you don’t hold any BTC. Once you spot a blow off top, the next thing to watch for is a drop in Bitcoin dominance Historically, big drops in Bitcoin dominance tend to last for about 2 weeks, which is about the amount of time you’ll have to spot and sell the long-term tops for your favorite altcoins Keep in mind that there is a risk of getting caught in a bull trap after a long-term top. It's value from a "utility" perspective is often not considered. 🤔 Exchange Risk? 🤔 Monero is privacy coin enemy number one when it comes to regulators & agencies. They are funding numerous blockchain auditing firms in order to develop technology to track it. Monero developers are not sleeping at the wheel either. They are working on an update to the Ring Signatures scheme that they currently use. It's called Triptych. Monero is also not a security as compared to a number of other coins. It has the lowest rating when it comes to being able to be a security. There are a number of exchanges that have been delisting Monero out of fears that regulators could eventually clamp down on their trading of it. However, with the potential release of Atomic swaps, Monero could bypass the need for exchanges entirely. Users could swap Monero & Bitcoin cross chain. 📈 Network Security 📈 Monero has always been fighting against ASIC chips and mining centralisation. These are the hardware that threaten the current state of the blockchain. Monero completely neutered this threat with their release of the RandomX mining algorithm. This is heavily reliant on CPU mining which means that it decreases mining centralisation. Since the implementation of RandomX, hash rate has been climbing while the number of miners on the network has also been doing so. This all points to Monero winning the battle against these ASIC miners. 🤔 Price Potential 🤔 XMR is still 54% off of its all time high. Take note that Bitcoin is over 3x its all time high & ETH is 30% over its all time high. This really does surprise me. Monero's tech has improved by leaps and bounds since 2017 and yet it appears to be more undervalued than most other coins. Monero is also way below its value based on what it would be according to the famed stock to flow model. All on a clean and efficient mobile app that is super easy to set up and use. This was the reason for Robinhood's massive success over the past 2 years. In 2018, they had 1.8 million monthly active users. At the beginning of 2019 that number stood at 3.3 million and in 2020 they reached 4.3 million. In the lockdowns and home traders in 2020, this meant that there were many people who wanted to get in on the Robinhood action. 💴 Payment for Order Flow 💴 This is when a broker is paid by a third party to direct their orders to said third party. It's a business practice that has been alive on Wall street for decades and is one of the predominant methods that retail brokers use to earn money. Brokers are supposed to choose those brokers that give them the best execution but you can see the conflict of interest when they are being paid for this information. There are SEC rules around PFOF disclosure. Robinhood breached these rules and hence the reason that they had to pay a $60m fine to the regulators. 💴 Why Pay For Order Flow? 💴 They can arbitrage the rates between the spreads. Basically, they will buy or sell an asset between the bid-ask spread and capture the profit depending on whether the client placed a buy or sell order. However, the bulk of the money is made through knowing how trader's orders are positioned and trading against them. They can also front run some of those order by batching them. The bulk orders purchased will mean that they can sell to these buyers at a higher price. 🤔 Impact of Regulation? 🤔 There are increasing calls from a number of regulators which could see more stringent rules placed on order flow. Hence, if there is any sort of regulation it could either ban it entirely or there could be strict reporting requirements for these users. There is a significant risk to Robinhood's business model. They have highlighted this in their S1 filing where they state that they have no recourse from the market makers should they choose to cease their agreements. There are also risks to Robinhood from the fact that they have had losses in the past and it is likely they could suffer these in the future. 🤔 Why I love Defi 📈 I love its transparent blockchain. Decentralised Finance or Defi is creating a world where you won't need a Robinhood or any other middleman for that matter. There is no central entity that can control what you do on it and, because it is built on an open source blockchain, you can see exactly what is going on. There are no regulators that are determining how they function, they are governed by code only. With a 10-minute block time, that’s 5 TPS 📏Calculating Cryptocurrency Speeds📏 Understanding that a cryptocurrency’s speed is just its ability to process and store data, it becomes possible to calculate the real transaction speed of any cryptocurrency using a few metrics All you need to know is how big each block is, how frequently a block is made, and how large the average transactions on that cryptocurrency’s blockchain tends to be ⏩The Fastest Cryptocurrency: Transactions Per Second⏩ While Visa’s self-reported transactions per second is 65 thousand, Visa only processes around 2000 transactions per second on any given day The only existing cryptocurrency that comes close to this level of throughput is currently Solana, which can handle between 50 to 65 thousand transactions per second, even for smart contract transactions 💱The Fastest Cryptocurrency: Transaction Finality💱 If you think the crypto speed case is closed with Solana, I’m afraid you’re mistaken. That’s because transaction execution and transaction confirmation are two very different things Cryptocurrency exchanges always want to make sure the transaction is final before they credit your account, and the likelihood that a transaction is final typically increases with each confirmation It is fair to assume that crypto merchants will want similar confirmations in the future. If you’re wonder why all these stablecoin companies are holding so much debt, the answer is interest. The companies behind these stablecoins can make money on their clients’ money by lending it 🤼‍♂️Which Stablecoin Has The Best Collateral?🤼‍♂️ Tether’s account of what’s backing USDT should be taken with a grain of salt. That’s because they simply posted a pie chart without oversight from any accounting or auditing firm While Paxos and Circle do provide attestations of their reserves on a monthly basis, an attestation is not the same as an audit An attestation is just when a third party verifies the information being shown to them. An audit is when a third party actually goes digging through all the paperwork to see what’s not being shown to them This is the biggest difference between Paxos and its two contemporaries is that it is a regulated trust, and that’s why such a large percentage of Paxos’ reserves are made up of cash and cash equivalents Even if all their cash equivalents are debts of some kind, they are a form of debt that can be quickly redeemed for dollars regardless of market conditions. Other cryptocurrencies like yearn.finance’s YFI token have a small supply, and it is why 1 YFI is worth more than 1 BTC even though it has one fourth of the market cap of Dogecoin. This is why you should always pay attention to a cryptocurrency’s market cap rather than the actual dollar value of the coin or token, and think in percentage terms rather than dollar terms. 🙋‍♂‍Allocation and Distribution🙋‍♂‍ Cryptocurrencies are created in two ways: by fair launch, or by pre-mine. A fair launch is when a small community of people start collectively mining a coin or token. Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Dogecoin are examples of fair launched cryptocurrencies. There are no coin or token allocations for fair launched cryptocurrencies. Allocation is relevant to any cryptocurrencies that were pre-mined. A pre-mine is when the team behind the project mint some or all of the coins or tokens before opening up the network to the public. Once you have a sense of how a cryptocurrency’s coins or tokens were allocated, you can use blockchain explorers to see how the coins or tokens are currently distributed. 📈Vesting and Inflation📈 Vesting applies to pre-mined cryptocurrencies and refers to how the coins or tokens are expected to be allocated over the coming months or years. Unlocking too many tokens at once or within a short timeframe can sink the price action of that token in the short term. When it comes to inflation, a cryptocurrency is either inflationary or deflationary. If a cryptocurrency has too much inflation, it can reduce the value of the coins or tokens already in circulation over time. Unless the inflation schedule is extremely aggressive, it will have little to no effect on the short-term price potential of a cryptocurrency. 💱Staking and Utility💱 When you stake a cryptocurrency as a validator or a delegator, those coins or tokens are usually locked up for some period of time. This can supercharge positive price action during a parabolic run. ‘Utility’ is also referred to as a use case and includes basically anything that drives demand for a cryptocurrency coin or token. Chinese mining centralisation has always been a thorn in the side of Bitcoin and has been used by critics for years. Currently, over 65% of all the global mining hashpower is concentrated in China. Mining concentration is dangerous Moreover, with over 51% of the hash rate, miners could theoretically launch a double spend attack Apart from this, there are also environmental concerns that come from Bitcoin mining in China. Yes, many mining farms do use hydro power but for all of the rest, they have to rely on dirty coal fired power stations. 🇨🇳 Government Crackdown 🇨🇳 This year saw the launch of China's CBDC which meant that the government wanted to take one more move against crypto. The Chinese government also has carbon emissions goals On the 21st of May the Chinese vice premier said that the government would "crack down on Bitcoin mining and trading behavior" The price of Bitcoin immediately fell by 6% as market participants tried to process exactly what this meant. ⬇️ Miner Exodus ⬇️ Something else that we can look at is the amount of mining equipment that has hit the second hand market. This was further corroborated with comments from the CEO of Canaan, a large ASIC manufacturer listed on the Nasdaq. He said that these miners were "underselling" their equipment on the market. Within Kazakhstan, similar stories abound. According to the founder of Xive, a Kazakhstan based company helping miners, he has received "daily requests" from these Chinese miners. Alex Brammer of Luxor Tech has been fielding frantic requests from miners who are looking for data centre colocation space all over the US. Large mining pools and cloud mining operators have suspended their operations in China. The exodus has begun and as these miners start to move their operations overseas, we are likely to see a continued fall in hashpower 🤔 Good for Bitcoin? 🤔 Although there will be a temporary fall in the hashrate on the network, it will still be the best thing in the world for Bitcoin. The network is meant to be robust and adaptive. If there is a fall in the hashrate the difficulty adjusts in order to bring more miners into the fold. When the difficulty falls it means that mining bitcoin becomes easier which brings more marginal miners back into the fold. However, in the longer term as those chinese miners are able to set up their farms overseas And, when this hashpower comes back online it is likely to be in a country that is a lot more stable from a political risk perspective 🌲 Greener Mining 🌲 Energy production is different from Energy use. Bitcoin mining can use any energy source in order to mine coins. In other countries, they are less dependent on coal which is the dirtiest energy source there is in the world. When miners move there they will be using these green energy sources that will mean a lower carbon footprint.
