When passing any guard, controlling the legs in one way or another will always benefit you. Here we use the leg weave to force the hips to turn down and stop the bottom leg from getting back to a full guard.
Once the leg is under control, we can change our angle to acquire Torso control (head placement & pressure) and head/neck control (cross face).
Once the bottom man is pinned top player can use their legs to stretch the controlled legs to a point where they cannot follow and top player can finally free their foot. From there, we circle past the hips and drop in to a splash side control.

Absolutely Violent finish by Nate Landwehr!
Nate “The Train” Landwehr finished his opponent in violent fashion this past weekend. Let’s break it down.

Nate starts off entering behind a stepping jab feint getting his opponent to open his hands and attempt to parry, Landwehr rockets his power uppercut through the gap crushing Emmers.

As Emmers crashed forward to tie up Landwehr controls the inside keeping Emmers on the outside allowing Nate to continue his onslaught. At this point Emmers is falling over himself & Nate shucks him to the mat where he immediately gets his control (stiff arm post on the face) and rocket sauces Emmers w/ a massive right hand. Nate then re-acquires his post and rains hammer fist down for a massive highlight finish.

OMG KO Breakdown!
One of the craziest KOs of all time! A jump spinning back kick off a kick catch. Holy Sh!t!

Buckley stays busy behind a series of hand, foot & level feints masking a large explosive step to fire off a huge head kick, Impa had his guard up high ready for the attack. He successfully blocks the kick & turns it into a catch.
Here’s where things get spicy!
Once his leg is caught Buckley’s athleticism takes over, he rotates the caught leg till his knee points down allowing him to spring off his base leg sending a spinning back kick screaming to Impa’s jaw for the highlight reel knock out.

If you are filming in my gym, it is almost guaranteed that at some point in time I’m gonna ruin your shot.

I’m a huge advocate of filming your training. Yes you can use it for social media, but more importantly for tape study.

You should be checking your form, checking your foot placement, monitoring your footwork, making sure there’s no @rhythmstep, that your shoulders cover your jaw when punching, the list goes on forever.

Snake the arms around the calf’s. For submission sports it hides the neck from guillotine w/ a high shoulder, but most importantly it limits the opportunity to stop the shot/escape. Controlling more of the body gives you more control!

Good Defense sets up Good Offense
Here we’re using a medium/long guard to control the space in the middle. Controlling that space allows for parry’s on both incoming straight punches. Once contact has been made you can steer your opponent into bad position/broken posture where you can tie up and strike effectively.
