Clark County Today Sports Podcast, Episode 12: We remember Mark Rego
Here is Episode 12 of the Clark County Today Sports Podcast.
Head coaches get a lot of attention, as they should. But any great head coach will tell you they are nothing without outstanding assistant coaches.
In this episode, we remember Mark Rego, an assistant football coach who passed away in 2018. But in his memory, there is an athletic scholarship that has already helped more than 100 students. Rego was an inspiration to so many in his life, and he continues to serve Clark County.
We also talk about professional sports, including the NFL gambling rules, the Mariners chances, and our respect for Damian Lillard.
Oh, and there is a ghost story, too.
For now, the Clark County Today sports podcast usually record once every two weeks. (As a head’s up, with summer scheduling, the next podcast will record the week of July 17.) We hope you enjoy the show. And if you have a subject idea for a later podcast, email: paul.v@clarkcountytoday.com

Clark County Today Sports Podcast, Episode 5: What it means to eliminate athletic director positions
Here is Episode 5 of the Clark County Today Sports Podcast. We had to talk about the elephant in the room: The proposal to cut athletic directors from Evergreen Public Schools. Yes, there will be sports. But the sports will be run under a new system. And we are in the process of losing qualified, high-character people who love their jobs.
We also give a salute to the Camas girls basketball team for their second-place finish at state, and we talk a little controversy at state basketball. Should video replay be used at state? What about official protests at state?
It’s me, reporter Paul Valencia, along with high school sports administrators Tony Liberatore of Vancouver Public Schools and Cale Piland of Evergreen Public Schools.
Enjoy!

Clark County Today Sports Podcast • Episode 2
Reporter Paul Valencia, and local high school administrators Tony Liberatore and Cale Piland talk about sports.
Welcome back to the Clark County Today Sports Podcast. This is Episode 2. (And, by the way, we are open to a new name for the podcast.)
Reporter Paul Valencia, along with school administrators and former coaches Tony Liberatore and Cale Piland talk local and some national sports.
This week, we talk a little bit about Signing Day and some of the big-name football coaches who have and haven’t come to Clark County to visit potential recruits.
We get into sportsmanship and what can be done to avoid horrendous, 100-point margins of victory in basketball.
A salute to Brooklynn Haywood of Union girls basketball for her 50-point game.
Some coaching changes in local high school football.
A shout out to Ryland Spencer of Cascadia Preps, and a little known fact: Cale Piland coached Ryland Spencer in Cale’s one season with Juanita football.
Plus our Super Bowl picks.
As stated when we introduced this podcast, for now we are recording once every two weeks. We appreciate any feedback or topic ideas. Send them to Paul Valencia at: paul.v@clarkcountytoday.com
