Searching For Happiness

Sermon Notes
Matthew 5:3-12 3“Blessed arethe poor in spirit, fortheirs is the kingdom of heaven.4“Blessed arethose who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5“Blessed are themeek, for theyshall inherit the earth.
6“Blessed are those who hunger andthirstfor righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
7“Blessed arethe merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8“Blessed arethe pure in heart, forthey shall see God.
9“Blessed arethe peacemakers, forthey shall be calledsons[a]of God. 10“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, fortheirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falselyon my account.12Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, forso they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
The Popular Idea of happiness:
Having right circumstances.
Ecclesiastes 2:1-17
Ecclesiastes 2:1 2Isaid in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy yourself.” But behold, this also was vanity.
Dead ends:
Accumulating Things. (Vs. 7,8)
7I bought male and female slaves, and hadslaves who were born in my house. I had also great possessions ofherds and flocks, more than any who had been before me in Jerusalem.8I also gathered for myself silver andgold and the treasure ofkings andprovinces. I gotsingers, both men and women, and manyconcubines, the delight of the sons of man.
Experiencing Pleasures. (Vs. 3,10)
3Isearched with my heart how to cheer my body with wine—my heart still guiding me with wisdom—and how to lay hold onfolly, till I might see what was good for the children of man to do under heaven during the few days of their life.
10And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heartfound pleasure in all my toil, and this was myreward for all my toil.
Achieving success . (Vs. 4-6,9)
4I made great works. Ibuilt houses and plantedvineyards for myself.5I made myselfgardens and parks, and planted in them all kinds of fruit trees.6I made myself pools from which to water the forest of growing trees.
9So I became great andsurpassed all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also mywisdom remained with me.
Ecclesiastes 2:17 17So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, forall is vanity and a striving after wind.
Gods way to happiness:
Having the right attitude.
Matthew 5:3-12 3“Blessed arethe poor in spirit, fortheirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4“Blessed arethose who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
9“Blessed arethe peacemakers, forthey shall be calledsonsof God.
Blessed means Happy.
The first step of happiness:
Be Humble.
How Humility increases my happiness:
It reduces Stress.
It improves my relationship.
It releases God’s Power.
James 4:6 6Buthe gives more grace. Therefore it says,“God opposes the proud butgives grace to the humble.”
Matthew 5:3 3“Blessed arethe poor in spirit, fortheirs is the kingdom of heaven.
John 13:17 17If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

How Close is the Return of Jesus? Part - 2
Join us for the compelling continuation of our series, "How Close is His Return?" with Part 2, as we delve into the urgent message conveyed in Matthew 25:1-13. This sermon will explore the significance of readiness, drawing from Luke 21:36 and 1 Thessalonians 1:10, reminding us to stay vigilant and prepared for the imminent return of our Lord.
But what if we find ourselves amidst tribulation? Revelation paints a vivid picture of the trials that may come upon the earth (Revelation 6:8, 9:18), yet we take solace in 1 Thessalonians 5:9, knowing that God has not destined us for wrath but for salvation.
Moreover, we'll examine the signs of the times, recognizing the season of Jesus's return (Joel 3:1-2, Matthew 24:34, Mark 13:3, Luke 21:28). Through these scriptures and more (Revelation 11:5-10, 13:11-18, 14:11; Ezekiel 28:3-6; Jeremiah 49:34-39; Ezekiel 39:13; Revelation 12:14; Revelation 19:15), we'll gain insight into the urgency of our times and the need for steadfast faith.

Sermon Notes
Romans 12:1-2
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers,by the mercies of God,to present your bodiesas a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed bythe renewal of your mind, that by testing you maydiscern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Hebrews 12:1-2 12
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
1. We are to reflect Jesus.
1 Corinthians 11:30
That is why many of you are weak and ill, and somehave died.
2. We are to focus on the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:6-8
6For to setthe mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.7For the mind that is set on the flesh ishostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law;indeed, it cannot.8Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
3. We must take every thought captive.
2 Corinthians 10:4-6
4For theweapons ofour warfare are not of the flesh but havedivine powerto destroy strongholds.5We destroy arguments andevery lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive toobey Christ,6being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
Isaiah 26:3
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

Sermon Notes
Jeremiah 29:11 11For I know the plans I have for you, declares theLord, plans for welfareand not for evil,to give you a future and a hope.
Psalms 138:8 8TheLordwillfulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, OLord, endures forever. Do not forsakethe work of your hands.
1 Corinthians 12:14-27 14For the body does not consist of one member but of many.15If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.16And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.17If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell?18But as it is,God arranged the members in the body, each one of them,as he chose.19If all were a single member, where would the body be?20As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. 21The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”22On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,23and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty,24which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it,25that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.26If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. 27Nowyou are the body of Christ and individuallymembers of it.
Last week we looked at:

Acts 4:13 13Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.
(2) Our Greatest ambition is to be accepted of Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:9 9So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim toplease him.

3. The motive for mercy:
- Because God has shown me mercy.
- Because you do not know when you will need mercy.

- Because it makes me happy.

Matthew 5:8 8“Blessed arethe pure in heart, forthey shall see God.
Matthew 6:1 6“Beware ofpracticing your righteousness before other people in orderto be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
How to develop a pure heart.
1. Remember that God sees everything.
Matthew 6:4-6 4so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
5“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they loveto stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others.Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.6But when you pray,go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Hebrews 4:13 13Andno creature is hidden from his sight, but all arenaked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
2. Review my motives.
Proverbs 24:21 21My son, fear theLordand the king, and do not join with those who do otherwise,
- Giving
Matthew 6:2-3 2“Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they maybe praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they havereceived their reward.3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
- Praying
Matthew 6:5-6 5“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they loveto stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others.Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.6But when you pray,go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
- Fasting
Matthew 6:16-18 16“Andwhen you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others.Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.17But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,18that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
1 Thessalonians 2:4 4but just as we have been approved by Godto be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, notto please man, but to please Godwho tests our hearts.
3. Realign my priorities
Exodus 20:3 3“You shall have no other gods before me.
How do I know my priorities?
Three Tests
1. Look at my activities
Matthew 6:19 19“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, wheremoth and rustdestroy and where thievesbreak in and steal,
2. Look at my anxieties
Matthew 6:25 25“Therefore I tell you,do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
3. Look at my ambitions
Matthew 6:31-33 31Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’32Forthe Gentiles seek after all these things, andyour heavenly Father knows that you need them all.33Butseek firstthe kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Psalm 51:10 10Create in me aclean heart, O God, andrenew a rightspirit within me.

Is Prayer Possible?

Is Peace Possible?
Speaker - Owen Mason
Sermon Notes
Matthew 5:9 9“Blessed arethe peacemakers, forthey shall be calledsons of God.
1. Misconceptions about peacemaking.
- It is not pretending it does not exist.
- It is not appeasement.
Question:
- Are you a peace maker?
- Are you a peace keeper?
2. Why be a peacemaker?
- Because unresolved conflict:
- Blocks my fellowship with God.
1 John 4:20-21 20If anyone says, “I love God,” andhates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannotlove Godwhom he has not seen.21Andthis commandment we have from him:whoever loves God must also love his brother.
1 John 1:3-4 3that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeedour fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.4And we are writing these things sothat ourjoy may be complete.
- Prevents prayer from being answered.
- Hinders my happiness.
Job 18:4 4You whotear yourself in your anger,
shall the earth be forsaken for you,
orthe rock be removed out of its place?
3. How to be a peacemaker.
P.E.A.C.E.
- Plan a peace conference.
Matthew 5:23-24 23So ifyou are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,24leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
- Empathize with their feelings.
Philippians 2:4 4Let each of youlook not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others
- Attack the problem not the person.
- Cooperate as much as possible.
Romans 12:18 18If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
James 3:17 17Butthe wisdom from above is first pure, thenpeaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial andsincere.
- Empathize reconciliation not resolution.
2 Corinthians 5:18 18All this is from God,who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave usthe ministry of reconciliation;
Colossians 3:15 15And letthe peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were calledin one body. Andbe thankful.
4. Peace in the home.
Ephesians 5:22 22Wives,submit to your own husbands,as to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:25 25Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church andgave himself up for her,
1 Peter 3:7 7Likewise,husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weakervessel, since they are heirs with youof the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered

Standing Strong Part - 1
In the face of life's challenges, Romans 8:31 reminds us: "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" This assurance prompts reflection: What are we lacking? Romans 8:32-33 assures that God, who gave His Son for us, will graciously provide all we need. Dwelling in His shelter (Psalms 91:1) brings restoration. Our faith (Hebrews 11:6) and adherence to His Word (1 Peter 3:15) shape our character (1 Timothy 4:7). Through prayer (James 5:16), condemnation fades (Romans 8:34-35), and even suffering is met with rejoicing (Romans 8:36-39).
Follow along with Pastor Owen in Part 1 of his message entitled, "Standing Strong".

Standing Strong - Part 2
"Standing Strong - Part 2" explores the essence of resilience and victory in Christ, drawing from a rich tapestry of biblical passages. Emphasizing five indispensable keys to overcoming, the sermon delves into the power of Restoration, echoing the endurance of saints in 2 Corinthians 6:3-7 and the transformative rebirth in 2 Corinthians 5:17-20. Faith, illuminated through Hebrews 11:1-6 and Romans 4:3-5, emerges as an unwavering anchor. The Word, as our guiding light according to 1 Peter 3:15, intertwines with the cultivation of Character (1 Timothy 4:7) and the potency of Prayer (James 5:16). Amidst trials, the message resonates with the reassurance from Romans 8:34-35 and 36-39, urging believers to rejoice even in suffering, echoing Psalm 91:2-6's profound promise of divine protection and refuge.

Standing Strong - Part 3
Join us for the third installment of our series, "Standing Strong," as we delve into the reassuring truths of Romans 8:34-35. Are you feeling condemned? Let the words of Scripture remind you: Christ Jesus, who died and rose again, now intercedes for us, and nothing can separate us from His love. Even in suffering, we are called to rejoice (Romans 8:36-39), knowing that we are conquerors through Him who loves us. Take refuge in Christ, as proclaimed in Psalm 91:2-6, finding safety and protection in His faithful promises. Drawing from Ephesians 4:12-16 and 2 Timothy 2:1-2, we are reminded of our role in building up the body of Christ and passing on the truths we've received. Let us stand strong in the grace of Christ, equipped to share His love and truth with others.

Cut The Bull
In the biblical narrative of 1 Kings, we encounter the boldness of the prophet Elijah confronting the waywardness of King Ahab and the people of Israel. Ahab's reign was marked by idolatry and disobedience, epitomized by his marriage to Jezebel and his worship of Baal. Elijah's challenge on Mount Carmel serves as a powerful illustration of the need to confront compromise and stand firm in faith.
Firstly, Elijah's presence unsettled Ahab, highlighting the discomfort that God's truth often brings to those living in disobedience (1 Kings 18:17-19). Similarly, believers today may face opposition when they boldly live out their faith in a world at odds with God's principles.
Secondly, Elijah's question to the people of Israel echoes through the ages, urging us to choose whom we will serve (1 Kings 18:21). In a culture of moral relativism, God calls us to unwavering commitment and allegiance to Him.
Lastly, Elijah's prayer demonstrates the power of persistent faith in God's intervention (1 Kings 18:36-38). Just as God answered Elijah with fire from heaven, He invites us to call upon Him in our times of need, trusting in His provision and sovereignty. In this sermon, we are challenged to cut through the bull of compromise and half-hearted devotion, embracing a faith that is bold, unwavering, and reliant on the power of God to bring about transformation and revival.

Ephesians 6:14 14Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, andhaving put on the breastplate of righteousness,
2 Corinthians 6:7 7bytruthful speech, andthe power of God; withthe weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left;
Isaiah 59:17 17He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing,
and wrapped himself inzeal as a cloak.
1. What area in your life do you struggle the most with?
Romans 8:37 37No, in all these things we are more thanconquerors throughhim who loved us.
2. Jesus enabled us to live out righteousness.
2 Corinthians 5:21 21For our sake he made him to be sinwho knew no sin, so that in him we might becomethe righteousness of God.
Romans 5:17 17For if, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousnessreign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
Romans 3:21-22 21But nowthe righteousness of Godhas been manifested apart from the law, althoughthe Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—22the righteousness of Godthrough faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:

Sermon Notes
Matthew 5: 4”Blessed arethose who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
How to experience God’s comfort
1. Realize God is with you.
Psalm 34:18 18TheLordis near tothe brokenhearted and savesthe crushed in spirit.
Remember the following:
- God is aware.
Job 13:27 27You put my feet inthe stocks andwatch all my paths; you set a limit forthe soles of my feet.
- God cares.
Nahum 1:7 7TheLordis good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.
- God wants to help.
Hebrews 4:16 16Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
2. Release the hurt.
Ephesians 3:16-20 16I pray that out of his glorious richeshe may strengthen you with powerthrough his Spirit in your inner being,17so that Christ may dwell in your heartsthrough faith. And I pray that you, being rootedand established in love,18may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people,to grasp how wide and long and high and deepis the love of Christ,19and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filledto the measure of all the fullness of God. 20Now to him who is ableto do immeasurably more than all we askor imagine, according to his powerthat is at work within us,21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
How?
Stop focusing on what is lost and start focusing on what is left.
Isaiah 43:18 18“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.
Romans 12:19 19Beloved,never avenge yourselves, but leave itto the wrath of God, for it is written,“Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

Romans 15:13 13May the God of hope fill you with alljoy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Restoring Family Relationships
Speaker - Jeff Hartwig
Sermon Notes
Acts 15:36-41 NLT "After some time Paul said to Barnabas, "Let's go back and visit each city where we previously preached the word of the Lord, to see how the new believers are doing." But Paul disagreed strongly, since John Mark had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in their work. Barnabas agreed and wanted to take along John Mark. Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus. Then he traveled throughout Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches there Paul chose Silas, and as he left, the believers entrusted him to the Lord’s gracious care.”
1. Satan has no new gimmicks, or methods. Divide and conquer is his primary plan to destroy relationships!
2. As believers, we have a huge advantage!
Romans 12:18, "If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”
3. Living selfishly kills family relationships! Putting others first, promotes healing!
The 3 C’s
- Cover an offense
Proverbs 19:11 Amp. "Good sense makes a man restrain his anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression or an offense.”
- Confront an offense
Gal. 6:1 NLT "Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path.
- But never let it Cook
Heb. 12:15 NLT "Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.”
4. When conflict occurs in a family, it can either be a point of growth, or a point of breakdown and sometimes breakdown.
1 John 5:14-15 NIV "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us — whatever we ask— we know that we have what we asked of him.”
5. Dress for success not failure!
Colossians 3:12-15. NLT "Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with
tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”
Matthew 5:23-25 NLT So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God. “When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison.

How Close is the Return of Jesus?
In Matthew 25:1-13, Jesus shares the parable of the ten virgins, emphasizing readiness for His return. As the bridegroom's arrival is delayed, five virgins, unprepared without oil, miss the celebration. This sermon delves into the urgency of spiritual preparedness and vigilance, echoing Luke 21:36 and 1 Thessalonians 1:10, reassuring believers that they are not destined for wrath but for salvation. Moreover, Revelation vividly portrays the tribulations preceding Christ's return, urging believers to stand firm (Revelation 6:8, 9:18).
Drawing from Joel's prophecy and Christ's teachings (Matthew 24:34, Mark 13:3, Luke 21:28), we recognize the signs heralding His imminent return. Additional Scriptures like Revelation 11:5-10 and 13:11-18 provide insights into end-time events, challenging believers to discern the times and remain faithful amidst tribulations.
This sermon aims to ignite a sense of urgency and expectancy, urging believers to be spiritually alert and prepared as we await the glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
