Encounter God
1. God wants to know you before you serve him.
Expect His Grace
2. The first thing God sees in us is the grace he has deposited in us.
Romans 8:15 15For youhave not received a spirit of slaveryleading to fear again, but youhave receiveda spirit of adoption as sonsand daughtersby which we cry out, “Abba!Father!”

3. The one thing needed is resting in Him.

Wives and Husbands
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bod- ies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one
flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.
1. Marriage is symbolic for Christ’s relationship to the church.
Ephesians 5:24 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.
Ephesians 5:32 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. Colossians 3:18 18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Titus 2:5 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.
1 Corinthians 11:3 3 But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.
2. Submission starts with Christ.
Biblical Submission in marriage is the disposition to follow a husband’s authority and a loving re- sponse to yield to his relationship. It is an attitude that says “I delight for you to take initiative in our family. I am glad when you take responsibility for things and lead with love. I don’t flourish when you are passive and when I have to make sure the family works.”
Genesis 3:16 16 To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.”
John 13:12-17 12 When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
Mark 10:42-45 42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you. 3. God established the family structure.
Ephesians 5:22-24 22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.
Ephesians 5:28 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
4. Respect your husband.
Ephesians 5:33 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
What submission does not mean:
a.) It does not mean you agree with your husband about everything. b.) It does not mean you cannot discuss your thoughts.
c.) It does not mean a wife has no influence.
d.) It does not mean putting the will of your husband before the word of God.

17Now this I say andtestify in the Lord,that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do,in the futility of their minds.18Theyare darkened in their understanding,alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due totheir hardness of heart.19Theyhave become callous andhave given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.20But that is not the way youlearned Christ!—21assuming thatyou have heard about him andwere taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus,22toput offyour old self,which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt throughdeceitful desires,23andto be renewed in the spirit of your minds,24and to put onthe new self,created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
25Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of youspeak the truth with his neighbor, forwe are members one of another.26Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,27andgive no opportunity to the devil.28Let the thief no longer steal, but ratherlet him labor,doing honest work with his own hands, sothat he may have something to share with anyone in need.29Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may givegrace to those who hear.30Anddo not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,by whom you were sealed for the day ofredemption.31Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.32Be kind to one another, tenderhearted,forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
1. We, in Christ, are to strengthen one another.
Hebrews 10:24-25 24Andlet us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,25not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, andall the more as you seethe Day drawing near.
2. We are not to be as the unbeliever.

a.) Darkened in understanding
b.) Alienated from God
c.) Hardened in their heart

3. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.

4. Put away sinful behavior.

Bitterness - Hebrews 12:15 15See to it that no onefails to obtain the grace of God; that no“root of

Wrath – angry outbursts or rage
Anger – mounting frustration
Clamor – brawling
Slander – words with intent to harm
Malice – making a plan to act out harm
Ephesians 4:32 32Be kind to one another, tenderhearted,forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Luke 8:43-48 43 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. 44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. 45 And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.” 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

1. Life brings us difficulties
Question: What has life come at you with?
2. Difficulties can produce the following results.
A. Steal your identity.
1 Corinthians 9:27 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
Hebrews 4:15-16 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
B. Difficulties can absorb your resources.
Luke 8:43 43 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone.
John 10:10 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
C. Difficulties can Isolate you.
Matthew 14:36 36 and implored him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.
Isaiah 39: 1-6 At that time Merodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent envoys with letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that he had been sick and had recovered. 2 And Hezekiah welcomed them gladly. And he showed them his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious oil, his whole armory, all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his house or in all his realm that Hezekiah did not show them. 3 Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say? And from where did they come to you?” Hezekiah said, “They have come to me from a far country, from Babylon.” 4 He said, “What have they seen in your house?” Hezekiah answered, “They have seen all that is in my house. There is nothing in my storehouses that I did not show them.”
5 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord of hosts: 6 Behold, the days are coming, when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up till this day, shall be carried to Babylon. Nothing shall be left, says the LORD.
Genesis 30:33 33 So my honesty will answer for me later, when you come to look into my wages with you. Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats and black among the lambs, if found with me, shall be counted stolen.”
Hebrews 10: 1-4 10 For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. 2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? 3 But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Colossians 3:2-3 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
2 Corinthians 5:17 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22 Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.” 25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther, 29 but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them. 30 When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. 32 They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” 33 And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” 35 Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.
1. What has you going in the wrong direction?

2. Who knows your tomorrow?

1 Peter 5:7-10 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
3. Jesus appeared and said “Peace to you!”
Luke 24:36 36 As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!”

Are you fruitful when facing rejection?

Are you fruitful when facing false accusation?

Are you fruitful in isolation?
Genesis 40:4-19 4The captain of the guard appointed Joseph to be with them, and he attended them. They continued for some time in custody. 5And one night they both dreamed—the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison—each his own dream, and each dream with its own interpretation.6When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they were troubled.7So he asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in custody in his master's house,“Why are your faces downcast today?”8They said to him,“We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them,“Do not interpretations belong to God? And the birds will eat the flesh from you.”
Genesis 40:23 23Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.

The New Life

1. What should be seen in our lives?

a.) Humility – How we view ourselves in light of God’s word.
b.) Gentleness – How we respond when we are persecuted.

c.) Patience – How we respond when others fail or bother us.
d.) Empathy – bearing with one another in love.

1. There are two types of peace.
a. Peace with God
Romans 5:1 1Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,wehave peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
b.Peace of God
Acts 16:16-35 Paul and Silas in Prison 16As we were going tothe place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who hada spirit ofdivination andbrought her owners much gain by fortune-telling.17She followed Paul and us,crying out, “These men areservants ofthe Most High God, who proclaim to youthe way of salvation.”18And this she kept doing for many days. 2. Christ gives us peace.

2. Knowing who you are in Christ is vital.
a. Our original identity

b. Our original destiny
Romans 10:10 10For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Hebrews 10:1-4 1 For since the law has buta shadowof the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities,it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near.2Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins?3Butin these sacrificesthere is a reminder of sins every year.4Forit is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

1. Gentiles are given hope by Christ.

2. Where do we find real peace?
Ephesians 2:14-16 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.
Romans 3:20-23 20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Philippians 4:6 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
3. We are joined together as the Body of Christ.

Ephesians 3:1-11 1For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles— 2 assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace that was given to me for you, 3 how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. 4 When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. 6 This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

What is the mystery? The Church Age.
Acts 13:1-3 1Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.

I. Unity in the church results in overflow of Holy Spirit power!
Acts 5:11-16 11Andgreat fear came over the whole church, and over all who heardaboutthese things.
12At the hands of the apostles manysigns and wonders were taking place among the people; and they were alltogether inSolomon’sportico.13But none of the rest dared to associate with them; however,the people held them in high esteem.14And increasinglybelievers in the Lord, large numbers of men and women, were beingadded totheir number,15to such an extent that they even carried the sick out into the streets and laid them on cots and pallets, so that when Peter came byat least his shadow might fall on any of them.16Thepeople from the cities in the vicinity of Jerusalem were coming together as well, bringing people who were sickor tormented with unclean spirits, and they were all being healed.
II. Disagreements & Disputes in the body of Christ, hinder the Spirit by causing division.
III. We must follow God’s way to correct and mend relationships
Matthew 18:15-17 15“Nowif your brother sins, go andshow him his faultin private; if he listens to you, you have gained your brother.16But if he does not listento you, take one or two more with you, so thaton thetestimony of two or three witnesses everymatter may be confirmed.17And if he refuses to listen to them,tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church,he is to be to you asa Gentile anda tax collector.
1.) Go to them one on one
2.) Go to them with one or two more witnesses
3.) Go to church pastoral staff
4.) Further refusal should lead to expulsion from church
IV. Forgiveness and Restoration must be the goal.
Matthew 18:21-22 21Then Peter came up and said to Him, “Lord,how many times shall my brother sin against me and Istillforgive him? Up toseven times?”22Jesus said to him,“I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up toseventy-seven times.
Matthew 5:23-24 23Therefore, if you arepresenting youroffering at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you,24leave youroffering there before the altar and go; first bereconciled to your brother, and then come and present youroffering.
Galatians 6:1-2 Brothersand sisters, even if a person is caught in any wrongdoing, you who arespiritual are torestore such a personin a spirit of gentleness;each onelooking to yourself, so that you are not tempted as well.2Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfillthe law of Christ.

1.What is the will of God for you?
