#NewJersey #Tops #Diner #restaurantreview
This is my favorite #diner in #NJ but now that it has been renovated it might be too fancy to be a diner. To me what defines a diner is;
1. Open 24hrs (I feel like I have to be flexible with this one now because of the times we are in)
2. Affordability. Diners are supposed to be cheap. They have a history of serving the working class of this country in tough times its a place where you know you can afford a meal. This is where I struggle to still call this a diner its more like a good restaurant with a diner theme.
3. Breakfast all day no exceptions. They hit the mark on that one.
How do you define a diner? Is this a Diner? Leave a comment below.

What Tools and Appliances Should I Buy for my Kitchen? #AskChefGrace
So there was too much for a short for this. Here are some links to some kitchen tools, appliances, and equipment in order of MUST HAVES to Now were just having fun or we're becoming serious cooks. All of the links are amazon affiliate links. Some of these you may think are on the expensive side, but I am really only recommending things that I know from experience will last. Some of these brands have been around for so long its also easy to find used versions for cheap in thrift stores.
Sauté Pan- I was first introduced to scanpan when I worked at Sur La Table and I have to say it lives up to it's expectations. We should all be moving away from pans with non stick coating because the coating is toxic. This pan is non stick because of the way the metal is fired, it's also dishwasher safe. I've really beaten the sh*t out of mine and I still use it every day after over a year now. https://amzn.to/30UII0m
A Large heavy bottomed pot- Having a thick bottom is important for more than just your Instagram. A thick bottom on a pot is going to retain the heat and spread it more evenly which is important if you're going to have something simmering for hours, if you are trying to keep frying oil at a consistent temperature, or even if you are going to attempt making candy. Because I do make candy I usually go for a stainless steel finish on my pots so I can see the color of the caramel better. https://amzn.to/30R9lnt
A good knife- I made a video about this a while ago, every kitchen needs a good sharp knife. Here is the link to that video. Also please use a cutting board.
https://youtu.be/c35QFbzuJd4
This is the knife I use: https://amzn.to/30OZYnL
Sheet pan AKA Cookie sheet. relatively inexpensive but essential for everything in the oven. I like to get a deal with one that comes with a wire rack that can be used for roast or as a cooling rack.
you want at least one for each rack in your oven. https://amzn.to/3cJKhkE
Small electric appliances
Food Processor- I love my cuisine art as you can see in my pesto video. Almost every professional kitchen I've worked in has had this particular model because they can really handle a beating. Even the ones that would break after years of restaurant abuse were always easily refurbished. https://amzn.to/3CUY3eU
Blender - I don't have one yet but the king of all blenders is the Vitamix (the manual one is better than the digital one.) https://amzn.to/32wwThR
But if you can't afford that this cuisine art is a good alternative https://amzn.to/3FE0xQm
If you still want that deep fryer Taz, I actually found this one on sale for 40 dollars at target about a year ago and I really like how easily it comes apart to clean. https://amzn.to/3HPPdCJ
And I wouldn't be a pastry chef if I didn't recommend a stand mixer. Tis the season they go on sale. I hate the ones that screw into the bottom but that's a rant for another day. Check out this podcast with Mr. Mixer to learn more about stand mixers. https://youtu.be/QRwIPCkkR-g
and this link to buy one new but I really recommend watching the podcast with Mr. Mixer so you can learn more about your options when it comes to refurbished and used mixers. https://amzn.to/3G07FHd
Did I miss one you're interested in or simply can't live without? Let me know in the comments below!

City Green-Jasmine Moreano- Chef Grace's Place Podcast
Come hang out with Jasmine and I as we talk about City Green! City Green is an urban farming and gardening organization I found out about through Instagram. Scrolling through I realized they were based right near where I grew up, in Paterson, Mt. Olive, and Clifton, NJ!
The more I do the podcast the more I recognize the importance of food sovereignty in our communities. It's organizations like City Green that are bringing that back to communities that would otherwise be a food deserts. They are not just supplying fresh food but they are also educating people about how to grow their own food!
