DEFENDING THE FAITH - Mother of God (Part 2) - Mary is NOT 'God the Mother' 1.) Mary is the mother of Jesus, who is God; therefore, she is the mother of God. 2.) The Bible says that Jesus emptied Himself and became one of us in all ways but sin. Mary truly was the mother of Jesus and, along with Saint Joseph, foster father of Jesus, provided for all of Jesus' needs: carrying Him in her womb, giving birth to Him, nursing Him, teaching Him to walk and talk, etc. 3.) Mary is the mother of God; she is not "God the Mother". Mary is a creature of God, fully human; not divine. She is not equal to Jesus. DEFENDING THE FAITH - Mother of God (Part 1) - Mary Directs Us Towards Jesus 1.) We HONOR Mary because Christ honored her as His own mother, keeping in accordance with the very commandment that He gave to us - "Honor thy mother and father". Honor does not mean worship. We don't worship our physical mother; nor do we worship our spiritual mother (Mary). We honor them. 2.) Mary directs us TOWARDS Jesus.
