CW Ops in the park with special guest WB4MNK
Art is an amateur radio operator whose callsign is WB4MNK. He is one of my first mentors I met when I decided to join the hobby. This video is of him operating using a portable QRP radio and antenna from Reed Canal Park in South Daytona Beach. I ask some questions and get some answers but there's a good amount of time when it's just the sound of Morse Code.
He was using a Xiegu X6100 at 5 watts and an antenna of home design. He said he was sending at about 17 WPM.

Solar power setup for ham radio QRP operating in the field
After talking about a 1.5 AH power budget for operating a QRP ham radio in my last video, I decide to see if a 60 watt monocrystalline folding panel and basic PWM controller would have worked during today's broken clouds but sunny day.
I'll try this again on a cloudy day in the future for comparison.
Item specifics and links will be in the matching entry on the camping and ham radio blog page. Thanks for watching, liking, and subscribing.

Looking back at the Yaesu FT817ND and talking about battery size for QRP ops
I bring out my first HF radio which was a FT817ND for some show and tell and then discuss battery sizing considerations for QRP field operations. I try to keep the math simple. At the end the neighbors dogs started barking so I wrap things up with some questions about what viewers would like to see next?

CHA-TDL Antenna Testing Update and NMO troubleshooting
I test the CHA-TDL again this time without radials and elevated off the ground. I also try to figure out if there's an issue with my antenna analyzer or my NMO mounts.
I want to get something rock solid down before driving 15 minutes to make my first POTA activation. The NMOs have been my plan B in the past to avoid extended antenna setups in the rain but so far they aren't working.
