Spiritual Warfare and Spiritual Gifts: Part 7
n a world that feels like there is a constant tug-of-war between good and evil, many are left wondering whether or not God cares, or if He is even there. In reply, the Christian declares that the warfare we experience is not simply ideological, meaning a difference of ideas among people - politically, socially, economically, and otherwise - but it is also spiritual, meaning that there are both angels fighting for us, and demons fighting against us, in the unseen world. In and through it all, God has equipped his Church with spiritual gifts to fight this spiritual battle, which has ideological implications in our day-to-day living. Join us, on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. as we talk about Spiritual Warfare and Spiritual Gifts.

The Splinters of Life
The traumas of our past can be painful. So painful in fact that we may find ourselves crying out to God for relief. But the relief God wants to give us comes in the form of treating our problems, not just numbing the pain they cause.

Time is Running Out to Repent…
In Luke 20, Jesus knows that his crucifixion is merely days away and that there is an active plot against him. He knows the Pharisees seek to kill him in an attempt to secure their positions of power. But Jesus warns them in the "parable of the evil tenants" killing him will do nothing to secure their power. Rather, killing him will be the final indictment on their guilt. So, what are we to do? Listen to Fr. Charles, as he explains Jesus’ warning to us all and the steps we can take to heed his warning.

The Heart of the Father
In the parable of the Prodigal Son the younger brother is sensual and worldly and the older is self-centered and calloused. The sins they manifest are different but neither has the heart of their Father. Listen to Fr. Charles as he gives insight and application to this parable.

What is salvation?
A man approaches Jesus and says, "Lord, will the saved be few?" In light of this, Fr. Chris takes up three issues: what salvation is not; what salvation is, and how we can know if we are among the saved.

The Gifts God has Given Us
Bishop Ackerman explains our Gospel reading first to our children and then to the rest of us. The Gospel reading can be rather confusing for the Spirit leads Jesus into the wilderness to be tested and we have to ask ourselves, “Why would the Spirit do this?” By recalling his own experiences at the very spot Jesus was tempted, Bishop Ackerman paints a picture of the wilderness and how we might face our own temptations this season of Lent.

Repentance, Advent and the Church
Based on our Gospel reading, Luke 3: 7-20, here is Fr. Charles' sermon from Sunday: Just as John called Israel to repentance, Christ still calls His church to do the same. Christians should be the first people willing to repent from their own sins.
