My First UE Project! (Better Trees) [7]
The song is Blue Sky in Green from the Cozy Coffee Shop channel, very relaxing work music.
For those new to the series, I'll give you a brief run down of what it's been the past few months. It's essentially a developer journal I'm keeping to track my progress weekly. You may think; "Oh, but what if some other developer takes your idea!?", Well, that's not really a problem to me, if you recreate my work than you deserve it all power to ya'. I'm designing the project in such a way that it can be a game about anything after all. RTS, FPS, RPG, I'm setting it up to where I can pivot to any genre. So, if you're inspired by it, by all means I'd like to see where you take it. The fantasy medieval genre is generic enough.
Now, my old trees had these janky opacity masks that made nanite unusable and honestly didn't look very good. Instead, I modeled individual branches with individual leaves to 'fluff up' the tree a bit. It's a ridiculously high poly mesh, but with nanite or billboards they're optimal enough. The tree trunk branches, the big straight ones- they look a bit off still. Can't quite put my finger on it.
I also arranged a quick nature scene outside the city to get a feel for what the surrounding forest may look like. Makes me want to add even more rock variations. Their textures also stretch in some places.

My First UE Project! Bushes! [6]
This week I made another foliage asset, some bushes. Was going to add some flowers too but ended up running out of time this week.

My First UE Project! [5]
Started modeling my first interior!
Seeing how lumen interacts with interior areas and lights. So far, my lights
seem pretty buggy in interior areas. It's likely because they're dynamic and not static lights, I need to set some up and use baked lighting.
I've been modeling a lot lately in Blender and I'll have lots more to show you soon!

What story does this town have?
My next update on my medieval DnD inspired fantasy town!
It's a basic little thing, isn't it? It's simple now, but complexity has a way of building, trust me!
I'm entering my 2nd month working on this project, and I'm just getting started. Any feedback is appreciated, maybe you have an idea on design, advice on the engine, or a story idea or theme that fits the town.

My First Unreal Project! [3]
What should I call this series? Any feedback is appreciated! Maybe you don't like the rocks or something, it's a fantasy kingdom so anything goes!

My First UE Project! [4]
I updated the engine to 5.3, so it runs a bit better but there's this weird white flickering on my leaves material. It's the only material with an opacity mask, that must have something to do with it.
Anyway I made some crates, saw how my berry bowl ran in-engine. (Better than inside Blender actually) Nanite is insane, and all these other new 5.3 features like displacement is wild. That's the next main thing I want to add because I loved using displacement in Blender. But handling that in real time without nanite is impossible, tessellation is the next best thing.

What Should I Name This Town?
Unambitious developer here, learnin' some UE5. I'll be using social media to track my progress on my first ever Unreal project.
I don't use other peoples assets, I prefer to use my own models, animations and materials.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I just like making stuff, so I don't really
follow any industry standards. I could use some, but I feel like most of those are more harmful than good standards to have.
Lots of games have a lower standard these days because they focus on microtransactions and the game trailer. I just want good game.
For right now, I'm just modeling the basic gameworld, building by building, street,
by street. UE5 makes it as easy as it can be, but it's still daunting.
