There is No One Like the God of Jeshurun, Deuteronomy 32:48-34:12
Jan 15, 2023, S-1523-KL
This week, we conclude our yearlong study in Deuteronomy, the fifth and final book of the Mosaic Law, which the Jews call The Torah. As we review the final verses of Deuteronomy 32 and Moses’ blessings upon the tribes of Israel in Chapter 33, Pastor Kevin explains how these verses, all prophetic when written, have either been fulfilled or will be fulfilled at Jesus’ Second Coming. Although most of the Christian church today rejects Dispensational Theology, which teaches that the Jewish nation will once again be used by God in the future, just as prophesied, in favor of Replacement Theology, which teaches that God has permanently set aside the Jewish people due to their disobedience, we can trust that God means what He says in His Word. Just as all Old Testament prophecies regarding Messiah’s First Coming were literally fulfilled in Jesus 2,000 years ago, we know that the remaining prophecies will be literally fulfilled at His Second Coming. We anticipate the day of which Moses spoke in Deuteronomy 32:43, “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people; for He will avenge the blood of His servants and render vengeance to His adversaries; He will provide atonement for His land and His people.”
Pastor Kevin concluded the series by explaining how the New Testament clearly teaches that Jesus was “The Prophet” of Deuteronomy 18:15. As we approach the end of the Church Age, Pastor Kevin urges those who do not yet believe to receive The Prophet, and believers to trust Him more and more as the Day draws near.

Deuteronomy 32:5-47; Jan 8, 2023; O Foolish and Unwise People
This week, we resume our study of The Song of Moses, Deuteronomy 32. Moses instructed the leaders to teach his song to all generations as a reminder of God’s past works on behalf of the nation as well as warnings that their future rebellion would bring God’s just judgments.
As Moses declares in Deuteronomy 32:5, anyone who rebels against the God of the Bible and Jesus, His Son, does not belong to Him, despite the contemporary mantra in our culture that “we are all children of God.” Pastor Kevin shows how God, throughout the Old and New Testament, God reminds us of His past goodness and pleads with humankind to return and embrace the God Who loves them so much. Yet it has never been more obvious than today, man continues to defy God and His Law, choosing instead to serve themselves and the god of this world, Satan.
However, Moses prophesies that a time will come for God’s people, both Jews and Gentiles, to rejoice, “…for He will avenge the blood of His servants and render vengeance to His adversaries; He will provide atonement for His land and His people” (Deuteronomy 32:43). The Apostle Paul teaches this same truth: “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead" (Acts 17:30-31). Do you belong to God? If you are unsure, please see “Normal” Isn’t Coming Back – Jesus is. Are you Ready? Pastor Kevin warns us that there may not be much time left.

New Year’s Day 2023 Prophecy Update – But You Brethren are not in Darkness, 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
On this New Year’s Day 2023, Pastor Kevin takes a break from our study in Deuteronomy to deliver his annual prophecy update, which focuses this year on how rapidly technological developments and geo-political initiatives are converging to “build” a centralized, universal, surveillance and economic tracking and control system that must be in place to fulfill the Revelation 13 “Mark of the Beast” prophecy. Only a few decades ago, such a global, universal system was unthinkable. Today, it is unfolding before our eyes, which, along with other “signs of the times,” signals the imminent rise of the final, ten-kingdom global government and the antichrist. Pastor Kevin exhorts believers to live soberly, comfort and edify one another with the certain hope of his soon-appearing to take believers to be with him, and to share the gospel while there is still time to do so.

For He will Save His People from Their Sins – Luke 1 and 2; Dec 25, 2022
On this Christmas Day of 2022, Pastor Kevin reviews the chronology of the miraculous virgin birth of Messiah Jesus as recorded in the Gospel of Luke Chapters 1 and 2. These events include the angelic visits to Mary, Joseph, and Zacharias, and the prophesies of Simeon and Anna when Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple to present Him to the Lord as the Law required. All these events would have become widely known throughout the land and, with the prophecies in Daniel about the timing of Messiah’s arrival, should have prepared the people to receive Jesus as their Messiah thirty years later. Instead, the majority rejected Him. Jesus as God knew He would be rejected and suffer a humiliating and cruel execution on a Roman cross in order to atone for the sins of the world. We know from other prophecies in both the Old and New Testament that Jesus will come again. At His Second Coming, Jesus will come not as a suffering Savior but as Savior King to defeat His enemies and avenge His people. Pastor Kevin exhorts us to remember that just as prophecies regarding Jesus’ First Coming were literally fulfilled, so will those about his Second Coming. Do you recognize the signs of the times? Are you ready for Him to return?

For all His Ways are Justice – Deuteronomy 31:17-32:5
Continuing his final address to the Israelites as they prepare to cross the Jordan River and enter the Promise Land, Moses prophesies that once the people become prosperous, they would turn away from God. In response, He would turn away from them “because of all the evil which they have done, in that they have turned to other gods.” History records the ultimate fulfillment of this prophecy, which led to the temporary setting aside of the Jewish people as God’s light to world and the ushering in of a new dispensation, the Church Age, two thousand years ago. However, the Apostle Paul prophesied that the time would come when the church too would turn away from sound doctrine to embrace fables. As we approach the end of the Church Age, Pastor Kevin exhorts us to “be ready in season and out of season” to share the gospel while we still have time.

Deuteronomy 31:1-16, Dec 11, 2022; Be Strong and of Good Courage
Be Strong and of Good Courage – Deuteronomy 31:1-16
S-1518-KL
Having completed the second giving of the Law and nearing the end of his life, Moses concludes Chapter 30 by again exhorting the Israelites to choose life and good instead of death and evil. We have the same choice today in deciding whether to choose or reject Jesus, Who said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
In Chapter 31, Moses emphasizes the importance of obeying the law and encourages them to be strong and of good courage, despite the “giants” they will encounter: “…do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you." God does not change. It is the same God Who promises that He will never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5b). Pastor Kevin exhorts us to do right and let God deal with the giants in our lives as well.

The Love of Jesus - John 13
Today’s topical message by CCPO Elder Dan Prespa focuses on the love of the glorified Jesus as revealed in the Gospel of John, Chapter 13. Dan also emphasized the truth that Jesus is coming soon to take us to be with Him in the rapture of the church. Until then, we are to obey Jesus’ words in John 13:34: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another” (NKJV).

Deuteronomy 29:20-30:20, Nov 27,2022, I Have Set Before You Today Life and Good, Death and Evil
I Have Set Before You Today Life and Good, Death and Evil – Deuteronomy 29:20-30:20, Nov. 27,2022
Deuteronomy 29 concludes with Moses’ prophecy that the nation – the people and the land – would, despite all the warnings of Deuteronomy 28, rebel against God and consequently experience those judgments, including expulsion from the land. History has proven this to be the case. The Jews were expelled from the land on two occasion – By Nebuchadnezzar in 586 B.C. to Babylon and by the Romans in A.D. 70, into a worldwide dispersion. Fulfilled prophecy is proof that the Bible is true!
In Deuteronomy 30, Moses tells the people that God is always ready to restore them to the place of His blessings if “you return to the Lord your God and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul, that the Lord your God will bring you back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where the Lord your God has scattered you” (Deuteronomy 30:2-3). In May 1948, the world witnessed the miraculous return of the Jewish people to their land and as a nation, as prophesied in Ezekiel 36 and elsewhere in the Bible. Although the nation is not yet fully restored, God brought about the re-establishment of Israel: "I do not do this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy name's sake” (Ezekiel 36:22). As these prophecies were literally fulfilled, we know that their prophesied future spiritual restoration will be literally fulfilled someday.
As New Testament believers, we observe (and experience) the same inclination to rebel against God, a curse of the fall. But the same God always stands ready to forgive and restore us when we humbly receive the gift of eternal life through faith in His Son, Jesus.

Deuteronomy 29:1-19, Nov 20, 2022; May There Not Be a Root of Bitterness Among You
Deuteronomy 29 begins with Moses announcing the completion of this second giving of the Law, which, together with the laws given at Mt. Sinai 40 years earlier, completes God’s laws given to the Israelites. Moses then warns the people that pride and rebellion would keep them from heeding the warnings that were intended to keep them from danger.
In the New Testament, Jesus also warned the people of His day that their pride and rebellion would keep them from receiving Him and so they would die in their sins (John 8:24). God calls believers today to warn those we know to humble themselves, repent, and receive Jesus or else they too will die in their sins. Pastor Kevin exhorts us remain faithful to God “that there may not be among you a root bearing bitterness or May There Not Be a Root of Bitterness Among You – Deuteronomy 29-1-19

Deuteronomy 28:58 29:1, November 13,2022; He will Scatter His people Among the Nations
This week, we conclude ur study of the extended portion of Deuteronomy 28 in which God revealed to the Israelites what “…shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today…” (Deuteronomy 28:15).
The warnings listed in the final verses of Deuteronomy 28 include prolonged sicknesses and other plagues leading to drastic depopulation; worldwide dispersion; misery and fear of annihilation of the Jewish race as well as the humiliation of being put up for sale in Egypt as slaves with no buyers. These prophecies were literally fulfilled in the nation’s history. Deuteronomy 29:1 concludes Moses’ second giving of the law, the first being 40 years earlier at Mount Horeb.
Pastor Dustin reminds us again that these warnings / curses were given out of God’s love and compassion for his children. They were disciplines intended to bring the nation to repentance, return, and restoration. The final restoration of the Jewish nation will take place when Jesus returns to set up His 1,000-year rule on earth, a period known as the Millennial Kingdom. In the meantime, Jesus speaks to all of His believers in Luke 11:28b, “…blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

Deuteronomy 28:36-57; Nov 6, 2022; Cursed is the Nation that Shuns God
We continue this week in our study of the extended portion of Deuteronomy 28 in which God revealed to the Israelites what “…shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today…” (Deuteronomy 28:15).
Today’s passage foretold the horrific conditions that would ensue when a nation continued in its rejection of God including societal chaos, defeat in war, crop-destroying insects, siege, severe famine that drove people to cannibalism, and eventual deportation from the Promised Land. Pastor Dustin explains that, according to the “spiritual mathematics” that govern the universe He created, blessings come to a nation that honors and obeys God; increasingly severe curses befall the nation that rebels against Him. Despite these warnings, both the northern and southern kingdoms of Israel fell into idolatry and sexual depravity like the nations around them, and these consequences were literally fulfilled in the history of Israel up to the time of the Assyrian captivity of the northern kingdom in 722 B.C. and the Babylonian captivity of the southern kingdom in 586 B.C.

Deut 28 18 35, Oct 30, 2022; You Have Forsaken Me
Deuteronomy 28:18-35, You Have Forsaken Me
S-1512-KL
This week, we begin examining the extended passage in Deuteronomy 28 in which God revealed to the Israelites what “…shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today…” (Deuteronomy 28:15). In detail, God lists the many things that bring a curse and described their corresponding and increasingly severe "curses” (judgments), with the intent that the Israelites would recognize when they were being judged by God and then repent and return to Him. Pastor Kevin shows how these curses/judgments were realized throughout the history of Israel and how God demonstrated His mercy time and time again in spite of Israel’s repeated disobedience and “the wickedness of your doings in which you have forsaken Me” (Deuteronomy 28:20b).
Although Deuteronomy 28 was written to Israel, not America, these judgments for sin are based on God’s unchanging character. Pastor Kevin shows how these judgments are being realized in our country today, with increasing intensity as our society intensifies its rejection of God and His moral law. Without repentance and a return to the God of the Bible, our country will continue accelerating towards self-destruction. Pastor Kevin exhorts us to remember that America is not our real home; a better, eternal home awaits true believers, those who remain faithful to Jesus despite the increasing darkness of our world.

Deuteronomy 28:1-18; Oct 23, 2022; Obey God - Be Blessed, Disobey - Be Cursed
In this week’s study, Pastor Kevin shows how both the Blessings (for obedience to God) and the Curses (for disobedience) of Deuteronomy 28 were realized in Israel from the time Joshua lead the Israelites across the Jordan River into the Promised Land until their eventual deportations: the northern kingdom, Israel to Assyrian in 722 B.C. and the southern kingdom, Judah, to Babylon in 586 B.C. Although Deuteronomy 28 is not written to the church today, it is written for us, and we see parallels in the history of the United States. Comparing the history of Israel with current events in our country / world, we can expect the rate of decline in our society to only accelerate. However, the believers’ hope lies not in the world but in the soon and “glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13), and Pastor Kevin exhorts us, despite the increasing pressure to do so, “do not turn aside from any of the words which I [God] command you today, to the right or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them” (Deuteronomy 28:14).

Deuteronomy 26:16-27:26, The Lord Has Proclaimed You to Be His Special People
S-1510-KL
This week, we look at final verses of Chapter 26, in which Moses concludes his second imparting of God’s law, this time to a new generation of Israelites about to enter the Promised Land. He exhorts them to obey, as they have promised, and tells them, “The Lord has today declared you to be His people.” As the New Testament reveals, all who believe in Jesus Christ today, even Gentiles, have been adopted into the family of God and are likewise commanded to obey God’s laws.
In Chapter 27, God gives instructions meant to reinforce the importance of the law, including construction of a stone altar and for a ceremony of blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience, which the Israelites were to carry out upon their crossing the Jordan River into the Promised Land. Recent archeological discoveries have documented the biblical account in amazing detail. For more information, see:

Deuteronomy 25:11- 26:15, Oct 9, 2022, Remember What the Amalek Did to You
This week, we look at the final commands in Deuteronomy, which address two men in personal combat; honesty in commerce; God’s judgment of the Amalekites; and the offering of the first fruits.
Considering the cultural context and underlying purposes of these rules, we see how these laws benefited the Jewish people and how they apply to us today. Because of the Law, the Jewish people were miraculously preserved until the birth of Jesus, fulfilling God's promises to Abraham that all the world would be blessed through his family, and until the present day. Of special note, Pastor Kevin shows how the Amalekites are a type of our flesh, which wars against the Spirit of Jesus (Galatians 5:17) and the Feast of First Fruits was a type of Jesus, the first fruits from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:20).

Deuteronomy 25:1-10; Oct 2, 2022; That his Name not be Blotted out of Israel
This week, we look at the civil laws associated with corporal punishment and how widows were to be protected if the husband dies before leaving a son behind to carry on the family’s name and to provide for the mother/widow.
These laws in the first ten verses of Chapter 25 are import to understand the Jewish culture and their impact on Jewish history.
God’s law of corporal punishment was in stark contrast to the American use of incarceration. There were no jails stipulated in God’s law. Therefore, the Jewish culture was not burdened with the taxes associated with paying for jails, guards, and inmates who are given room and board while rarely producing anything of value to the society, or becoming rehabilitated.
Pastor Kevin then takes us to the book of Ruth as an example of God’s compassion when His law protects the widow who is left with no son to carry on the family name. This study also emphasizes how this law set the stage for Jesus being our Second Adam and Kinsman Redeemer.

Deuteronomy 24:5-22; Sept 25, 2022; Children Are Not To Be Put To Death for the Sins of the Parents
This week, we look at the various civil laws in Deuteronomy 22:4-22, which address exemption from military service for newlywed men; laws that protect a person’s privacy and their ability to earn a living; and laws that prohibit oppression of the poor and provide opportunity for them to work for food; the death penalty for kidnapping, which restrained this evil practice in Jewish society. In contrast, today’s justice system is increasingly lax towards criminals, and human trafficking, especially of women and children, has become rampant in our land and throughout the world. Pastor Kevin shows how the law’s requirement to isolate the leprous person applies to us today, not just physically, but spiritually as well since leprosy typifies sin in the Bible. Of special note, Deuteronomy 22:16 clearly states that children are not to be held responsible for the sins of their parents. Pastor Kevin explains, with reference to other verses in the Old and new Testament, that this clear principle belies Augustine's doctrine of “original sin.”

Using King David as an example and Psalm 51 as his text, guest speaker Brian Headrick, Pastor of Calvary Chapel Tacoma, proclaims God’s great mercy, grace, and love towards the repentant sinner. When we acknowledge our sin, recognize our transgression against a holy God, and humbly seek His forgiveness, God completely forgives, renews, and restores us to a right relationship with Him. There is nothing we can do to earn His forgiveness, and there is no one that God cannot forgive!

Deuteronomy 23,17 24,4 Sept 4, 2022, Marriage and Divorce in the Law and New Testament
In today’s message, Pastor Kevin reminds us that while the ceremonial aspects of the mosaic law were fulfilled in Jesus, the civil and moral laws, taking into consideration the cultural context, apply to us today. The principles provide guideposts for living a life and having a society that God can bless and avoid the destruction and misery that always accompanies disobedience. He shows how this applies specifically to the laws concerning prostitution, usury, and vows, which conclude Deuteronomy 23.
Deuteronomy Chapter 24 verses 1-4 address divorce. Scripture is clear that God’s plan for marriage is a union between is one man and one woman, both virgins at marriage and faithful to each other for life. Pastor Kevin addresses the reasons that God’s law allowed divorce under some conditions, discusses the New Testament teachings for believers today, and emphasizes that Jesus will forgive those who divorced outside of God’s provisions as He does any repentant sinner.

Deut 23:1-16, August 28, 2022; Laws to Prevent Destruction from within Israel
Deuteronomy 23:1-8 describes people groups who were to be excluded from the Israelite community, and Pastor Kevin explains how these laws helped preserve Israel from destruction from within. We also see how God later extended His grace to these people, including the Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8) and foreigners, including Ruth, the Moabitess, who is in the lineage of Jesus. In verses 9-14, we see God instructing His people in various rules of hygiene millennia before people understood how human waste and other discharges could spread disease. Both sets of laws helped ensure the continuation of the Jewish race until today. Verses 15 and 16 address compassionate treatment of slaves who have escaped their (in context, foreign) master, a picture of the freedom we receive in Jesus.

Deut 22 13 30, August 21, 2022 God’s Command on the Importance of Virginity
In this week's teaching, Pastor Kevin expounds on the laws governing chastity before and faithfulness during marriage, explaining how these laws preserved the Jews to the present day, whereas most ancient cultures have since died out as a natural result of disease and fertility loss associated with sexual immorality. We also see once more how God's laws protected Jewish (and captive gentile) women and children from violence and abuse, in sharp contrast to the pagan cultures surrounding them. We see how misery and family chaos resulted whenever these laws were ignored. While believers today are not under the mosaic law, we do understand that God's moral law is timeless. A healthy fear of God and knowledge of the consequences of disobedience constrain us to obey for our own good as well as to please God. Pastor Kevin implores the young people to keep themselves pure before marriage so as to receive all that the God intends for them to enjoy with their future life partner.

Of special note, Pastor Kevin shows how Deuteronomy 21:23 applies to Jesus as explained in Galatians 3:11-14

Deuteronomy 21:1-14, August 7, 2022; Provide Atonement O Lord, for Your People Israel
This week, Pastor Kevin expounds on God’s commands in Deuteronomy 21:1-14, which describe how the people are to deal with unsolved murders (v. 1-9) and how they are to treat women taken captive in war (v. 10-14). The time-consuming and costly process for dealing with unsolved murders highlights how much God hates the taking the life of men and women whom He
created in His image. How might our society be different if our leaders took murder as seriously as God does? The washing ceremony, to signify the cleansing and innocence of those who found the body, and sacrifice of a heifer to mark the spot of the slain person both point to Jesus, who was also slain to cleanse us from sin and dead works.
In stark contrast to the customs of that day, and to the present in many cases, God's law protected captive women from the horrible abuses of their conquerors, provided them time alone to mourn their losses, and then allowed them to marry the man and become part of the Jewish community.
