Out & Back On The AT - Carvers Gap to Hump Mtn.
This is a two night backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail starting at Carvers Gap and hiking to Hump Mountain and back. Day one was a very late start, leaving Carvers Gap at 6:00 PM, then taking a side trail up to Grassy Ridge, and camping near Stan Murray Shelter. On the second day I hike to the top of Hump Mountain and then back track to camp near Bradley Gap. Then on day 3 it's back to Carvers Gap.

Smoky Mountans Backpacking: Old Settlers Trail, Maddron Bald Trail, AT, False Gap Prong Bushwack
A six day backpacking trip in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with Joey Coconato and my son Nathan. Starting at Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, we hike Grapeyard Ridge Trail to Greenbrier, then take Old Settlers Trail to Maddron Bald Trail. Continuing on Maddron Bald Trail we climb up to the Appalachian Trail and hike south on the AT to Porters Gap, where we bushwack down False Gap Prong back to Greenbrier.

Smoky Mountains Backpacking: Miry Ridge, AT, Eagle Creek, Gregory Bald
A seven day backpacking trip in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, beginning at Elkmont and taking the Jakes Creek Trail and Miry Ridge Trail to backcountry campsite #26. On day two we continue up the Miry Ridge Trail to the AT and camp at Derrick Knob Shelter. Continuing on the AT over Thunderhead Mountain and Rocky Top, we then take Eagle Creek Trail down to backcountry campsite #97 to camp on day three. On the fourth day we continue down Eagle Creek Trail to Lakeshore Trail and then up Lost Cove Trail and down Twentymile Trail to Long Hungry Ridge Trail to campsite #92. The following day we continue up Long Hungry Ridge Trail to Gregory Bald Trail to campsite #13. On the 6th day we backtrack on the Gregory Bald Trail past Long Hungry Ridge Trail to the AT and then take the AT to Russell Field Shelter to spend the night. The final day we take Russell Field Trail to Anthony Creek Trail to the parking area at the beginning of Cades Cove where we have a second car parked.
This trip totaled 52 miles with about 11,000 of aggregate elevation gain.

Mt Rogers: A 30 Mile Loop (VHHT, 3rd, 2nd & 1st Peaks, AT & Cabin Ridge)
This is a 30 mile, five day backpacking trip in the Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area. Starting on the Fairwood Valley Trail at Virginia Rt. 603, the loop then takes the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail to the Third Peak Trail over Third Peak to First Peak Trail over Second Peak, First Peak and then the Kabel Trail down to Little Wilson Creek. From there the trip climbs up Big Wilson Creek Trail to the Appalachian Trail, to Rhododendron Gap Trail, to the Crest Trail and then back on the VHHT to Cabin Ridge. The hike continues on the Cabin Ridge Trail to Brier Ridge then a bushwhack across the bald to the AT again. After a short distance southbound on the AT, I take the Mt. Rogers Trail to Lewis Fork Spur trail down to the Lewis Fork Trail to Pine Mountain Trail. And finally it's northwest on the Pine Mountain Trail to the AT and then north on the AT back to Virginia Rt. 603.

Smoky Mountains Backpacking: A 40 Mile Loop Across Rocky Top & Miry Ridge
A 40 mile, five day backpacking trip beginning on the Lead Cove Trail to Bote Mountain Trail and then down Anthony Creek to Campsite #9. Day 2 is backup Anthony Creek Trail to Bote Mountain Trail to Spence Field and then the AT to Derrick Knob Shelter. On day 3 the hike continues on the AT to Miry Ridge Trail then down Jakes Creek Trail to Meigs Mountain Trail to Campsite #20. Continuing on the Meigs Mountain Trail to Lumber Ridge Trail through Tremont and then the West Prong Trail, day 4 ends at Campsite #18. The final day the hike continues on the West Prong Trail to Finely Cove Trail back to the Lead Cove Trail Head.

A five day backpacking trip in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park starting at Cataloochee and ending at Cosby. The trip begins on the Pretty Hollow Gap Trail to Campsite #39. Day two continues on the Pretty Hollow Gap Trail to Mt. Sterling Ridge Trail and then a short distance on the Beech Gap Trail to Laurel Gap Shelter. On day three I take the Balsam Mountain Trail to Tricorner Knob Shelter. The fourth day takes the Appalachian Trail to Maddron Bald Trail down to Campsite #29. And on the last day I backtrack up the Maddron Bald Trail to Snake Den Ridge Trail and down to the Cosby Campground.
