Cohutta: Conasauga River & Panther Creek
My son and I start this trip on October 21, 2022 (didn't catch the error in the video until after it was uploaded) at the Betty Gap Trailhead and take the Conasauga River Trail down into Cohutta Wilderness. On day two we continue down Conasauga River Trail and then take Panther Creek Trail up to Panther Creek Falls. Our final day we continue climbing up Panther Creek Trail and then take East Cowpen Trail south to Three Forks Mountain Trailhead.

The Winds: Cirque of Towers, Texas Pass, East Fork
This 7 day backpacking trip with my son started at the Big Sandy Lake Trail Head and followed Trail 099 to Big Sandy Lake and then Trail 098 up to Clear Lake. On day 3 we backtracked to Trail 099 and climbed over Jackass Pass down to Lonesome Lake in the Cirque of Towers. The next day we took an unofficial trail over Texas Pass and down to Billy's Lake, the third lake from Texas Pass. On day 5 we continue down Washakie Creek and then up to May's Lake on Trail 111. Next we go off trail over a small ridge and drop into the East Fork River drainage and downstream to the CDT, then go south on the CDT to Dad's Lake. Our final day we continue south on the CDT to Trail 099 and back to Big Sandy Trail Head.

Naked Ground, Hangover & Haoe Lead: Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Creek Wilderness
A three night backpacking trip in Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Creek Wilderness commencing at Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest and hiking up Naked Ground Trail. On day two the trip continues up Naked Ground Trail then out to Hangover where my son meets me. Tipi Walter comes by our camp on day three and we talk for a couple of hours. After Tipi leaves my son and I decide to camp at Hangover for another night. On day four we take Haoe Lead Trail to the Maple Springs Trailhead and my son drives me back to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest.

Mt Rogers: Lewis Fork, Grayson Highlands, Cabin Ridge Loop
A three night backpacking trip with my son beginning at the Lewis Fork Trailhead and camping along Cliffside Trail the first night. On day 2 we continue up Cliffside Trail to Pine Mountain Trail to Crest Trail to Scales. Then we take the AT over Stone Mountain and camp along Wilson Creek. My son leaves on the morning of day 3 and I continue along the AT through Grayson Highlands State Park then take the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail to Cabin Ridge, where I camp. On day 4 I continue on the VHHT to Deep Gap and cut over to the AT briefly to the Mt. Rogers Trail. Next I take the Lewis Fork Spur Trail to the Lewis Fork Trail and then Cliffside Trail back to the Lewis Fork Trail to the trailhead.

Smoky Mountains Backpacking - Anthony Creek Loop
A two night backpacking trip with Shawn Nichols in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park beginning at the Anthony Creek Trail Head, and then hiking up Anthony Creek to Russell Field Trail to Campsite #10. On day 2 we continue up Russell Field Trail to the Appalachian Trail, then north on the AT. At Spence Field we do an out and back on the AT up to Rocky Top. After returning to Spence Field, we take Bote Mountain Trail to Anthony Creek Trail to Campsite #9. With a long drive home Shawn left at 7:30 AM on the third day, while I stayed at camp. Later I continued down Anthony Creek Trail back to the trail head.

AT - Rocky Fork Loop
A three night backpacking trip beginning at Devil's Fork Gap and hiking south on the Appalachian Trail to Flint Gap. On day two I leave the AT and hike down Flint Creek through Lamar Alexander Rocky Fork State Park to upper Rocky Fork Creek and camp on a ridge line above the headwaters. Day three I continue along the ridge up to the Big Butt Trail and take it to the AT. Then it's north on the AT to a small flat area next to a branch where I make a camp. The final day I continue north on the AT back to Devil's Fork Gap.

NF & SF Citico Creek Wilderness
A three night backpacking trip in Citico Creek Wilderness. My first campsite is on South Fork Citico Creek just upstream from the confluence with the North Fork. On day two it's about half the way up North Fork Citico Creek to an old, existing campsite. The next day backtracks down North Fork to South Fork and then up South Fork to a campsite upstream from Ike Camp Branch. Finally on day three it's the South Fork Citico Trail back to the trail head.

Snow In The Smoky's - Bote Mountain to Elkmont
A three night backpacking trip with my son in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. For me the trip started at the Bote Mountain Trailhead on Laurel Fork Road, with a 1.9 mile hike to campsite #18. On day two we woke up to an unexpected six inches of snow. So we stayed and camped at #18 on night 2. On day 3 we hiked 8 miles to campsite #19 and then on day 4 we hiked out to Elkmont.

Big South Fork: Ranse Boyatt Farm, John Muir Overlook, Maude's Crack
A two night backpacking trip in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area starting at the Terry Cemetery Trail Head and taking Longfield Branch Trail down to No Business Creek. On day 2 it's a visit to Ranse Boyatt Farm, a climb up to John Muir Overlook and back down to camp along No Business again. My son joins me at camp on day 2 and then on day 3 we continue south on the John Muir Trail until we reach the base of Maude's Crack, at which point we climb up the crack to the overlook. Finally we take the Maude's Crack Overlook Trail back to the Terry Cemetery Trail Head.

Smoky Mountains: Road To Nowhere Loop
This is a four night solo backpacking trip in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park beginning at the Noland Creek Trail Head. The first day is a short hike up Noland Creek Trail to Campsite #65 and the second day continues up Noland Creek Trail to Campsite #64. Day three follows the Springhouse Branch Trail over Forney Ridge and drops down to Campsite #71. On the fourth day I hike down Forney Creek Trail then up Bear Creek Trail to Campsite #75. The fifth and final day backtracks down the Bear Creek Trail to Lakeshore Trail with a short road walk back to the Noland Creek Trail Head.

Hailey Pass Loop - The Winds
A six day backpacking trip starting at the Big Sandy Trail Head, hiking the Highline Trail and then off trail up East Fork River. Then continuing off trail up to the Pyramid Trail and taking Hailey Pass Trail over the pass and dropping down to Grave Lake. From Grave Lake we hike the Bear Ears Trail and Washakie Trail over Washakie Pass and down to Dad's Lake. On our last day we take the CDT back to the Big Sandy Trail Head.

Mt Rogers Loop: Iron Mtn., Pine Mtn., AT, Wilburn Ridge, Cabin Ridge
A three night backpacking trip in Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area beginning on the Flattop Trail near Grindstone Campground and climbing up to the Cherry Tree Shelter at the junction with the Iron Mountain Trail. On day 2 it's the Iron Mountain Trail to Hurricane Mountain Trail to the AT up to Pine Mountain. Next I follow the Pine Mountain Trail to Rhododendron Gap, then the AT to Wilburn Ridge Trail to Rhododendron Gap Trail to the Crest Trail and end day 3 on Cabin Ridge. On day 4 I leave Cabin Ridge on the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail to Brier Ridge, then take an unofficial trail up to the AT to the Mt. Rogers Trail back to the original trail head.

Big South Fork NRRA: Laurel Fork, John Muir, John Litton Farm Loop
A three night backpacking trip in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. The trip starts at the Jack's Ridge Loop Trail Head and then down stream on Laurel Fork Creek Trail where we camp. On day two we continue down Laurel Fork Creek Trail to the John Muir Trail and hike south to a campsite on an overlook. My son continues south on the John Muir Trail on day three to Leatherwood Ford where his car is parked, while I go south on the JMT to the Fall Branch Trail to the John Litton Farm Loop Trail and camp next to Fall Branch Falls. On day four I continue on the John Litton Farm Loop Trail to the Bandy Creek Campground and then mostly walk Bandy Creek Road back to the Jack's Ridge Loop Trail Head.

Smoky Mountains Backpacking: Deep Creek, Indian Creek, Deep Low Gap, Mingus Creek
A three night backpacking trip with my son in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We start at the upper Deep Creek Trail Head and hike down to Campsite #53.
On day 2 my son continues down Deep Creek Trail to Pole Road Creek Trail to Nolan Divide Trail to the lower Deep Creek Trail Head and then back up Deep Creek Trail to Campsite #60. I continue down Deep Creek Trail directly to Campsite #60.
A friend of my son joins us at Campsite #60 and then on day 3 they hike several of the short trails in the Deep Creek area and then move my car from the upper Deep Creek Trail Head to the Smokemont Trail Head, while I take Deep Creek Trail to the Loop Trail and up Indian Creek Trail to Deep Low Gap Trail to Campsite #51. My son then backpacks up to Campsite #51 later in the afternoon.
On Day 4 my son does a 2 mile out and back on the Indian Creek Motor Trail and takes Deep Low Gap Trail to Thomas Divide to Campsite #52 where he puts up his tarp and leaves his food. Then he takes Newton Bald Trail to Rt. 441 and moves my car to the Mingus Creek Trail Head and then takes Mingus Creek Trail back up to Campsite #52 where he camps for his 4th night. I take Deep Low Gap Trail to the Mingus Creek Trail and pass my son on my way to the Mingus Creek Trail Head.

Smoky Mountains Backpacking: Rich Mountain Gap to Tremont
A five day backpacking trip with my son in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. For me the trip begins at Rich Mountain Gap and my son starts at Chestnut Top Trail, with both of us staying at Campsite #5 our first night. On day two we hike Indian Grave Gap Trail to Rich Mountain Loop Trail and then up Crooked Arm Ridge Trail and Scott Mountain Trail to Campsite #6, where we meet some friends. The next day we backtrack down the Crooked Arm Ridge Trail to Cades Cove Loop Road and then up Anthony Creek Trail up to Campsite #9. On a rainy day 4 we continue up Anthony Creek Trail to Bote Mountain Trail and then down Lead Cove Trail to Finely Cane Trail back to Bote Mountain Trail and then West Prong Trail to Campsite #18. Our last day we have a short hike out on the West Prong Trail to Tremont.
