Better ways to scoot timbers around

Having a local guy build a 3 panel walnut door for me. I have too many irons in the fire to do it right now. I am supplying him with the material. The rails and styles need to finish at 2 1/4 inches thick and we want them out of a solid piece instead of a glue up. So material that thick and dry is not easy to come by. I still had three consecutive 26" wide walnut slabs that are 2.75" thick that I had dried at the end of last winter. So I had to sacrifice 2 of the slabs because the same half of each slab has a bark inclusion but the other half was pretty clear and quarter sawn. I had chainsaw milled these a handful of years ago. The pieces needed to be jointed and although I don't have a conventional jointer, I have a Woodmizer MP100 planer for my mill track. It acts like a big jointer. I usually use it to true up beams after they've air dried a few years and stabilized. Anyway this works just fine for the bigger material.

I have some bottom bales that have some mold on the bottom. The bales are otherwise good if I cut off 4-5". These are 3x4x8' bales for horses. I'm using a regular cross cut chain, 25" bar, and I switched out the bar oil for soybean oil that we use to lubricate our manure spreader chain. We ratchet strapped the bale with 2 truck straps. Then we cut the 4 strings and lifted the bale with the skid steer bale spear attachment. I checked the length of the spears to make sure I wouldn't hit them with my saw. I had 12 inches of free space(32" spears). I only had to cut off 4-5". No clogging of the saw clutch as I feared. I was cutting across the grain.

Video is a little out of order. You score first, then hew. This video starts with hewing and then shows scoring. The log or timber is scored every 4-5 inches. Then turned on it's side and hew to the snap line.

Darrig engages Moon the boss in some play. He always thinks he should be Boss of the herd, but Moon is the Boss. Moon is a good Boss. Darrig just can't give it up though. Stryke tries to get in on the play as well. I thought the back and forth was best set to the classical music chosen. Enjoy!
