🥶HOW TO KEEP WARM DURING WINTER EMERGENCIES🥶
BlackWater Bushcraft demonstrates how to stay warm in the depths of winter.
Blood flow is extremely important in staying warm. When you are feeling cold it is important to get your heart pumping and your blood flowing. That being said, you do not want to sweat in the winter. Your clothing will absorb the moisture which will in turn make you even colder. Never buy or wear any winter clothing that is restrictive in any way. Keep your boot laces a bit looser than normal and don’t wear too many layers of socks. Too many layers of socks will restrict blood flow, it is much better to wear one decent weight wool pair. You loose body heat the quickest through your wrists, neck and head so bundle up. Wool clothing is king in the winter, it keeps you warm even when wet. When staying warm is a constant battle, every decision you make is crucial to your survival. But when you challenge winter and thrive, it quickly becomes peaceful and cozy. It is like walking through another planet. Big thanks to @TrustinTimberProductions for letting me stick my frozen bare foot in his armpit ha ha ha ha

Bushcraft Friction Fire POV
First person POV of a cedar on cedar bow drill friction fire. All materials besides the paracord were gathered on the spot followed by a seriously delicious Venison steak cooked on the coals with my bush pup Parker. Life is great!

Bushcraft Alternative Bow Drill Friction Fire
Join BlackWater Bushcraft on an adventure where he demonstrates a different take on the bow drill friction fire followed by some chaga tea and a steak on the flames! All materials gathered on the spot using white cedar.
Traditionally you would drill through the grain on the hearth board using the side of the log, but I decided to try drilling with the grain into the top of a very short bucked up log, known as a wood puck. Initially it was hard to keep the puck in position under my foot, but after bowing I found it substantially easier to drill and got an ember on my first try!

Bushcraft Friction Fire in the rain
Bow drill friction fire on a rainy day. All materials gathered on the spot using Black Spruce on Black Spruce and a featherstick tinder bundle. I can't even begin to describe the overwhelming joy and feeling of true independence I get from being one with nature. After living so close with it for all this time, I truly feel equal to the land around me. I am part of its harmony now. I often bushwhack through the Boreal and wonder to myself, am I the first person to walk here? Is this view only being viewed for the first time? To see such stunning scenery and untouched wilderness in person, it could easily bring a tear to your eye.

Bushcraft Winter Friction Fire
Bow drill friction fire using Black Spruce on Black Spruce in -15 Celsius weather. All materials gathered on the spot. This day was a very memorable one for me because while I was gathering all my materials I fell through the ice up past my knees in freezing water. The rush of instant pain was excruciating! Luckily I had all my wools on, and I was able to get an ember and fire on my first try. It is very rare when I find myself in these situations, even in the remote wilderness, but it just goes to show that practicing your skills and keeping a positive mental attitude really can save your life one day, or at least your feet. Sure I had the means to start a fire a lot faster, but through the pain I kept driving on with my friction fire goal. I always burn my friction fire set too, as it forces me to keep practicing with new materials. If you really want to master your friction fire skills, I urge you to do the same too.

Bow Drill Friction Fire
Earning my steak dinner with a bow drill friction fire using Balsam Fir. Fire is the most basic human right. The ability to make it appear like magic, is not. It is earned through years of practice. Poplar inner bark for the tinder bundle.
