NEW YEAR, NEW GEAR!? Here we go again. Another transition point. Another opportunity to turn the ship around and go full speed ahead in the right direction. Towards your Highest-Greatest-Self and the life you were made to live. But... We all know this is easier said than done. In fact, many of you have been saying it for decades of January 1st now, with nothing to show for it. The truth is, turning a ship around is difficult and the older we get, the more habits we accumulate hence the biggger the ship and the more difficult it becomes to change direction. However, please recognize that no ship is too big to change in this Ocean called Life. So, what can you do to power through and not hit the iceburg up ahead? Here's an idea: Use leverage. I always recommend working hard especially in difficult times but I also recommend working smart and leveraging the tools at your disposal. I've always been smart and developed a good reputation for that. In fact, I've achieved a tremendous amount from just creating solutions to complex problems that serve others. Eventually though, from an earning and career perspective I eventually approached a plateau. I kept hitting my head on a ceiling I couldn't see. Turns out that ceiling was the difference between being an idea man and an executionist. Why? Because it aint real until it's done. The idea itself doesn't provide value to anyone. Do you understand that? Great. Now, let me give you some extra sauce - Being able to execute on your own will bring a multitude of rewards however it is not the highest form. Learning to execute through people by leading and creating accountability will reap you exponentially more rewards. Words are much more powerful than most people think. They can be used to describe but also create. They can create impressions, mathematical models, emotions and even personalities. They can change you or at least have you believe you're someone that you're not. Which then leads you to becoming someone that you weren't. First things first, be careful of the words you use on yourself - they will destroy you. But also, be careful of the words people use on you - they can define you and lock you away in their little box. Now obviously, you don't decide the words that come from people's mouths. However, you do decide whether you grow or whether you self-reflect or ultimately whether you KNOW YOURSELF. Knowing yourself is the shield from all the words heading your way.
