Midwifery and the Sacredness of Birth with Whapio Diane Bartlett
Welcome to the 27th episode of the Back to Human Podcast.
On this episode we explore the world of midwifery and what birth can look like outside of conventional medicine. During Jade’s pregnancy, we elected to have an assisted home birth with a midwife. Things did not go as planned for us and Jade was transferred to the hospital where she was able to give birth to Jax, vaginally and unmedicated. Reflecting back on Jade’s pregnancy and labor, it seemed there was many tests, screenings and even coaching that may have been unnecessary and perhaps even harmful.
For this interview I had the pleasure of speaking with Whapio Diane Bartlett. Whapio has been an Independent Midwife for 42 years, practicing and teaching about the consciousness of birth. Whapio believes, “The way we give birth is a mirror of our maturity on this planet. If we understood the magnitude of birth and our potential for transformation through birth we would organically raise our level of consciousness and all the inappropriate things we do would just disappear.”
Some of the topics we discuss on this include:
• Whapio’s introduction to midwifery
• What is a midwife?
• The difference between clinical and independent midwifery
• What do women want in a pregnancy?
• Who should you be giving birth with?
• What is an undisturbed birth?
• The role of the father in birth
• The vagina being a portal
• The male manifesto of birth
• How can we collaborate with hospital staff?
• Should women push during labor?
• What is the illusion of choice in holistic midwifery?
• How birth is a rite of passage and this has been taken away from women
• What tests & screenings are actually necessary throughout pregnancy?
• How can women find an independent midwife?
Thank you for the listening to the show! I’d love to hear your feedback and would much appreciate you sharing this episode with someone you believe would benefit from hearing it!

Project Airway: How Your Facial Anatomy Impacts Your Ability To Breathe
Welcome to the 26th episode of the Back to Human podcast.
On this episode I have the pleasure of chatting with Greg Mc Lean of Project Airway. Greg has been a trainer for the past 25 years and is the co-founder of Premier Fitness Systems in Scottsdale, Arizona. While perceivably, “having it all”, Greg suffered from brain fog and felt off mentally. After having an MRI scan of his brain which eventually led to a diagnosis of Celiac’s disease and later CTE, Greg found no real resolution to his issues despite spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on different protocols, testing and supplementation. It wasn’t until he dove into airway health that he finally found some relief.
On this episode we discuss:
• Greg’s journey to studying airway health
• Why our jaws are so small now and why the furniture (our tongue and teeth) no longer fit
• Why breastfeeding is so important for optimal jaw development and how it teaches babies to nasal breathe
• How bottle feeding creates a deficit for optimal breathing
• How can we potentially correct this deficit?
• Why is it so important to nasal breathe?
• How should our tongue sit on our palate?
• What is a tongue tie?
• How a forward head posture limits your ability to use your diaphragm
• What are some of the least invasive methods to increase our intermolar width?
• Implementing breathwork in training
• What would be some contraindications for mouth taping at night?
• How you can't buy your health back

Welcome to the 15th episode of the Back to Human podcast.
On this episode I am joined by the Queen of Psoas! Liz Koch joins me to discuss what is commonly referred to as the muscle of the soul, the psoas. Liz is an international teacher with 43 years of experience working with the psoas. She is the creator of Core Awareness and is the author of "The Psoas Book" and "Stalking Wild Psoas". This was a very fun conversation for me and I honestly had a bit of difficulty coming up with just the right questions for this one because there is so much to be explored here!
Among some of the topics we discuss on this podcast are:
• How Liz got started with her research of the psoas.
• The psoas is way more than just a muscle! It is an intelligent messenger and the center of our being.
• Has modern day footwear knocked us off-center?

• What is constructive rest position (CRP)? • How can we hydrate a "dry" psoas? • Play!
I highly recommend checking out Liz's online workshops as well as her books which can be found at
