Yep. This was our day. Nothing exciting.

Breezy was convinced he was gonna get a bite. From my cold, dead, hands! Finished two neck knives, worked on a thin caddo, cut out 5 dinner skinners.

We had a concerning break in attempt at a home very close to ours. When you’ve grown up in an era when most folks didn’t lock their doors and would leave their car keys in the ignition, it’s very hard to train your brain to believe that your neighbors could break into your home. This guy who was caught on the ring camera had a big knife in his hand, so it’s obvious he intended to harm the people if he had in fact gained entrance to their home. The sad fact is, the world has changed significantly and is older folks have to understand that we are no longer living in the days when trust and decency once existed.

Didn’t get much done today. Got a knife shipped and two neck knives cleaned up and handles put on.

Nothing but hummingbirds.

The planer worked great and it’s going to solve a lot of pin alignment problems Ive had with wood that wasn’t square. Got 8 neck knives sanded, heat treated, and into the tempering oven.

Hands wouldn’t cool with the sandpaper. I’ll try again tomorrow.

Mounted my new Bauer 8 inch buffer to the bench. Moved another buffer to another station and then did the dirtiest job in the shop, cleaned the wheels. I was so dirty after that, I came home to take a shower.

I tried my hand at basket weave for the third time. I’m very happy with how this turned out.

I thought all was lost when I screwed up the end of the wood. With age, and a life time of screwing up, you also have a large bag of work-around you can pull from. This knife came out far our tier than I expected, in fact it’s already sold.

I feel so guilty and ashamed.

These harbor freight blades dulled within a couple inches of cutting. These are the worst blades I’ve ever bought. Got a dinner skinner started and it’s gonna be downright bodacious with the desert ironwood.

Just more pontificating and wood watching.

The new way is a lot more work, and far more time-consuming, but it pays off in a much better-looking finished sheath.
