This buck must have broken off one of his antlers earlier in the year. He has a full grown antler and the other one has not grown out fully.

I did a little research and found that this is a Giant Leopard Moth Caterpillar (Hypercompe scribonia) – Black Fuzzy Caterpillar I encountered on a hike.
