Generally, Monday trading sessions in the summer are usually light volume buoyant days. That looks to be what we have today. 2. This coming Wednesday is the highly anticipated FOMC rate decision. This time around it looks as if the Fed will raise rates by 25 basis points. This hike is baked into the cake already so the verbiage will be important. Currently, the fed funds rate is around 5.0% - 5.25%. This is above the 2-year note yield which is currently at 4.85%. Should the 2-year yield catch up to the fed funds rate or surpass it then that is when the big problems come for the stock market. Right now, the markets seem convinced that the Fed will pause or even cut rates soon. I do not believe that will be the case if that 2-year yield spikes again. 3. Earnings season heats up this week. There will be earnings releases from MSFT, GOOG and META. Besides this mega-cap stock there are also lots of important names reporting. Buckle up! $TLSA has had an amazing run. We sat down with Prospera Energy’s (🇺🇸GXRFF -- 🇨🇦PEI) CEO Samuel David and VP of Subsurface -- George Magarian for an update. Prospera is one of our largest holdings. Their primary focus now is their 18 well drill program, consisting of 8 slanted/vertical wells and 10 horizontal wells. All the pieces are in place to commence its Phase 2 drill program, which will start by August 15 and commence rapidly from there. VP Magarian has put in over 36 years as a petroleum geologist and is an expert in Western Canada geology. He’s worked for many major producers. He has high expectations for the program. The new wells are in existing fields so risk is extremely low. He expects an 80 to 90 percent success rate. In his opinion, these wells will produce at least 60-100 barrels per day.The resulting increased production will kick-in in Q3. This added to August’s 1250 BOE will substantially increase production and cash flow. For 2022 the company reported record cash flow of C$5.4 and upon completion of its Phase 2 program, 2023 could go much higher. It has upped its working capital and cash position so it can comfortably finance increased production. The company has also been helped by $75 oil. Finally, CEO David discussed the company’s anticipated acquisition. It is in active talks to take over an existing field and is negotiating the exact scope of acquired assets and liabilities. Precious metals have had a monster week to the upside. This is primarily due to the epic decline in the US Dollar Index. Bitcoin futures are stalling out a little today, but the chart remains constructive for more upside in the near term. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, was also up 0.2% month-over-month consensus was 0.3%, which was the smallest month-over-month change since August 2021. This puts the Fed rate hikes on hold if they want at the next meeting. Maybe they raise once more in July and signal they are done after that. Either way, the 2-year yield is dropping to 4.76% and that gives the Fed some wiggle room as long as the Fed funds rate is above the 2-yr yield. Tomorrow morning the PPI report will be released at 8:30 am ET. Lets see the reaction to that number. 2. Today's rally is broad based with the exception of health care stocks. Companies such as United Health (UNH), Cigna (CI), and Humana (HUM) are under pressure. This industry group has been struggling for the past several months and remains under pressure. 3. Gold is catching a solid pop this morning trading higher by 1.17%. Silver is up 3.7%. Nick’s upside is 25. It looks like the precious metals are showing strength today as yields retreat and the US dollar falls. There is talk of a BRICS gold backed currency coming. This could keep a bid in the precious metals should that start to happen. 4. Bitcoin is flat today, but the chart pattern remains constructive for more upside.

This week will be interesting as we get the CPI report on Wednesday and the PPI report on Thursday. Every trader and investor will be looking for signs of inflation. Remember, the FOMC (Fed) will hold their interest rate policy meeting on July 26th. As I have said before, the most important metric is going to be the reaction in the 2-year treasury note yield. Today, the 2year note yield is around 4.92%. Last week, this got above 5% and that spooked the markets as it indicates the Fed is behind the curve when it comes to hiking the fed funds rate. Every investor should keep a close eye on the 2 year yield. 2. Earnings season starts up later this week with JP Morgan Chase (JPM) and the many other financial stocks. Remember, my theory is that the rally from March has been because of the financial crisis. Obviously, liquidity programs by the central banks help to lift markets. 3. Gold and silver are flat today. Both were very choppy and range bound last week. There still looks like a potential bearish pattern is forming in the precious metals, but it wont take a lot to change that. I'm just continuing to let things unfold, but i'm itching to get back into silver related plays soon. 4. Bitcoin has been strong recently and that still remains the case. The commercial money has switched back to the long side so I'm continuing to give bitcoin an upside bias in the near term.
