Hiking the Enchantments in the Cascade mountains of Washington state, you will frequently encounter mountain goats. Wonderful creatures, but don't get too close. A headbutt from one of these beasts and they'll be helicoptering you out of there.

Perhaps I shouldn't have done this trail. Things started well, but as you'll see in the video, the trail up was challenging and too risky to go back down. This is the view of the valley that I-90 runs through as I was hiking up Putrid Pete's Peak trail.

This hike is a bit of a thigh burner. In just over four miles you'll gain 3,8000 feet in elevation. However, the views are worth it. The reason they built a fire watch station at the top of Granite Mountain, is because on a clear day, you have a 360-degree view of the Cascade mountains for miles. I was fortunate on this trip to be given a tour of the fire watch station, so make sure to watch to the end. This was also the first time I used my new hiking umbrella and with the temperature hitting 95F it made a huge difference. Much cooler with it. If you live in Washington or Oregon, I recommend a hike at Mt St. Helens. There's plenty of trails with varying hiking difficulty ratings to choose from, in this case I hiked to Loowit Falls. This was a hike like no other. The landscape, still not recovered from the eruption over 30 years ago, the terrain, the ground itself and the mountain, were dramatic and memorable. One of the harder hikes I've done. Starts out easy along an old logging dirt road that nature has partially reclaimed. In the video, you'll see where the trail branches off and starts becoming a little more challenging. At the juncture of Mason Lake and Bandera Mountain, the trail becomes significantly more challenging. For every two feet on the trail, you gain one foot of elevation. Once I cleared the cloud cover, the views of Mt. Rainier were incredible. I continued on past Little Bandera Peak to the proper peak of Bandera, (some bushwhacking involved, the trail is a little sketchy) and had lunch enjoying a million-dollar view of Mt. Rainier.
