It follows a visit to Israel by the US President Joe Biden.
Hamas said the pair were freed for "humanitarian reasons".
They were the first captives released since the gunmen raided Israel on 7 October, killing 1,400 people and taking around 200 hostages.
More than 4,000 people have since been killed in Israeli air and artillery strikes in Gaza, according to Palestinian officials.

French President Macron visits Israel in solidarity visit – BBC News
French President Emmanuel Macron has paid a visit to Israel, where he said the “first objective” in the conflict should be to secure the release of those held hostage by Hamas.
Speaking alongside Israel's President Isaac Herzog, the French leader said Israel's duty was to fight against Hamas "without, I would say, enlarging this conflict".
He's the latest European leader to head to Israel for a show of support - as well as joining in the international pressure to get hostages freed.
But, with France home to the biggest Jewish and Muslim populations in Europe, President Macron is facing pressures domestically for its position in the conflict.

Gaza: UN says Gazans heading back north despite Israeli warnings - BBC News
Some people who fled northern Gaza after Israeli forces told them to leave are now heading back, says the head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.
Thomas White from the UNRWA tells the Today programme on BBC Radio 4: "It's very dangerous in the north but people are losing their lives in the south as well."
White said 8,000 people were taking shelter in his organisation's warehouse complex and surviving on just one litre of water a day and small amounts of bread.
Palestinian officials in the Hamas-run health ministry said 436 people have been killed in Gaza since yesterday morning - taking the total to more than 5,000 since 7 October, they said.

Israel says military campaign in Gaza may last months - BBC News
Israel’s Defence Minister Yoav Gallant says the military’s campaign in Gaza “may take a month, two or three, but at the end there will be no more Hamas".
Gallant was speaking after operational briefing at the Israeli Air Force Operations Command and Control Centre.
“In terms of the operational aspects of manoeuvring, at the end of the day, nothing will stop the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)", he said.
“This should be our last manoeuvring operation in Gaza, for the simple reason that afterwards there will be no more Hamas.”
The minister also said the next stage, a widely-anticipated ground operation, “will come soon” - but how soon remains unclear.
