A university think tank led by "antiracism" guru Ibram X. Kendi is slashing a third of its workforce, the latest in a string of layoffs to hit left-wing activist groups. The Boston University Center for Antiracist Research is firing between 15 and 20 employees, Semafor reported Thursday. Kendi launched the center in June 2020 at the height of the movement to defund police in the wake of the death of George Floyd. It employed 45 people as of August, according to a since-deleted page on the center’s website reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon. Disney gave up and is giving Charter / Spectrum access to it's streaming services as they demanded, Disney+ and ESPN+ right now as well as the future ESPN direct to consumer service (even though it doesn't actually exist yet)! Disney has never had to capitulate like this to cable customers before it's a historic change in the power dynamic between entertainment programmers and distributors. Disney's cable customers are competitors and they have HAD IT with Bob Iger. John Malone, cable industry veteran is using Charter Communications to break Disney's ESPN-anchored cable bundle, eliminating billions of dollars and important leverage from Disney's ability to negotiate with ALL cable providers. Malone also owns a huge stake in Disney competitor Warner Brothers Discovery and this move has already greatly damaged Disney's ability to dictate terms to cable providers. Also we have Brian Roberts owner of Comcast, the biggest cable provider in the US telling Disney to settle with Charter, and it's going to be on terms that will almost immediately directly benefit Comcast. Comcast also has the additional leverage of their upcoming multi-billion dollar negotiations with Disney over their 1/3 stake in Hulu which Roberts has suggested is worth at least $15 to $20 billion. Disney's second largest cable customer, Charter Communication REFUSES to pay Disney for ESPN and their other cable channels. They demand a NEW DEAL reflecting a more realistic rate for their content given ONLY 25% of their cable customers actually watch any of Disney's content. The cable company does not want to risk their customer relationships anymore by overcharging customers for content they don't use.
