Today we installed apple trees and I talk about the various means of protections, in addition to the deer fence. Young fruit trees in the wild have many natural allies that aren’t all available or fully understood. In a wild agroforest system, we try to assist the cultivars while not intervening so much as in an organic orchard system. Welcome to 369 Soul Farm! In this lovely headless video I show what a freshly turned compost pile looks like while displaying the newly built compost bin. I used an old pallet from the barn and some scrapwood to construct the bin with hammer and nails. The leaves are about to be loaded into the leaf bin for the season, and used to cover every bucket of kitchen scraps added to the pile. It’s important to add leaves, dead grass or grass clippings, carboard scraps, paper scraps or similar carbonaceous material at a ratio of 50/50 to keep the nitrogenous fruit and vegetable scraps composting as desired while also preventing bugs and/or animals from scavenging the pile. Oh and dont forget to have some fun turning the pile to keep it aerated! Cheers to regenerative living and the earthworm’s eye view!

In this video we discuss some contemporary permaculture concerns, and I wax a bit on the process and outlook of building the food forest. In this short video, I demonstrate the seemingly simple idea of removing bark from the bottom 3 feet of my black locust deer fence posts. After trial, error and subsequent study, I learned to remove the bottom 3 feet of bark as soon as possible while the inner layers were still moist. The method involves hammering to loosen innner bark layers, and removing in sheets. Boring, but quite useful if you’re building a fence out of freshly harvested timber, and want to avoid fence rot below the ground. Black Locust is the 2nd hardest wood in North America, and removing the bark is not easy. Today after setting up 1200 jiffy pots, we began seeding each one with at least 2 seeds each pod. I go over why 2 and briefly display the seeding method I’m using. It remains to be seen how well these Organite charged seeds perform.

After initially attempting to split with a pair of axe and a hatchet, I revert back to old fashion chainsaw technology to draw a line down the top. After 7 days of a mock-up copper pyramid/Organite pyramid hybrid charge session, we remove the seeds to air out for 48 hours before planting indoors.
