John School for Sex Buyers
Former sex addict states, as a child "I became addicted to pornography which in turn lead me to a sex addiction and numerous marriages that ended in divorce. After my third divorce and strained relationships with my children, I enrolled in a 12 step program to which I credit my recovery. I now dedicate my life to sharing my experiences and helping other sex addicts who are court ordered to attend one of the few John’s Schools offered in the United States in San Diego, California.”
Chief Deputy City Attorney Lara Easton is proud that San
Diego has one of the few John Schools in the country. “John School” is required for first time sex offenders. Educating Johns is one of the ways to reduce the demand for sex and prostitutes. Trafficking experts believe demand reduction is one of the most efficient ways to deal with sex trafficking.
Kathi Hardy is a survivor of the sex industry. Her focus is in ending the demand. Hardy is now the director of Freedom from Exploitation and a peer advocate who educates and reforms men who have been arrested for buying sex.

Survivor Talks with Experts on Sex Trafficking
Our Panel of experts in human trafficking discuss their work and what is needed for a call of action against global sex trafficking. Professor Kelly Galindo (Director of "26 Seconds" documentary), Pastor Kevin Brown (Harbor Outreach), DDA Bradley Schoenleben (DDA Attorney of O.C.), Professor Sandra Morgan PhD (Vanguard University), and survivor advocate Oree Freeman.
Coming from a broken home, Oree was raped at 10-years-old and ran away from home. By the time she was 11-years-old, she was groomed and became a victim of the sex trade, falling into a vicious cycle between going to juvenile hall and falling back into sex trafficking. After four years she was able to leave that life with the help of Orangewood Children's Foundation. She has since graduated from high school and is currently attending college. Freeman says the collaboration with authorities to bring about change is critical. She also says it takes a community effort to help fight the issue by looking out for young girls who are victims of the industry and are forced into it. Oree is now a survivor advocate.

Professor Kelly Galindo (Director of "26 Seconds" documentary), Pastor Kevin Brown (Side by Side Church & Harbor Outreach), Pastor Doug Bennett (Magdalene Hope), Brenda Jimenez (Refuge for Women), and survivor advocate Melissa Whiteman.
Kidnapped at 13
Melissa was born and raised in Orange County, California in a very abusive home. As a young girl, she was kidnapped, trafficked, and forced to use drugs as a means of control. Unable to escape the mental torture she endured, she ended up working on the streets of Los Angeles to support her crack habit. Now, Melissa is a survivor advocate speaking up for victims of the sex trade.

Trafficked Transgenders
Trafficked Transgenders
Transgenders who have crossed the Tijuana border into the United States to escape persecution in their homeland are at a high risk of being exploited. They are often in desperate need of money, unable to earn a living or speak English, and a fear of going to the police makes them easy prey for sex traffickers and pimps. Their stories are similar, oftentimes molested by their relatives at a young age only to be shunned by family & society for their sexuality. Transgenders’ customers include a wide range of people and professionals, such as police officers, military, lawyers, professional businessmen, and usually married men.
Due to discrimination in many jobs and industries, transgenders often have no choice but to turn to alternative ways to make money. This includes drugs, commercial sex and other criminalized work. People from all walks of life can become a victim of human trafficking but one of the biggest factors that all victims share is vulnerability. The unique obstacles faced by transgender individuals make them susceptible to exploitation because these factors can engender a willingness to do whatever is necessary for survival.
La Maestra (Spanish for the teacher), has been dedicated to its mission to
provide quality health care and education to improve the overall well being of low-income and immigrant residents. Bringing the underserved and ethnically diverse communities into the mainstream of society through effective change culturally and linguistically respecting the dignity of all patients. La Maestra has grown into an award-winning health organization and has provided immigrants and transgenders medical services, education and a place of refuge and support.

Boys Are Trafficked Too
Survivor Leader Network - Freedom From Exploitation founder Kathi Hardy is a recovering addict and a survivor of the sex industry. She has been sober and out of "the life" since 1993. Since that time she has dedicated much of her time helping those who were in the same situation. Since her recovery, she participates in San Diego's "Prostitution Impact Panel" which has seen over 1,600+ sex-buyers, with a 3.5% recidivism rate.
Kathi started the Survivors of the Streets (SOS) group, which the City Attorney's office uses as a First Offender Diversion Program for adults who were picked up for prostitution (647b) activities. Currently she does groups at Las Colinas Women’s Detention, County Jail and has seen approximately 107 women who have been exploited. Of the 1,004 (SOS) participants, 51% could be construed as victims of Human Trafficking. She currently does groups at Alabaster Jar Project a program and teaches Beyond Trauma and Betrayal Bonds. She also currently does groups at La Jolla Recovery for women who have been exploited and teaches “Ending The Game” a curriculum written by human trafficking survivors for human trafficking survivors.
She also has done groups at the Girl's Rehab. Facility at Juvenile Hall for both CSEC and high at-risk girls. She has seen 408, 14 of which were at-risk and the rest CSEC victims, with the goal to reeducate them so they may lead healthier lifestyles.
Tom Jones is the founder and director of The H.O.P.E. Project, which works to assist men and boys in their journey of recovery from human trafficking and molestation. H.O.P.E. stands for Healing Outreach and Peer Empowerment. He is engaged in the effort to reduce the demand for prostitution and the sexual exploitation of men, women, and children. He is also a proud leader of the Survivor Leader Network of San Diego.
Tom was 6 when his dad molested him for the very first time. He was born and raised in Central Missouri, that’s where his abuse took place. Years later, Tom found himself in the world of prostitution and in San Diego's red light district.
Tom hopes his outreach efforts will inspire other male survivors to “Speak up and speak out,” because boys and men don't talk about their experiences, molestation and being sex trafficked.

US Legislation Laws on Child Sex Trafficking
Kidnapped at 13
Melissa was born and raised in Orange County, California in a very abusive home and as a young girl was kidnapped, trafficked and forced to use drugs as a means of control. Months after her abduction, she escaped by jumping out of a vehicle while on the freeway, a full blown addict. Not able to escape the torture she endured, she ended up on the streets of Los Angeles, in gang infested areas and worked the streets of Figueroa to support her crack habit. In and out of jails and foster homes. Now Melissa is a survivor advocate.
John Richmond was a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice, and prosecuted numerous victim-centered labor and sex trafficking cases throughout the United States. He frequently serves as an expert on human trafficking for the United Nations. In 2018 President Trump appointed him to lead the United States’ global engagement to combat human trafficking and support the coordination of anti-trafficking efforts across the U.S. government. He co-founded the Human Trafficking Institute that exists to decimate modern slavery at its source by empowering police and prosecutors to use victim-centered and trauma-informed methods to hold traffickers accountable and ensure survivors are treated with respect and care.
The Honorable Judge Maria Hernandez was appointed Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Court for Orange County on January 1, 2014 where she served until January of 2018. During her nine years as a juvenile court judge, she created and presided over the dedicated court addressing commercially sexually exploited children (GRACE-Generating Resources to Abolish Child Exploitation) and co-chaired the Orange County Committee relating to Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC). Judge Hernandez also created and presided over an innovative collaborative court for dedicated to boys in the child welfare system back in 2010 which continues to meet the needs of highest risk system involved youth.
Congressman Ed Royce was selected to serve as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he leads Congressional oversight of the Administration’s foreign policy and works on issues such as: sanctions on state sponsors of terror, fighting the poaching of endangered species, and advocating for the victims of human trafficking. He delivered the following remarks: “Human trafficking is modern day slavery that continues to devastate the lives of tens of millions of people around the world. The perpetrators of these disgusting acts prey on the vulnerable and defenseless, including young children. These are not just faraway crimes, but also occur right here in the United States. The U.S. Congress enacted Megan's Law in 1996 as an amendment to the existing Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children's Act.

Sex Trafficking in Las Vegas
SEX TRAFFICKING HAPPENS IN LAS VEGAS!
TRIGGER WARNING SUICIDE
Annie Lobert is an American former call girl and sex industry worker, who founded the international Christian ministry Hookers for Jesus. Lobert believes that when a child doesn't know or understand what love looks like from a parent, they look for love in all the wrong places. This is what happened to Annie who needed, like every child, to hear words of encouragement, but instead, was told by her dad the exact opposite.
Eventually, Annie experienced more than a decade of sex trafficking in Hawaii, Minneapolis and Las Vegas. Here she recounts her experience as a victim of sex trafficking, while sharing an overview of the primary and secondary harmful effects of involvement in the sex industry.
Sex trafficking happens in Las Vegas. Annie Lobert, survivor advocate and founder of Hookers For Jesus rescues and restores victims/survivors from the sex trade. For over a decade, Annie Lobert has worked to save women from the unrelenting grip of sex trafficking through her organization, Destiny House. Please educate yourself on human and sex trafficking. It is real and it is happening everywhere, LAS VEGAS INCLUDED!

Sex Trafficking in Orange County
Sex trafficking is the most profitable in Orange County, California. The Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force is fighting to prosecute traffickers and Johns; those who buy children and women.
Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force (OCHTTF) takes a proactive approach to protecting women and minors from the cruel clutches of pimps who force them into lives of degradation, often by exploiting their status as runaways or their troubled pasts as victims of sexual abuse. Although formed in 2004, it wasn’t until 2014 that OCHTTF became a fully operational, multijurisdictional task force led by Sergeant Juan Reveles, a veteran Anaheim PD officer. OCHTTF is committed to combating all forms of human and sex trafficking through the rescue and long-term support of victims, prosecution of offenders, training of fellow law enforcement professionals, community awareness and effective public and private partnerships.

Sex Trafficking in LA
Human trafficking is among the world's fastest growing criminal enterprises and is estimated to be a $150 billion-a-year global industry. It is a form of modern day slavery that profits from the exploitation of our most vulnerable populations. One common misconception is that human trafficking requires movement across borders. In reality, it involves controlling a person or group through force, fraud, or coercion to exploit the victims for forced labor, sexual exploitation, or both. This can occur entirely within a single country or it can cross borders. Human trafficking strips victims of their freedom and violates our nation's promise that every person in the United States is guaranteed basic human rights. It is also a crime. Attorney General's Office is focused on combating the pervasive issue of human trafficking in California and has made it one of his top priorities.
The International Labor Organization estimates that there are more than 24.9 million human trafficking victims worldwide at any time. This includes 16 million victims of labor exploitation, 4.8 million victims of sexual exploitation, and 4.1 million victims of state imposed forced labor. The victims of human trafficking are often young girls and women. Young girls and women are 57.6% of forced labor victims and 99.4% of sex trafficking victims.
LAPD Human Trafficking Unit is responsible for the investigation and enforcement of state and federal crimes involving the sexual exploitation of human beings; reduce the vulnerability of children to acts of sexual criminal activity and strengthen the capabilities of federal, state and local law enforcement through training programs and investigative assistance. Together we can raise awareness of the non-profit organizations, crisis intervention teams, committed law enforcement and dedicated citizens fighting to eradicate global sex trafficking. Sheriff Jim McDonnell works with NGO Forgotten Children and many others to rescue children from the sex trade.

Human Trafficking in the Air
DID YOU KNOW? THE US STATE DEPARTMENT'S STATISTICS SHOW THAT OVER 700,000 PEOPLE BECOME SUBJECTS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND CROSS INTERNATIONAL BORDERS EVERY YEAR. A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THOSE VICTIMS AND PERPETRATORS ENTER THE COUNTRY THROUGH MAJOR U.S. AIRPORTS, UNDER STRICT SECURITY, YET THEY GO UNNOTICED.
Airline Ambassadors International is a non-profit organization affiliated with the United Nations and recognized by the US Congress. Nancy Rivard founded AAI to provide for orphans and vulnerable children in 1996 while working as a international flight attendant for American Airlines. She retired in 2013 to run Airline Ambassadors full time. AAI is the only non-profit organization leveraging connections with the airline industry to facilitate humanitarian efforts. Since correctly identifying human trafficking on four flights in 2009, AAI developed the first “industry specific” training on human trafficking awareness that has been provided at 50 airports, travel hotels which are major hubs of entry and exit for perpetrators and victims alike.
In August 2009, an Airline Ambassador humanitarian team rescued an abandoned little girl in Cambodia. On that trip they learned about the dark reality of human trafficking. The following month on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic the team was on alert for anything unusual on flights out. Amazingly, that team correctly identified trafficking incidents on four airlines. Their first tip led to the bust of a pornography ring of 82 children. Airline Ambassadors International then worked closely with Customs Border Protection to develop an industry specific training consistent with the Department of Homeland Security.
Airline Ambassadors International has provided training presentations to 6,000 front line personnel at airports across the United States and also internationally. Airline Ambassadors International now provides seminars with a team of three to four trainers including survivors of human trafficking. The training is tailored to airline and airport personnel, hotel employees, law enforcement and ground transportation. Airline Ambassadors is the first non-profit organization to have their curriculum adopted by the International Tourism Management Institute and has also received support from 12 members of Congress.
Human trafficking is an appalling crime and an appalling violation of victims' rights. This is why the efforts of the international air transport sector in combating it are so important. This expansion of training for cabin crew and the wider travel industry is a crucial element in protecting the human rights of some of the most vulnerable people.

Message from Producer/Director Kelly Galindo: 26 Seconds
Message from Director Kelly Galindo:
“Film is my commitment to creating work that matters in our world,” Galindo said. “I wanted to film a documentary on global sex trafficking because it is a fast-growing and horrific industry that tragically affects every child and woman worldwide. We can either do something or nothing. I simply chose to do something with the resources and creative talent I possess and have access to as a professor in film. As a filmmaker, my intention was to tell the story. It was not possible to tell the story of human trafficking unless I visited the countries and met the victims trapped in the sex trade face-to-face – the pimps and madams who sell them, and the johns who buy them – but the true heroes are the nonprofit organizations that rescue, restore, and reintegrate these innocent children. Creating awareness is not enough; a call to action is ALL of our responsibility. It will not only take an army of heroes but also a village of ordinary people like you and me.” If you feel inclined to support the 26 Seconds project, please click the following link:

Theme Songs For 26 Seconds Doc
26 Seconds theme songs, titled '26 Seconds' and 'Right Here in the USA'. Lyrics written by Kelly Galindo and music produced and performed by Shanti Re'. Special thanks to Shanti Re' for giving a voice to the voiceless.
Shanti Amana-Re Harris found her passion and love for music at an early age. She loves an array of genres including soul, jazz, R&B, rock, new age, reggae, and electronic music. Shanti developed an interest in music production a few years after graduating from college and discovered she had a love for audio engineering and experimentation with music production software. Shanti became self-taught producer/singer-songwriter and hopes to inspire young girls that they too can mix
