Ancient china worst execution..
In Ancient China, there was a form of execution called waist chop. Just like its name, it entails a person being literally chopped in half from the waist. It was reserved only for the most serious criminals since many people did not die immediately after being chopped.
In Qing Dynasty, an official was caught embezzling money, and was sentenced to waist chop. However, he stayed alive long enough to write, using his blood, the Chinese character ‘慘’ (horrific/brutal) 7 times before finally dying.
Upon hearing this story, the Yongzheng Emperor was shocked and abolished the form of execution.

Vesna Vulović (Serbian Cyrillic: Весна Вуловић, pronounced [ʋêsna ʋûːloʋitɕ]; 3 January 1950 – 23 December 2016) was a Serbian flight attendant who survived the highest fall without a parachute: 10.16 kilometres (6.31 miles). She was the sole survivor after an explosion tore through the baggage compartment of JAT Flight 367 on 26 January 1972, causing it to crash near Srbská Kamenice, Czechoslovakia (now part of the Czech Republic). Air safety investigators attributed the explosion to a briefcase bomb. The Yugoslav authorities suspected that émigré Croatian nationalists were to blame, but no one was ever arrested.
Following the bombing, Vulović spent days in a coma and was hospitalized for several months. She suffered a fractured skull, three broken vertebrae, broken legs, broken ribs, and a fractured pelvis. These injuries resulted in her being temporarily paralyzed from the waist down. Vulović made an almost complete recovery but continued to walk with a limp. She had no memory of the incident and had no qualms about flying in the aftermath of the crash. Despite her willingness to resume work as a flight attendant, Jat Airways (JAT) gave her a desk job negotiating freight contracts, feeling her presence on flights would attract too much publicity. Vulović became a celebrity in Yugoslavia and was deemed a national hero.

A Disturbing Executioner's Tool...
A Disturbing Executioner's Tool...
.
.
.
A garrote, also known as a garotte, garrotte, or chokehold, is a weapon or a method of execution designed to strangle or choke a person to death. There are different variations of garrotes, but they typically involve a cord, wire, or similar ligature used to constrict the victim's neck, cutting off their air supply or causing severe injury to the neck and throat.
Normally people are strangled by squeezing the carotid artery, but the garrote compresses the air tube.
The victim dies slowly, by suffocation.
In the past, a noose was placed around the neck of the condemned person from behind, which was slowly tightened by means of a stick. Later, this noose was replaced by a metal band. However, this only served to fix the victim. A metal screw was screwed into the neck from behind. This caused death immediately. The theory was that when the screw was tightened, it would crush the brain stem and kill the victim instantly.
In Spain, under the dictator Franco, death sentences were carried out with this instrument until 1974 (!) and it was even reported in detail in the newspapers.

The Indian man spent 72 hours with 72 poisonous snakes..
Neelam Kumar Khaire, a restless 28-year-old in 1986, has an unusual world record to his name. He had some strange companions for 72 hours in a glass cabin: 27 monocellate cobras, 24 russell's vipers, nine binocellate cobras, eight banded kraits, and four common snakes.
Khaire, a diploma-holder in catering, works as a receptionist at Blue Diamond, a five-star hotel in Pune. It was during his earlier stint with the Maharashtra Tourism Department that he fell in love with the reptiles. He was posted nine years ago as manager of a holiday home at Matheran, near Bombay. He decided to break the world record of staying with venomous snakes in a glass enclosure.
He claimed that he did not harm or disturb the snakes, and that they only bit him when he accidentally touched them. He said that he wanted to show the world that snakes are beautiful and friendly creatures, and that they should not be killed out of fear.

Scaphism..the scariest method of execution in history
Scaphism..the scariest method of execution in history
.
.
.
Scaphism, also known as "the boats," was an ancient method of torture and execution that was used by the Persians and later by the Greeks. The method involved trapping a person between two boats or hollowed-out tree trunks, smearing them with honey and milk, and then leaving them to be devoured by insects.
The victim would be stripped naked and placed in one of the boats. The other boat would be placed on top of them, trapping them inside. Holes would be cut in the top boat to allow the person's head, arms, and legs to protrude. The person would then be fed a mixture of milk and honey, which would attract insects such as flies, wasps, and ants.
Over time, the insects would swarm around and inside the person's body, eating the honey and milk, and eventually, the person's flesh. The victim would be left to suffer in the boats, often for several days, until they died from a combination of starvation, dehydration, and insect bites.

Water coco, Milkweed pods etc..Depression era food part 2 of 3...
4. Water Cocoa
When you don’t have milk you can still make hot cocoa. Water cocoais still a treat because it’s warm and sweet! Cocoa was one of the more available and shelf stable ingredients. While it wan’t cheap, cocoa could do a lot in the kitchen unlike other spices and seasonings.
5.Boiled Milkweed Pods They’ve been described as reminiscent of fiddle head ferns in their taste, but these foraged veggies were a delicacy for some during the Great Depression. They had to be boiled twice to get rid of the bitter taste, but the cost was free and the milkweed plant grows wild all over the country.
6. Bologna Casserole It’s called a casserole if you sprinkle cheese on top and then bake it, but many families did not have cheese during the Great Depression. Without cheese, this dish is more like John Marzetti or American chop suey: filling and simple and yummy.

This soldier hid for 28 years.. .
Shoichi Yokoi (Yokoi Shōichi, March 31, 1915 - September 22, 1997) was a Japanese soldier. Born in Saori, Aichi Prefecture, he was conscripted into the Imperial Japanese Army in 1941 and sent to Guam shortly thereafter. In 1944, as Douglas MacArthur's army reconquered the island, Yokoi went into hiding.
On January 24, 1972, Yokoi was discovered in a remote section of Guam by two of the island's inhabitants. For 28 years he had been hiding in an underground jungle cave, refusing to believe leaflets declaring that World War II had ended.
"It is with much embarrassment that I have returned alive," he said upon his return to Japan, carrying his rusted rifle at his side. The remark would later become a popular saying.
After a whirlwind media tour of Japan, he married and settled down in rural Aichi Prefecture. Having lived alone in a cave for 28 years, Yokoi became a popular television personality, and an advocate of austere living. He was featured in a 1977 documentary called Yokoi and His Twenty-Eight Years of Secret Life on Guam. He would eventually receive the equivalent of $300 in back pay, along with a small pension.
In 1991, he received an audience with Emperor Akihito. He considered the meeting the greatest honor of his life. He had even prepared a speech of regret to read to the emperor. Months later, Yokoi told a Japanese journalist that he had in fact had a deeply personal reason for remaining isolated:
"I had a tough childhood, among many unkind relatives," he explained. "I stuck to the jungle because I wanted to get even with them."
Yokoi died in 1997 of a heart attack at the age of 82. He was buried at a Nagoya cemetery, under a gravestone that was initially commissioned by his mother in 1955.

Garbage Plate, WPA Soup..etc .Depression era food part 3 of 3...
7. Poorman’s Meal
Potatoes and onions were two foods not usually in short supply during the Great Depression and as such many recipes from the era lean heavily on these two staples. Cheaper cuts of meat and processed meats were more common during the 1930s and hot dogs were a very easy way to add protein to a cheap meal.
8. WPA Soup
Most of us have heard of Hoover stew, but WPA oup remains a lesser-known beast. The Works Progress Administration wasn’t founded until President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s first term, well after Hoover was gone. This soup consists of sausage, eggs, potatoes, parsley, and onions among other ingredients. While not an extravagant dish by our moderns standards, the name reflects a change in employment for many (because of the WPA) that enabled them to buy eggs and sausage, things not found in Hoover stew.
9. Garbage Plate The garbage plate, a local specialty in Rochester, New York, actually got it’s start during the hard times of World War I, but really took off during the Great Depression. When food shortages again meant that folks were craving rib-sticking meals, a hot plate brimming with food was irresistible. The name of garbage plate didn’t come along until later, but back in the old days it was called “pots and hots” short for potatoes and hots (hots being an old-fashioned term for hot dogs). The dish is still served today, but is not a well-known treat. A garbage plate can have have any of the following ingredients: hot dogs, hamburger patties, macaroni salad, beans, eggs, home fries, and/or cheese.

Porcupine Meatballs and more..Depression era food part 1 of 3...
1. Carrot Pie This uncommon treat dates back at least to 1845, but the hard economic times meant that a return to the old colonial American habit of using veggies in sweet pies again made good sense. This sweet treat uses many of the same ingredients as an apple pie, but with pureed carrots instead of apples.
2.Jake and Lena Cookies Named after a radio show named Jake and Lena that promoted the recipe, these cookies were also known as poorman’s cookies. Flavored with raisins, nutmeg, cinnamon, and walnuts, these bars were likely still out of reach for poorer families, but do not contain eggs, which would have allowed one to save those for soups, sandwiches, or scrambles.
3. Porcupine Meatballs This dish gets its name from the rice which not only extends the meat by a long way, but which also sticks out like little porcupine quills. Considered an American classic by some, this is one Depression era dish that many people still make to this day as comfort food.

Tsutomu Miyazaki Japanese serial criminal ""The Otaku Murderer"
Tsutomu Miyazaki (宮﨑 勤, Miyazaki Tsutomu, 21 August 1962 – 17 June 2008) was a Japanese serial killer who murdered four young girls in Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture between August 1988 and June 1989. He abducted and killed the girls, aged from 4 to 7, in his car before dismembering them and molesting their corpses. He also engaged in cannibalism, preserved body parts as trophies, and taunted the families of his victims. Miyazaki was arrested in Hachiōji in July 1989 after being confronted while taking nude photographs of a young girl. He was diagnosed as having one or more personality disorders, but was determined by authorities to be sane and aware of his crimes and their consequences. Miyazaki was sentenced to death in 1997 and was executed by hanging in 2008. Miyazaki was dubbed the "Otaku Murderer" due to his extensive collection of pornography and horror videotapes, which was misrepresented by the media as being primarily anime and manga. This triggered a widespread moral panic against otaku in Japan.

Dive Down.. you got mail..
The world’s deepest postbox is located in Susami Bay, Japan, and is listed in the Guinness World Records. It is an underwater mailbox that is situated 10 meters below the surface of the sea. This unique postbox was installed by the local postal service in 1999, as a way to promote tourism in the area.
The postbox Is made of stainless steel and is painted bright red, making it visible from the surface of the water. It is designed to withstand the water pressure and the corrosive effects of the sea. The mail is placed in a waterproof bag and dropped into the postbox by scuba divers, who are the only ones authorized to deliver the mail.
The underwater postbox Is located near a popular diving spot, and visitors can use it to send postcards and letters to their loved ones. Each piece of mail sent from this postbox is stamped with a special postmark that reads “The Postbox at the Bottom of the Sea.” The mail is then delivered to its destination through the regular postal system.
The world's deepest postbox In Susami Bay is not only a unique attraction but also serves as a symbol of Japan’s commitment to innovation and creativity. It is a testament to the country’s dedication to promoting tourism and providing unique experiences for visitors.

Russia ran out of Vodka...
On May 9, 1945, at 1:10 AM, the citizens of the Soviet Union heard on the radio that Nazi Germany had signed the act of unconditional surrender, which ended the USSR’s fight on the Eastern Front of World War II, or the Great Patriotic War as the Soviets called it. During the war, according to official data, the state lost more than 26 million people.
A rare case of an indestructible victory over its worst enemy rallied the population of the state behind one of their traditional methods of celebration–vodka consumption.
General jubilation engulfed Soviet citizens, who went outside in their pajamas, embraced, and wept with happiness. Thanks to the universal jubilation, even non-drinkers began to drink. Excessive use of vodka, against the background of its deficiency in wartime, led to a unique situation.Approximately 22 hours after the start of a big party in honor of the victory, Joseph Stalin addressed the nation. However, by this time, the population had drunk all the vodka reserves in the country.

Uncontrollable Flames:2023's Wildfires Create Havoc on Multiple Fronts
There have been more than 5,700 fires across Canada this summer. Over 1,000 are currently burning and more than half are out of control, and the Northwest Territories and British Columbia have been particularly hard hit with evacuation orders in place.
The vast majority of residents have now been evacuated from the city of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. At a press conference on the evening of Friday, August 18, the city’s mayor Rebecca Alty said: “The evacuation has been a huge success. We’ve basically managed to evacuate the whole city now.”
A state of emergency has also been declared in British Columbia, as a fast-moving wildfire moves closer to the city of West Kelowna. Around 15,000 residents have been evacuated with another 20,000 under an evacuation alert.
There are also around 1,000 other smaller fires burning across the west of the Canada.
Wildfires have been rapidly spreading across the Canary Island of Tenerife and firefighters are still struggling to control the situation today, August 18. Earlier this summer major fires also broke out in Portugal, Greece and Hawaii.

The man who cut out his own appendix
Leonid Rogozov (1934–2000) was a Soviet-Russian doctor and surgeon who gained fame for performing a self-appendectomy while stationed in Antarctica. He was part of the sixth Soviet Antarctic Expedition in 1960-1961, stationed at the Novolazarevskaya Station.
During his time there, Rogozov fell seriously ill due to acute appendicitis. With no possibility of evacuation or access to another surgeon, he decided to perform the surgery on himself. He enlisted the help of his fellow expedition members to act as assistants during the procedure.
On April 30, 1961, Rogozov performed the surgery in a makeshift operating room, using local anesthesia. He managed to remove his own appendix over the course of about two hours, with his assistants handing him instruments and providing assistance as needed. The operation was successful, and Rogozov's health gradually improved after the procedure.
His remarkable feat of performing a self-appendectomy under such extreme conditions garnered international attention and admiration. It demonstrated his exceptional medical skills, resourcefulness, and determination to save his own life.
Leonid Rogozov's story serves as a testament to human resilience and adaptability in the face of challenging and life-threatening situations. He continued his medical career after returning from Antarctica, working as a surgeon and contributing to various medical fields until his death in 2000.

History's Unsolved Enigma:A Freedom Fighter's Controversial End
The death of Subhas Chandra Bose, a prominent Indian nationalist leader and freedom fighter, remains a subject of controversy and speculation. Subhas Chandra Bose was born on January 23, 1897, and he played a crucial role in India's struggle for independence from British colonial rule.
After being at the forefront of various protests and movements against British rule, Bose became a strong advocate for armed resistance. During World War II, he sought international support for India's cause and established the Indian National Army (INA) in collaboration with the Axis powers, primarily Japan.
In 1945, Bose's plane, a Mitsubishi Ki-21, crashed in Taiwan (then known as Formosa) shortly after takeoff. The crash resulted in a fire, and Bose sustained severe burn injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on August 18, 1945. The official version of events is that Bose died in the plane crash, but due to the lack of concrete evidence and conflicting accounts, various conspiracy theories and doubts have emerged over the years.
Some theories suggest that Bose survived the crash and lived incognito after the war. There have been alleged sightings and claims of Bose's survival in different parts of the world, particularly in India and Southeast Asia. These claims, however, lack substantial evidence and are widely debated among historians, researchers, and the general public.

The Taj Mahal Camouflage
In 1942, during the 2nd World War, the British thought that the Taj Mahal was vulnerable to bombing by the German Luftwaffe bombers (and also the Japanese) and placed bamboo scaffolding over the Taj Mahal. While the images here only show the dome of Taj Mahal covered with a thick layering of bamboo scaffolds, it is widely believed that the whole Taj Mahal was layered. The same thing was done when India was fighting a war against Pakistan in 1965 and 1971. The purpose of the scaffolding was to make Taj Mahal look like nothing but a bamboo stockpile from inside of a bomber plane flying miles above. Keep in mind that back then there was no high precision GPS, and satellite imagery.Another thing that is hardly known is that Taj Mahal was covered with cloth after the 9/11 attacks on the world trade towers as a precautionary measure by the Archeological Survey of India.

Miracle of Love - Dad's Courageous Act Rescues Son
In 2015, a father rescued his son's life after doctors incorrectly pronounced him brain-dead and began to remove him from life support. The father entered the hospital with a gun, secured himself in his son's room, and engaged in a stand-off with SWAT until his son squeezed his hand. Remarkably, the son experienced a miraculous recovery.
According to witnesses, Pickering yelled, 'I'll kill all of you,' and pointed the gun at hospital workers. Pickering's son, George Pickering III, was declared 'brain dead' after he slipped into a coma following a prolonged seizure.
He was able to stop the hospital from carrying out the procedure and his son later made a full recovery.

A Father's Revenge...
Leon Gary Plauche (November 10, 1945 – October 20, 2014) was an American known for publicly killing Jeff Doucet, who had kidnapped, raped and molested Plauché's son, Jody. The killing occurred by use of a revolver on Friday, March 16, 1984, and was captured on camera by a local news crew. Plauché was given a seven-year suspended sentence with five years' probation and 300 hours of community service and received no prison time. The case received wide publicity because some people questioned whether Plauché should have been charged with murder. Plauché contended that he was in the right, and that anyone in a similar position would have taken the same action.

The man who never paid his restaurant bill..
There is a story about the great Catalan surrealist painter Salvador Dali. It is said that in the last years of his life, when he was already famous, he signed checks knowing that they would not be submitted to the bank for payment. Rather, after partying with his friends and consuming the most expensive items the restaurants had to offer, he would ask for the bill, pull out one of his checks, write the amount, and sign it. Before handing over the check, he quickly turned it around, made a drawing on the back and autographed it. Dali knew the owner of the restaurant would not cash the check but keep it,put it in a frame, and display it in the most prominent place in the restaurant: “An original Dali.”
It was a good deal for Dali: his checks never came back to the bank to be cashed, and he still enjoyed great banquets with all of his friends. Dali had a magic checkbook.

The Woman Who Survived an 86-Floor Jump
A 29‐year‐old woman apparently jumped from the 86th‐floor observation deck of the Empire State Building on Dec 2 1979, but survived when she landed on a three‐foot ledge about 20 feet below, the police said. She was admitted to Bellevue Hospital with a fractured pelvis.
Authorities at the 102‐story building on West 34th Street theorized that strong wind gusts — and no small amount of luck — saved the life of Elvita Adams, of 975 Walton Avenue in the Bronx.
George Reice, night supervisor at the observatory, said that a guard heard calls for help at about 8:15 last night and found Miss Adams lying on the 85th‐floor ledge of the building.
A spokesman for the building said that ordinarily four guards patrol the 86th‐floor observation deck, which is surrounded by an eight‐foot, ironspiked fence. But, the police said, no one saw Miss Adams jump. The police said they were considering the incident an attempted suicide.

"Sticky History: The Day the Streets of Boston Ran Sweet "
The Great Molasses Flood, also known as the Boston Molasses Disaster, was a tragic event that occurred on January 15, 1919, in the North End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, United States. It involved the bursting of a large tank filled with molasses, resulting in a devastating flood that swept through the streets.
The molasses tank was owned by the United States Industrial Alcohol Company and was situated near Keany Square. The tank was approximately 50 feet (15 meters) tall and contained around 2.3 million gallons (8.7 million liters) of molasses used in the production of industrial alcohol.
Due to the unusually warm weather on that day, the molasses inside the tank expanded, putting immense pressure on the structure. Tragically, the tank could not withstand the pressure, and it ruptured, releasing a massive wave of sticky molasses at an estimated speed of 35 miles per hour (56 km/h). The wave was about 25 feet (7.6 meters) high and quickly flooded the surrounding area.
The force of the molasses flood caused significant destruction. Buildings were lifted from their foundations, and streets were engulfed, trapping people and animals in the sticky and viscous substance. The disaster claimed the lives of 21 people and injured around 150 others. Additionally, numerous horses and other animals were also killed.

The Ship-Saving Dolphin of New Zealand's Waters
Pelorus Jack was a famous Risso's dolphin. He was a friendly marine mammal known for his interactions with ships in the Cook Strait of New Zealand during the early 20th century. First noticed in 1888 when he joined a steamer bound for Nelson, Pelorus Jack spent the next 24 years escorting boats from Pelorus Sound to treacherous French Pass, a narrow stretch of water between D’Urville Island and the mainland, where the water surges through at up to 8 knots.
Pelorus Jack was not a single dolphin but a nickname given to the various Risso's dolphins that interacted with ships traveling through the Cook Strait between the North Island and South Island of New Zealand. The first known Pelorus Jack was encountered in the late 19th century, and over the years, several different Risso's dolphins took on the name as they displayed a similar behavior of escorting ships through the strait.
The dolphin became well-known for guiding ships safely through treacherous waters, often swimming alongside vessels and surfacing near the bow. It was considered a good omen by sailors and a sign of safe passage. Pelorus Jack's presence was appreciated by sailors, and there were even laws enacted to protect him from harm.
However, the last confirmed sightings of Pelorus Jack occurred in 1912, and the exact fate of this friendly marine creature remains a mystery. It is believed that the various dolphins known as Pelorus Jack may have lived for several decades, contributing to the enduring legend of this extraordinary and helpful animal.

The Boy Who Fell from a Plane...
Keith Sapsford from Randwick, New South Wales, met his untimely death in 1970 at age 14 in his attempt to travel as a wheel-well stowaway in a Japan Airlines plane en route to Tokyo from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport.
This was right after escaping from a Roman Catholic Institution where his father Charles Sapsford sent him for reorientation of his mindset after discovering that the recent family trip to see the world had failed to satisfy Keith’s curiosity about how people around the world lived.
A wheel-well stowaway is a person who attempts to travel secretly in the landing gear compartment, also referred to as the wheel bay or undercarriage of an aircraft. So far, none of such attempts have been successful because if they survive the takeoff and landing phases of the flight, which is very unlikely, they stand the risk of hypothermia and hypoxia, because of the extremely low temperature and atmospheric pressure at high altitude — including the hearing damage that comes as a result of prolonged exposure to dangerously high decibels of sound outside the cabin bay and worse of all, death.
Surviving takeoff and landing is quite unusual because, at takeoff, the landing gear retracts into the wheel -well which has the tendency to crush a stowaway if he or she is not flung out of the airplane. Unfortunately, this was the case for Keith Sapsford as he was flung off the plane immediately after it took off crashing down 60 meters (90 feet). This was because the latch was opened mid-air, to take the wheel back inside the compartment.

Paratroopers to Trendsetters: The Mohawk Haircut Takes Center Stage!
Paratroopers to Trendsetters: The Mohawk Haircut Takes Center Stage!
.
.
.
U.S. 17th Airborne Paratroopers, their hair cut in Mohawk-style, are briefed for the next day's jump across the Rhine, Arras France, March 23, 1945.
The soldier in the right front has a German pistol holster on his belt, likely captured in Belgium.
Operation Varsity, the jump across the Rhine to support Montgomery's river crossing, included one British - the 6th plus Canadians - and one American airborne divisions - the 17th. the 6th had jumped into Normandy; the 17th had not made a combat jump but had fought very well as infantry during the Ardennes (Bulge) campaign.
The jump and the following glider assault took place in daylight (because of the misdrop of almost all units at Normandy), and landed on top of German units. It was successful, but suffered extremely high casualties.
With the success of Operation Varsity, the northern route into the industrial heart of Germany was now wide open.
