Islam in its Own Words
7 FollowersThere are currently more than an estimated 1.8 billion Muslims in the world (according to Pew Research as of 2015), but Islam is still not well understood in the mainstream. What is the Quran? Who was Mohammed? Is it truly peaceful? What does it say about Jesus, Women, other scriptures and prophets? While there are many questions and opinions about these issues, what better way than to see what their writings (including the Quran, Hadiths/Sunnah, or commentaries) have to say for themselves? This channel - Islam in its Own Words (IOW) - brings these issues plainly to the viewer by reading directly from these texts for all to see. Citations and translations are provided so that anyone can look these up for themselves. Quranic citations are taken directly from Quran.com using common translations like Saheeh International, Al-Hilali & Khan, or Pickthall. Hadiths are taken from Sunnah.com, including well known collections such as Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunun Abi Dawood, Sunun Ibn Majah, Sunan An-Nasai, and others. Both are widely used and accepted sources for these texts, and the original Arabic is included alongside any translations. All verses will have the translation noted. Note that particular translations are chosen for both readability and accuracy according to the original Arabic. Any text in parenthesis or brackets have been added by scholars or the translators, and in many cases provides a biased or incorrect understanding of the original meaning. Hadith are presented as they are translated into English on Sunnah.com, which does not provide alternate readings. Each image has the reference number and grade included. Sunnah quoted are all grade “Sahih” or “Hasan”.
