Quais são os livros apócrifos? O termo "apócrifo" vem do grego e designa "o que é mantido escondido". De fato muitos livros, cujos temas são paralelos àqueles presentes nos livros bíblicos, não vieram à tona senão no século passado. Muitos foram ignorados por questões ideológicos e tantos outros por que ninguém sabia de sua existência. Existem alguns livros escritos antes ou algum tempo depois de Cristo, que tiveram como intenção figurar como Escritura Sagrada. Mas, pelo Magistério da Igreja Católica e a assistência infalível do Espírito Santo, esses livros espúrios foram definitivamente afastados no século IV d.C., restando então apenas o cânon bíblico que guardamos até hoje, com 46 livros no Antigo Testamento e 27 livros no Novo. Por esse motivo, muitos daqueles livros desapareceram, outros sobreviveram em uma ou outra comunidade antiga ou, ainda, em traduções, fragmentos ou citações volta e meia descobertos.
