Cop BL@MS Family Dog in Iowa! Lawful? Like It or Not, Yes!
A Davenport, Iowa police officer shoots dead a 2-year-old Labrador in front of the dog’s family—including the mother, young child, and a young cousin. The officer was never bit, or even so much as scratched, by the dog.
Did the officer simply EXECUTE this poor dog? Could there be ANY legal justification for this officer’s use of deadly force to kill a family pet?
The legal answer, like it or not, is that YES, this shooting of the dog was legally justified.
Anyone not uncontrollably subject to neurotic hysteria regarding this event, and capable of engaging their powers of reason and having a mind open to actual to law, facts, and reasoned analysis, is invited to join me LIVE at 11 AM ET to discuss!

The Second Amendment secures our right to keep and bear arms—at least when it’s not being neutered by home-grown fascists--but does it secure a right to be STUPID with a gun?
Join me to watch an utter absence of common sense when it comes to exercising Second Amendment rights, in this particular case while lounging by a swimming pool of all places.
As an added bonus, watch even all the people WITHOUT a gun at the pool also strive to achieve maximum stupidity.

Police Sh@@t Fleeing Malachi Williams in the BACK! Lawful? YES!
A white police officer shoots a fleeing black suspect—Malachi Williams--in the back, at a moment where the suspect presents no immediate threat to the officer.
Worse, the officer’s body worn camera footage shows no apparent indication that the suspect was armed.
Is this police shooting of a fleeing, apparently unarmed, black suspect in the back yet another example of police systemic racism and excessive force?
The answer is no—because, as usual, the devil is in the details.

You Choose: Actual Lawyering Lawyer or Internet Popular Lawyer?
Today's show is in response to the video posted on August 25 by the channel "Washington Gun Law" (Attorney William Kirk) regarding the shooting death of Roger Fortson by a Florida deputy back in May. The deputy was responding to reports of an apparently violent domestic violence complaint when Fortson responded to the door knock with a gun in hand--at which point the deputy shot Fortson.
Kirk had previously concluded that the shooting of Fortson was an outright execution for Fortson having merely exercised his Second Amendment rights.
I critiqued Kirk's conclusion that the Fortson shooting was an outright execution on the basis that (despite claiming to be a criminal defense attorney providing legal analysis) he never made a single reference to any relevant Florida use-of-force law whatever, nor entertained any legal argument that might favor the deputy who shot Fortson.
It is frankly unimaginable to me that a criminal defense attorney can offer a legal analysis to the public on a use-of-event of high public interest and controversy without even once considering the likely defendant's legal defenses.
In my own critique I made actual use of the relevant Florida law that, combined with the facts available, provides a sound foundation for the legal conclusion that the deputy's shooting of Fortson was lawful, if awful.
The Kirk video we'll be taking a look at today is apparently in part a response to my critique.
Full disclosure: I have not myself watched this Attorney Kirk video, so I'll be seeing it for the first time during today's live stream.
So join me for my own LIVE response to Kirk's latest video in this series at 1PM ET!

SHOCKING New Duty-to-Retreat Law! The DISSENT!
Two days ago the Minnesota Supreme Court filed its ruling in the case of State v. Blevins, a case in which the defendant pulled out a machete on a train platform and brandished it at several people.
Today we read the DISSENT of that ruling.
We previously read the majority opinion of that ruling here:
https://www.youtube.com/live/njnj2kjI77U?si=Q1cBSkZ4XKN8E95f
The defendant was charged with felony assault, and raised the legal defense of self-defense. At a bench trial the judge ruled that the defendant's conduct could not qualify as self-defense because he failed to satisfy Minnesota's generalized legal duty to retreat in the context of self-defense.
Minnesota is, indeed, one of the small minority of states (eleven) that impose a generalized legal duty to retreat before deadly force can be used in self-defense--but never before has this duty been expanded to include the mere threat of deadly force, as opposed to the actual use of deadly force.
In today's LIVE show we read through State v. Blevins, consistent with our mission at Law of Self Defense of basing our understanding of the law of self-defense on ACTUAL law.
Join me LIVE at 10:30 AM ET to learn what Minnesota's new take on the legal duty to retreat means in the practical context of defending yourself, your family, and your property from criminal predation.

Sonya Massey Shooting: Awful but Lawful Self-Defense
Today I’m going to share with you proof that the tragic shooting death of Sonya Massey at the hands of then-Deputy Sean Grayson was to a reasonable degree of legal certainty a lawful use of deadly force in self-defense.
FIRST we’re going to review once again the body worn camera footage of the encounter between Sonya Massey and deputies that led to her death, streaming right through without commentary or pause.
THEN we’re going to do a legal analysis of this event applying ACTUAL law and ACTUAL police use of force policies to ACTUAL evidence—and not merely succumb to our emotions over this admittedly tragic and bad outcome shooting.
Emotionally hysterical hand-waving may make internet audiences feel good, and if that’s what you’re looking for it’s out there.
If you want actual legal analysis, however, you’re in the right place. That’s what we do here at Law of Self Defense, because emotionless analysis is how real lawyers practice law.
Plus, a BONUS—how YOU can better prepare to make better informed, more confident, more DECISIVE, and LEGALLY SOUND decisions in defense of yourself and your family, and your make yourself hard to kill.

SHOCKING! Ashley "Black Swan" Benefield Murder Trial Closing!
Today brings us the closing arguments in the murder trial of Ashley Benefield, one-time aspiring ballerina, charged with murder in the death of her estranged husband, Doug Benefield, whom she shot dead in Tampa FL on September 27, 2020. Ashley is claiming she shot Doug in self-defense.
It is perhaps noteworthy that the couple married 13 days after first meeting each other, and Doug was a full 30 years older than the then 24-year-old Ashley. Ashley quickly became pregnant, and just as quickly decided she no longer had any use for Doug as a husband, and left to live in a different part of Florida.
When Ashley had her birth induced, she hid that fact from Doug. The pair soon were involved in a heated divorce and custody battle, up to the September day on which Ashley shot and killed him.
The murder trial began last Tuesday, and ran for five days of witness testimony, with jury instruction and closing arguments taking place today, after which the jury will be sent into deliberations to arrive at a verdict.
Join me LIVE today as we speed our way through the the charging of the jury and the state and defense closing arguments in the self-defense/murder trial of Ashley Benefield.

LIVE! Sonya Massey Shooting: Legal Analysis Q&A
On Wednesday I published the video of my legal analysis of the Sonya Massey shooting, who was shot and killed by Deputy Sean Grayson inside her own apartment earlier this month. Grayson has since been fired and charged with murder and other crimes.
In my legal analysis I concluded that the available evidence--in the form of the body worn camera video of Grayson and a second deputy with him at the time--made clear that the shooting of Massey, while tragic, was almost certainly lawful self-defense.
This, of course, has led to a tsunami of protesting comments, as my analysis runs counter to the consensus view of this police use-of-force event.
In this live stream I will sift through a selected portion of the more substantive comments and questions I've received across social media, and address those with law-based analysis and the actual evidence in the case.
I'll also take selected questions and counter-argument from the audience during the live stream.
Join me LIVE this Friday, July 26, at Noon ET to become informed!

HOW Incompetent Was Secret Service Agent? THIS Incompetent!
President Donald Trump was shot by an attempted assassin on Saturday, July 13, a day that exposed a horrific degree of incompetence of both the US Secret Service generally and some of its purportedly elite agents on scene in particular.
Exactly how incompetent were some of those agents on scene? In today's show we illustrate exactly their level of incompetence, by contrasting their performance with that of a normal street cop actually in a gun fight.

An Indianapolis driver got very angry with another vehicle, and approached that other in a rage with a gun in hand.

Was this shooting an unnecessary murder? Manslaughter? Or could this have been an entirely lawful killing of another human being in the middle of a public roadway?

REAL LAWYER: How to STOP an Assassination INSTANTLY
This past Saturday a rifle-armed assassin came within millimeters of killing President Donald Trump. Fortunately, the President survived with a flesh wound to his ear.
Perhaps even worse, the more we learn about this assassination attempt, and especially the US Secret Service preparations for and response to this threat, the more inexcusable the whole scenario becomes.
Join me to discuss how the law of self-defense provides MORE than sufficient perfectly legal options for the US Secrete Service, local law enforcement, and even mere bystanders to have STOPPED this assassin in his tracks, before he was ever able to to fire his first murderous shot.
