Kansas City Chiefs News: Patrick Mahomes Injury Update + Mel Kiper Mock Draft Reaction
Patrick Mahomes provided a new injury update for himself today as he and the Kansas City Chiefs are preparing to play the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2023 AFC Championship Game. Mahomes said his ankle is “feeling good” and he’s going to practice today and fully test it out. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said everyone would practice today including Mahomes and WR Mecole Hardman. Hardman hasn’t played since Week 9, but is feeling better. We’ll see if Mahomes and Hardman are full participants or limited on Wednesday. Reid also mentioned that TE Jody Fortson and RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire could be activated from IR this week. Reid mentioned that Fortson is further along and has a better chance to play. Kansas City has an open roster spot after waiving CB Chris Lammons.

ESPN NFL Draft Analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has released his first 2023 NFL Mock Draft and he has the Chiefs drafting Boston College WR Zay Flowers. Flowers is an undersized, yet explosive wide receiver that is very dangerous in space. Flowers had 78 receptions for 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2022. With JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman set to be NFL free agents, drafting a WR is very much a possibility during the 2023 NFL Draft.

Chiefs Trade Rumors On DeAndre Hopkins + Injury Updates On Frank Clark & Mecole Hardman
Kansas City Chiefs Report: DeAndre Hopkins trade rumors are gaining traction as the Cardinals’ WR is on the NFL Trade Block according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. Schultz reports that Arizona plans to shop Hopkins during the 2023 NFL Offseason. Hopkins essentially confirmed the NFL trade rumors as he posted on Instagram with a caption saying, “Forever Grateful” which sounds like a goodbye. Should the Chiefs trade for the all-pro WR? Chiefs’ wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman are set to be free agents, so trading for Hopkins, who has 2 years and just over $34 million left on his deal, could be a possibility.
Chiefs injury news focuses on DE Frank Clark and WRs Mecole Hardman and Skyy Moore. Andy Reid told reporters on Monday that Clark is dealing with a minor groin injury, but should be OK with some time off during NFL Wild Card weekend. Hardman almost made his return from a pelvis injury on Saturday against the Raiders, but was held out. He should be ready by the divisional round of the 2023 NFL Playoffs. Moore has a minor hand injury but hopefully be ready for next week as well. Speaking of the NFL Playoffs, it’s being reported that Atlanta could be a neutral site location for a potential Chiefs-Bills AFC Championship game.

Top 5 keys to victory for the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the Seattle Seahawks:
- Double-team WR DK Metcalf. Tyler Lockett is OUT with an injury which means the Chiefs defense needs to eliminate Metcalf from the Seahawks game plan.
- Chiefs need to be as desperate as the Seahawks are. Seattle needs to win to stay alive in the NFC Playoff Picture, but Kansas City needs a win to stay in the race for the #1 seed in the AFC Playoff Picture.
- Embrace cold weather! Chiefs vs. Seahawks game time temperatures could be below zero degrees with wind chill. Patrick Mahomes has historically played well in cold weather.
- Stay hot Jerick McKinnon. McKinnon has over 300 total yards over the Chiefs past 3 games. He’s emerged as a strong weapon in the Chiefs offense both as a runner and as a receiver.
- Win the turnover battle. The Chiefs are 30th in the NFL with a -6 turnover margin. That trend needs to change starting this week.

Patrick Mahomes threw 3 interceptions for just the 3rd time in his career against the Broncos on Sunday. With Mahomes’ struggling and Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts having another big performance, Hurts has taken the lead in the NFL MVP race. Mahomes still has a chance to win his 2nd MVP, but he has some work to do. Travis Kelce continues to rack up record as he became the fastest TE in NFL history to 10,000 receiving yards, doing it in just 140 career games. Kelce has also extended his consecutive 1,000-yard season streak to 7. No other tight end has accomplished that in 3 straight seasons.
