Released 01/01/96 on So-Lo LP. (Shortened short version.)
From Buenos Aires to outer space chorizo, we’ve gotcha covered.
It’s about PROCESS.
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll recognize many faces and might know their history, related events - and each process.
If you typically go by the three-letter networks (and agencies), some of this may be new to you. No worries. It’s quick.
Process (noun): a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end.
Process (verb): perform a series of mechanical or chemical operations on (something) in order to change or preserve it.

Downieville 4th of July (bubble pack)
Music: The Propellerheads, featuring Shirley Bassey from 1997 album “Decksanddrumsandrockandroll” available at all the usual sources (edited for time).
Hwy. 49 from Grass Valley to Downieville is only about 50 miles, but it’s a spectacular ride thru the forest and along the Yuba River. Used to be a regular trip most summer Sundays, back before the world went mad. Not sure when the bubble pack idea started…. 2021? ’22? It certainly is unique, completely harmless, and enjoyed by all. Food is pretty good, too.
Downieville missed being the State Capitol by 10 votes when California became the 31st state in September of 1850. A fight broke out the evening of Downieville’s first July 4th celebration, a man was stabbed to death, and a woman named Josefa Segovia was lynched for the murder. She was hanged from Downieville’s Jersey Bridge in the middle of town on July 5th, 1851. I guess people were crazy back then, too.
Didn’t get any video of the actual parade…. It goes for two blocks, turns around, then goes back. Got clear shots of parade vehicles as they returned tho, thanks to leaving bike’s tailcam on. Actually managed to record the siren this time. Amazing how loud the bubble pack was while being stomped into oblivion - VU levels were very close to that of the siren. Enjoy the video, comment if you like. ;-)

Music: (Short version) Steppenwolf’s “Earschplittenloudenboomer” from Steppenwolf 7 LP, 1970.
Yes, the English translation is 100% accurate, rumored to be John Kay speaking, tho there doesn’t seem to be any proof one way or the other.
Quotation seems to fit certain situations well, right down to the inevitable boom, tho it’s anybody’s guess what form that will take. To know the truth these days requires some effort, some research, and that is where it ends for those who don’t care enough to know or don’t know enough to care.

Spies
Music: Big Data’ s “Dangerous” from the 2.0 album released in 2013.
Clumsy attempts at spying on Americans - like the foolish Clipper chip scheme - have long since evolved into real-time recording of ALL comms, transactions, available video and everything else of any significance. Privacy is now an obsolete concept.

Memorial Day (2021)
Music:
Queen, “Another One Bites the Dust” from 1980 release “The Game”
Oingo Boingo, “Just Another Day” from 1985 release “Dead Man’s Party”
Both are available online from Amazon, iTunes Store, the usual sources.
On this Memorial Day, with all aspects of life seemingly turned upside-down, displaying the flag and honoring our Veterans is more important than ever. Being patriotic has taken on new meaning as well. It means speaking out against the decay of morals and media, corrupt politicos and cancel culture. If we all stand up for truth and justice, we might get our country back. God Bless America.

30th Annual Nevada County NCFTR Toy Run 2021
Music: The James Gang, “Wrapcity in English” from 1969 LP “Yer’ Album”
This isn’t so much about the ’21 Toy Run as it is about the twenty-nine previous runs and the man who made it all happen. Thom Staser. Thom started the Nevada County Food and Toy Run (NCFTR) back in 1991, attracting thousands of riders and insuring a Merry Christmas for families that might otherwise have gone without. Support from law enforcement, fire departments, rescue units, and various agencies made it somewhat unique among Toy Runs, with blocked intersections during the ride and crowds lining the streets.
After 30 years of logistics, planning, and balancing demands from city, county and state agencies, 2020 proved to be his last year when they all pulled the plug due to mass psychosis shutdowns. But…. we rode anyway, choosing freedom over fear, Christmas over Covid.
This year, having created what is probably the single biggest charity event in Nevada County, Thom has passed the baton to new management - without so much as a thank-you, near as I can tell. 2021 saw a good turnout, judging by the number of bikes involved. Will the NCFTR survive? Time will tell.
FWIW, this will likely be last post here on YouTube. Moving to Rumble: The Ride Goes On.

Hold the Line
Music:
Short intro: Joe Walsh “The Confessor” from 1985 album of the same name.
Tom Petty, “I Won’t Back Down” from 1989 release “Full Moon Fever”
Both are available online from Amazon, iTunes Store, all the usual sources.
For those feeling overwhelmed by current events, this is a reminder that the fight has just begun. A collection of cameos from some of our most notable warriors, past and present, these are just a few of the people willing to speak up for human rights and decency. People are taking to the streets in protest marches world-wide, prompted by lockdowns, “mandatory” injections of an experimental RNA-altering drug, and the erosion of our God-given rights. Don’t give in, do not comply. Hold the Line.

Downieville Ride 2021
Music: Nashville legend Justin Johnson, “The Red Road” from his album titled, "If Walls Could Talk."
http://www.justinjohnsonlive.com/store.html
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm7761857/bio = IMDb bio
Normally packed on weekends - especially on a sunny winter day like this one - Downieville’s streets were empty with most businesses closed. The local market was open, as was Two Rivers Cafe (formerly The Gallows), but they must be losing money with so little support.
Tourism in California is dead, thanks to regulations, travel restrictions and manufactured fear. Companies as large as Apple and small as the locale deli have all closed their doors. Many are gone for good. People everywhere are struggling to stay afloat, those who are still working can thank their lucky stars. The record-setting economy we started with in 2020 is but a distant memory now, less than a year later.
Meanwhile, JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs each had a banner year, with Goldman doubling profits in 2020. You may remember them from the 2008 TARP bailout.
Apparently we’re not all in this together.

29th Annual Nevada County NCFTR Toy Run 2020
After daily predictions of rain leading up to the event, rain stopped just before 9am, the sky cleared up and sunshine came streaming down like a sign from Heaven. Good thing, too, because they didn’t have enough tents at Interfaith Food Ministry to cover all the goodies we delivered.
Music: “Going Down” by the Jeff Beck Group on their Beckology album, recorded in 1972.
Jeff Beck, Cozy Powell on drums, Clive Chaman, and Max Middleton on piano.
Originally written and produced by Don Nix in 1969, this might be the best known version of a song covered by the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Savoy Brown, The Rolling Stones and over 50 other bands, possibly the most copied rock tune ever and oddly appropriate to circumstances in 2020.
This year’s Nevada County Food and Toy Run wasn’t quite the same event we’ve come to expect over the years. No coffee, no donuts, no cops, few volunteers, and a smaller turnout than usual, but the ride went without a hitch. Christmas would have been cancelled for a lot of families, were it not for the determination of Thom Staser to see it thru and deliver as he’s done for nearly 30 years.
Shame on Nevada County, on Governor Nuisance, and on all the soul-sucking bureaucrats that attempted to cancel Christmas. Bravo to all who ignore them and choose life over fear, shutdown and depression.

Alleghany and Pike, California
Music: Nashville guitar legend Justin Johnson, from the “Drivin’ It Down” double album, song is “Loose Change”
http://www.justinjohnsonlive.com/store.html
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm7761857/bio = IMDb bio
Out for another Sunday ride, haven’t been to Alleghany since the old hotel burned down long ago. And never been to Pike proper.
There was a little haze in the air, but not bad yet. California’s annual record-setting fire season wouldn’t get underway for another week or two.
Pike had me looking at maps when I got back; did I miss it? No, that was Pike. Ran out of pavement. Only one building, and it looked abandoned.
Forest is another tiny ghost town nearby, but at least it has the ruins of a town - or did, last time I was there.
So, if you’ve ever had a hankerin’ to visit Alleghany or Pike - and who hasn’t - this video will serve as an intro to what you may find. Enjoy!

Got a call 45 minutes before run was to start, first I heard of it and no idea what to expect.
Rather like a toy run it was, with a truck contingent and more smiling faces than I’ve seen in months. Cars honking, people waving, flags everywhere, ride was a kick.
Shout out here to the Hessians who did an outstanding job of guiding the run with skill and precision. (So they fought for the British, at least they stuck around ;-) Tried to thank ‘em in person, but couldn’t locate them in the crowd so this will have to suffice. Thanks to all involved, was encouraging to see so many patriots.

Quick ride up to Cabelas just across the Nevada border to pick up an order, good excuse to duck out on a weekday and enjoy a perfect summer day. Got rained on by a thunderstorm tailing me thru the summit where weather can change in an instant; not enough to get wet, just enough to be refreshing.
Greeted at the door by Karen who refused entry without a mask. A manager graciously provided one, the paper type that’s useless against viruses or bacteria (read the box), but by then I’d lost interest in doing any shopping. Usually drop a couple hundred.
Boomtown was a ghost town. Thought I’d stop for lunch at Gold Ranch (see Fish Special video), but no go. Took a ride along the lake to Donner Pass only to find it closed for some reason, had to turn back into the thunderstorm and Interstate 80, but headed west just in time. Surprised to see Nevada gripped by the same epidemic of fear as CA, with the same attendant economic destruction. Sad.

28th Annual Nevada County NCFTR Toy Run 2019
This year's Nevada County Toy Run (NCFTR 2019) wound thru Nevada City and Grass Valley in a mix of sunshine and clouds after a week of rain with nothing but more in the forecast. No word yet on the turnout, but the event was a resounding success as it is most every year. If you missed it for some reason, saddle up and ride along!
Music:
Samantha Fish “Sucker Born” recorded live on a 4-string cigarbox guitar.
A major talent who pours heart and soul into her work, she could make a lamp cord sound good. This song is also on her 2013 LP “Black Wind Howlin.’” https://www.samanthafish.com

Virginia City via Mount Rose
Music:
Oingo Boingo “When the Lights Go Out” from their 1990 album, Dark at the End of the Tunnel
Another 48-hour blackout courtesy of PG&E. Once again, gassed-up and ready, took advantage of the situation to ride over Mount Rose and visit Virginia City. Long wondered what the place is like since my only other visits have been during a bi-annual motorcycle event known as Street Vibrations.
Nice (quick) ride over Mount Rose, and Hwy. 341 up to Virginia City was spectacular. Next time, I’ll try Hwy. 342 thru Gold Hill and Silver City.
The old Reindeer Lodge, a storied retreat and music venue for over five decades, was destroyed by record snowfall during the winter of 2017 and is being demolished. Property is currently for sale.

PG&E Holiday
Music:
First song is an oldie from 1987, “The PG&E Song” only released on a 45rpm single back in the day. It surfaced via a phone call while at Cabela’s, since posted to Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qh24edpjtj0vjz3/The%20PGandE%20Song.mp4?dl=0
Second tune is “Lightbulb” from Michigan band named The Rival. These guys still maintain a YouTube channel last time we checked: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheRivalTV
Full tank, bag packed, I’m outta here. Beautiful Fall day, great excuse for a ride.
First blackout was relatively small, a practice run, as it were. Second blackout on this day was total, all of Nevada County was dark for at least 48 hours, along with many other counties. Some areas were without power for nearly a week. Markets without backup generators (and only two here were so equipped) lost thousands of dollars worth of food, as did restaurants. Store shelves were empty, gas was hard to come by, and we all lost work as virtually everything ground to a halt. Subsequent blackouts after this one left power on in commercial districts. Nice.
Rode the entire length of Nevada County. The only wind was coming from Governor Nuisance.
