Manifestations of God's Wisdom: Art and Literature Videos

This video displays a collection of my artworks that portray aspects of magical realism and surrealism. I digitally altered these drawings and paintings to portray a surreal world, beyond the natural world. I provide the originaly artworks, along with their digital transformations. They represent my own unique perspectives about my personal experiences.

This video is a collection of photographs of the moon that I have taken in Platte County, Wyoming. These images are used to illustrate a poem that I wrote in 1970 that represented my philosophical musings about the astronauts' moon walk in 1969. The video is a reminder that we should take time to enjoy simple pleasures in our lives, like gazing at the moon and the stars, wherever we are.

This video is based on images that I collected and created for my Painting III class at Laramie County Community College during Fall semester of 2021. It represents my journey as an artist during this past year. My paintings display my perceptions about special wilderness areas that I have explored in the Snowy Range Mountains. It reminds us of the unique places in America that we should cherish and protect.

This video is a collection of photographs of still life compositions that I have taken over the past decade. It features displays of an assortment of objects, carefully arranged to portray my perceptions of the natural world. Many of these objects also trigger my memories of particular events in my life. Through visual imagery, they convey my unspoken thoughts and feelings to my viewers.

This video is an illustrated essay about kaleidoscopes that I wrote a few years ago. It presents a brief history of the unique invention, as well as a brief summary about how these "parlor" toys really work. It also describes the world's largest kaleidoscope, located in Mount Tremper, New York. This video provides interesting information on a fascinating topic for both children and adults.

This video presents a biographical sketch of the famous photographer, James Welling, whose unique photographs represent a variety of styles and themes. In one of his quotes, he explains the importance of conveying meaning in a photograph: "It's not that I don't care about content, but content is not the only way a photograph has meaning." His wide array of photographs -- in both black and white and colors -- continue to amaze his viewers.

This video presents a biographical sketch of Thomas Demand, a famous photographer who has created a tangible, visible connection between sculpture and photography. His creative process involves completing intricate, realistic reproductions of real life scenes from paper and wood, photographing them, then destroying the original sculptures. Such a unique approach has earned him an integral place in the modern and postmodern art worlds.

This video presents a biographical sketch of Alec Soth, a famous American photographer. It includes a brief description of the meaning and significance that is conveyed through Mr. Soth's photographs. His pictures express the physical and social isolation that many people feel in this postmodern era. After sojourning across America seeking a sense of community in this vast country, Mr. Soth concludes: "Nobody really wants to be alone. People need people."

This video is an illustrated essay that I wrote a few years ago. It features some of my artworks, which demonstrate the major concepts of literary terms that I discuss in my essay, based on a poster with the statement: "You are the author of your own life story" that I saw in a classroom where I was substitute teaching one day. I present an uplifting message about the nature of human existence, which is especially relevant in the uncertain times that we now face in our world.

This video tells the story of a blanket bear named Flower Bear, based on a children's book that I wrote and illustrated for my grandchildren. I also narrate the video. Flower Bear gets lost in a snowstorm one blustery Wyoming winter day, and her mishap teaches her to have faith in herself and her beloved Adele, the little girl who owns her. This video is an illustrated essay that I wrote a few years ago to pay tribute to my father's military service during World War II. I present a brief narrative, based on his journal, of his experiences in the United States Army as part of the 46th field artillery, 5th infantry division, that marched across Normandy to achieve victory over the German Army in 1944. He asks and answers the intriguing question: "Were we heroes?" My father's service to his country is a reminder to patriots at this point in our nation's history that freedom is never free!

This video, based on an essay that I wrote, presents numerous famous quotes about the United States Constitution, with my brief response to the meaning of each quote. The soundtrack includes My Country Tis of Thee, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, and America the Beautiful. It is both educational and inspirational to viewers. It celebrates our American heritage, based on the wisdom of our Founding Fathers.
