Fishing with the EP Minnow for Texas Bass
Helloooooo fishin' friends! Today's video is a defacto One Fly challenge. I tied up a single little EP Minnow using some new tying materials I'd just received the night prior. I promptly took the fly up to the neighborhood pond for some fishing before a nasty storm was forecast to hit the greater Houston area.
From the time I tied the fly on, I never cut it off or lost it. I fished two different ponds with it - though you don't get to see video of the 2nd, because I'm an idiot and forgot to bring spare batteries with me, and the battery in my action cam died after about 40 minutes of fishing.
All in all I caught about 30 fish the day of this recording, mostly in the 2nd pond. I caught a few more in the first pond featured, and hooked up with what would no doubt have been my best Texas bass to date - a real pig of a fish that threw the hook a few feet from the bank.
I made up for it though at the 2nd pond - where I hooked up with 5 good bass and landed 3 of them, including one that was probably 3-3.5lbs. Not too shabby for a 5 weight fly rod and a minnow fly that wasn't even quite 2 inches long!
Dinkers love the EP Minnow too, as did the trees.

Nautilus CCF 5/6 reel
Scientific Anglers GPX taper Sharkskin WF5F fly line

Trout Tackle for Bass and Panfish
Hello fishin' friends! Join me while we chase some bass and panfish with trout tackle. I didn't get rid of *all* of my trout gear when I moved from Oregon to Texas, I kept a good size box of spinners, spoons, and micro crank baits plus my trout jigs so today we're going to take the light rods and see how well the minuscule gear works on warm water fish.
Equipment used today:
G Loomis GL2 6'6" ultralight spinning rod
Shimano Sahara 1500 spinning reel
10lb test Spider Wire braid, 4lb test mono leader
Lamiglas XP702S light spinning rod
Quantum Throttle 20 spinning reel
15lb Power Pro braid, 6lb test leader
Leland Lures Trout Magnet jigs
Yakima Bait Company Rooster Tail in-line spinners

Fly Fishing for Bass and Panfish
Helloooooo fishin' friends. Join me for another adventure with the fly rod today. They were hitting so well earlier in the week that I had to venture out again (and again) to hit up the fish with the long-rod.
Fishing was tougher on this outing, the fish really made me work for the catches. And of course I suffered from the loss of some good footage because I didn't swap batteries soon enough!
If you stick out the video until the end though, you'll see I was rewarded for my hard work with good bass that ate my Game Changer!

Panfish on the Fly
Hello fishin' friends! Come along with me today while we break out the lighter rods - specifically my wife's TFO 8'6" 5 weight Signature Series in Breast Cancer Awareness trim, which I have paired up with my Nautilus CCF 5/6 and a Scientific Angler's Sharkskin GPX taper line.
The fly I'm throwing in this video is a Rio Getter variation - tied with a body made from sililegs and instead of sililegs on by the eye, I opted for a couple turns of turkey feather instead.
Today's video wound up getting cut short due to the battery dying on the action camera, and wiping out about half of the footage I shot.
Equipment used today:
TFO (Temple Fork Outfitters) 8'6" 4 piece 5 weight Signature Series
Nautilus CCF reel
Scientific Anglers Sharkskin GPX

Fly Tying - Articulated Big Bird Bass Bug
Hello fishin friends! In today's video you're going to sit along with me as I invent a new fly. This fly was inspired by one of my Instagram followers - a fellow I was acquainted with in Oregon who used to work with my wife.
I posted up a picture from a Dollar General haul - I found feather dusters that use turkey feathers for just $1 - he said I need to make a fly and call it Big Bird - so I did.
You get to sit in with me as I'm inventing a new fly with those yellow turkey feathers as the featured material.
Materials used in the creation of this fly:
20mm articulation shanks (home brew Flymen Co. Fish Spine style shanks)
2/0 Aberdeen bend worm hook (Bass Pro house branded)
6/0 Danville thread in pale yellow
Dyed yellow turkey feathers from a Dollar General feather duster
2mm white craft foam
After filming this video, I took the fly for its test swim and was pleasantly surprised at how it sits in the water, how well it casts (I am using a 9 weight with a stout leader) and how its action is on the water once the feathers absorb some water.
I was fishing mid day in bright sun, so not a great time for topwater bass action - I got some follows and one strike, but no hook ups yet. I did learn what I want to add / change to the fly in the 2nd iteration, but this fly as seen in the video will fish for sure!

Bass Pro Shops / White River Fly Shop HEAT Stage 1 Flyrod Review
Hello fishin friends! Today is a little different format than usual - today I'm giving you my in-depth thoughts on my latest acquisition to my rod arsenal - the Bass Pro Shops house brand - White River Fly Shop's HEAT Stage 1 fly rod.
This rod is a one-piece graphite fly rod measuring in at 7'10" and is rated for a 9 weight line. There are four rods in the HEAT line up - the original four piece rods that feature composite cork grips, both original rods are also 7'10" and are rated for 9 and 10 weight lines, and then they have the "Stage 1" versions of the HEAT rods which are one-piece rods that feature a radically different grip in material and shape.
These rods are Bass Pro / White River Fly Shop's answer to Sage's Bass / Bass II series, along with Wright & McGill's S-Curve Gen 2, the Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO) Mini-Mag, Echo's Bad Ass Glass Quickshot, or G. Loomis' Pro4X ShortSticks. From a price standpoint, the HEAT rods are "entry level" but from a performance standpoint, they're competitive with the more expensive rods.
These rods are perfect for throwing large or heavy (or large and heavy) flies, throwing into tight quarters or heavy cover and getting those fish out, and controlling them when you get them out of cover. They're also great for anglers who need a heavy fly rod and who fish from a kayak, canoe, or small boat as the shorter length makes landing fish easier.
I like this rod so much I'm planning on buying at least one or two more, and my dad purchased an identical rod/reel for learning how to fly fish for bass here in Southeast Texas!
This isn't a paid endorsement, I've received zero compensation from Bass Pro Shops or anyone else for this review. I spent my own money buying the rod, reel, and line featured in this review.
Thanks for watching!

Fly Fishing for Texas Pond Bass
Howdy fishin' friends. Join me on an afternoon of chasing largemouth bass with a fly rod on one of my neighborhood ponds. Its spring time in Texas and some bass have already spawned, while others are getting ready to spawn. We'll be doing a mix of sight fishing and blind casting streamers. Thanks for joining me today. If you like what you see, hit the thumbs up. Subscribe and click the bell icon to be notified when I upload as my channel grows!
Equipment used in today's video:
Bass Pro Shops White River HEAT Stage 1 7'10" one-piece 9 weight fly rod
Bass Pro Shops White River Hobbs Creek large arbor 7/8 size fly reel
20 lb Cabela's branded Dacron backing
Cabela's Saltwater series weight forward floating 10 weight fly line
The leader used is hand tied (by me) consisting of a 4 foot butt section of 25lb test Berkley Big Game monofilament and 4 feet of Seaguar Red Label 15lb test fluorocarbon
I use a Uni-to-Uni connection for the butt and tippet sections, and a No Slip Mono Loop Knot for attaching the fly
The fly that got all the fish today is a pattern I crafted to mimic the soft plastic jerk bait or fluke, tied on a Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG worm hook, with the body materials wrapped over a furled monofilament core made from 15lb Berkley monofilament.
