Tescun Pl-990 Short Wave Radio
Showing the Tecsun Pl-990 Short Wave Radio. I noticed today that when in AM Medium Wave the radio has a lot of static, but placing my finger on the metal speaker grill lowers that static. When in Short Wave or FM, I do not need too touch the grill. I filmed this about one o'clock in the afternoon, so the stations were in and out. I have taken an interest on Short Wave so as to be somewhat prepared when the SHTF. Internet may go down, my phone may go down, but I will still be able to hear stations near and far.

Starting the 2021 Garden
Well, I am not going to dig as many gardens as I did in 2020, but I will try two patches. Last year, the Sun totally burnt up everything in the yard in spite of all the water I used. It was just like someone used a blow torch on the entire yard. My corn patch sounded like cellophane. This was the second pass through this plot. Looks like I will have to go through again. Whatever.

Troy Bilt Super Bronco Rototiller
Yes, mam. I got that beast running and drove it all over the back yard. I thought sure I would have a ton of produce by planting several gardens. That row I'm tilling turned out to be a total flop. I planted green beans and peas four different times and worked hard on that thirty yard stretch. I added supplements and watered regularly. Total waste I did not get one bean or pea out of all that work. Hey, I tried. Whatever.

Troy Bilt Bronco Rototiller
Well, I had enough of those baby rototillers. I bought this beast and life should be much easier now. Well, I had a few difficulties. You know men never read the instruction manuals. I finally had to give up and find the manual. I swear, there's always something that doesn't work right. Usually me, but I eventually got it going. That danged thing that raises up and down was the worst part. I think the company should improve that design for us old timers. See all that green grass? Well, it ain't green no more. Most folks would be happy with one garden, but I went for seven. Shouldn't oughta done it. Whatever.

Old Man Tries to Start a Rototiller
It's just a baby rototiller. You might think an old man like me ought to be able to start it. Hey, it's not really so easy. I am totally shocked that I actually got the danged thing running. Whatever.

Honda 9" Rototiller and the Tater Patch
Just look at all that work I put into that small tater patch. I mean to tell you, I watched videos and learned all these cool tricks to make my Covid Tater Patch a success. No, total fail. I had the prettiest tater plants come up and they looked so good that I watered them and fed them and babied them. Total wasted. I did not get any taters out of that garden patch. The Sun totally burnt em up right towards the end of the season. Never again. No way. I'll just buy em at the store this year. I ain't seen no danged food shortage in our little town. Hey, Whatever.

Rototilling Can Be Lots of Fun
Doc says to keep doing whatever I'm doing, so I am following his sage advice. Anyone can rototill a garden like an old timer, but this old boy does it much faster. Once the hand digging is done, and the hardest part of rototilling is done, the you can get down and boogie boogie. But look hard, see those rubber boots? That was a horrible idea. I had sisters on my toes from sliding around in the boots. I could hardly walk after all that. Come on, we gotta have fun in our old age. Don't buy it? Whatever.

Troy Bilt Rototiller Compaint
Hey, the old man doesn't give up so easily, but I don't know why they built a machine that leaves so much work undone. I thought sure this machine would do all the hard work for me. Not so much though. You can see where that little ridge is. But fear not, the Ron Meister figured out a way to get rid of it, Just took a little bit of extra work. That's okay. Doc says to keep up the good work. Whatever.

Rototiller Cleanup
Okay, pay close attention to this valuable piece of information, if you are thinking about buying a rototiller for your Covid Garden, Not only does this machine work you half way to your grave, the cleanup is not so much fun either. If you rototill through grass with long roots, you have to get down on the ground and try to unsnap the roots from around the tines You may have to do this again and again Be prepared. Better yet, don't garden. Just go buy your produce at the store. But if you want to go to all this trouble, all I can say is "Whatever."#Rototiller

Another Exciting Day Fighting the Troy Bilt Rototiller...Good Grief.
Not one to give up too easily, I was determined to make this stupid machine do the job of a bigger machine. I can not believe how good that soil looks. Looks can be deceiving though. I hand dug that entire garden space plus four others I thought the Rototiller would save me a lot of time and hard work. Well, I'll be danged if it doesn't look pretty good in this clip. Never give up.Hey, whatever!

Troy Bilt Rototiller and the Old Timer
Well, they said there would be a critical food shortage and we'd better garden. So, at 74 years of age and with no gardening experience, I jumped right in. Hey, I spent a fortune on bags of stuff from Walmart to add to our "soil." Our soil is caliche and sand. Don't let the look fool you. With a bad heart, I thought the exercise would be good for me, which it was. However, the end result was supposed to be lots of produce. So, now I have no green grass left on my backyard. I have bared sandy spots. Where'd all those bags of soil, manure, potting soil, and peat moss go? I have no idea. I think it was full of stuff to kill off my plants. Here I am trying to use a dinky little Troy Bilt Rototiller. My, my, my, what a mess. All I can say is it was an interesting experience. I worked really hard to create all these raised rows, which turned out to be my biggest mistake for our soil. Hey, whatever!

An Old Timer Pretends to Garden
That alien landing site was planted with garlic, onions, and squash. Well, the squash kept coming up all summer. I froze squash, I dehydrated squash, and I fried squash. Never did see garlic. Got some onions though. Now, that stupid Troy Belt Rototiller was a stupid piece of garbage. Worked me to death and the failed completely. And that thing I used to break up the ridge was a real fiasco. Hey, whatever. My heart doctor told me to just keep doing whatever I was doing. I shook my head and kept at it all summer. Kept my heart beating. Yes, sir. My water bill cost a fortune. Silly old goat.

Stinking Trespassers
I have signs posted front and back,"Posted No Trespassing." Does that stop them? Heck no. They keep sneaking in night after night. I guess they simply can't read, or they don't see all my archery targets around the homestead. Sooner or later, they are going to get their comeuppance.

Some of the Produce I Dehydrated in 2020
I worked so hard in the gardens and spent a fortune on supplies and water. At the end of the season, the Sun burnt up all the crops, except the Squash. I continued dehydrating what produce that did grow, and I bought what failed. I certainly will think carefully about what I try to grow this year. Fortunately, we did not experience any shortages of produce at our grocery stores. I look forward to dehydrating again this year. I don't think I will freeze more though. I am afraid we are going to experience some power outages that may last several days. We did fill the freezers last year. Any suggestions are welcome. I'm a 74 year old man who lost his wife to Alzheimer's Disease. I had always assumed my wife would do this stuff.
Good luck with your gardens and all the canning, freezing, and dehydrating.

Garden Success in 2020
I worked so hard in 2020 to have several gardens in our backyard. I invested quite a bit of money, time, water, blood, sweat, and tears in order to raise some produce that I could dehydrate and/or freeze. These are some samples of successes.
The gardens did okay up until the Solar Minimum which resulted in everything dying from too much heat from the Sun. Everything looked like someone had held a torch to all the plants. I will do things differently this year.

Buy Produce or Grow Produce? Which is Cheaper for Dehydrating?
In 2020 people were saying to grow a garden because of the potential for a food shortage. I turned most of my backyard into garden beds. I worked hard through the season to grow as much produce as I could. The end result left me with mixed emotions. Then came the water bill. So this year the question is ...Should I buy produce or should I grow produce to dehydrate?

Compost Pile Totally Failed Again This Year
I saved everything I could add to the compost pile last year. I even accepted goodies from my neighbor. I turned the pile repeatedly. I added nutrients to it daily. I moved it. I did everything I could think of to encourage the pile to decompose. The end result was a total fail. Last year the Sun destroyed my gardens and yard. My water bill was so high that they called me to see if I had a major leak. Nope, this West Texas ground just sucks up any moisture. So, here I am spreading the compost pile on the bare spots and wetting it down. Now our West Texas winds are blowing the debris all over the yard. They said to start a Covid Lock Down Garden, and I did. Oh, boy. That was a waste. My thinking this year is to go through the motions of setting up the gardens again, but not actually planting the seeds, and just pretending to water the gardens. I'd still get the needed exercise, but at less expense. I can spend that money on buying produce and dehydrating again.

The Compost Pile from 2020 Failed to Decompose
In spite of all the cuttings from the gardens, food scraps, and over 60 bags of various leaves and green grass clippings, and all the hard work turning and working the compost pile from 2020, it failed. I have never been successful getting anything to compost here in West Texas. It's so dry here that everything just sits there. So, I spread it out around the bare spots. Last year, I had beautiful green grass, but at the end of Summer, the good old Sun destroyed my gardens and all the green grass, leaving only bare sand. Oh, boy. That white square you see is an archery target. And yes, that is a large mirror on the back fence. I use it to see myself when I am shooting my bows. Well, I tried to compost. Utter fail, yet again.
