Driving South Rim Drive Road is one of the best things to do in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Colorado. Along its short distance, you can pick between 12 overlooks. This is the easiest and fastest way to get panoramic canyon views, see the unique, striated cliffs, peer down to the Gunnison River, and access many of the hikes the park has to offer. The North Rim is the quieter, more rugged, and primitive side of the Black Canyon of Gunnison National Park. It has limited services and unpaved roads, yet still has the same or even more spectacular views of the canyon than the South Rim. To access all the viewpoints and trails on the North Rim, you can take the only road, the North Rim Scenic Road. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Colorado is a spectacular place with towering canyon walls and dramatic scenery. To get to some of the best views here, you’ll have to hike into the canyon's heart, which requires a permit and is very strenuous. That being said, there are several trails along the rims that provide awesome views of the canyon. Among these trails in Black Canyon of Gunnison National Park, the North Vista Trail to Exclamation Point is our favorite. This is because it has some of the most beautiful viewpoints with minimal effort. Since it is located on the North Rim, which is less trafficked, this trail is also less busy than others in the park.
