"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers — loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience. “Do you like Kyle Kulinski?” The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on YouTube. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good. “He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.” But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news — the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized. It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.

Two people have been killed and two remain in a critical condition after a suspected attempt on Donald Trump's life at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. One of the dead is 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who the FBI said fired several shots in the former US president's direction from a rooftop on a property next to the rally.

Video footage shows a gunman who opened fire at a rally for Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on a roof. The FBI says it is treating the incident as an assassination attempt. One bystander was killed in the shooting and two others were critically injured, police said.

President Biden has condemned the shooting at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania. "There is no place for this kind of violence," he said. "It's sick, it's sick." Biden said he has tried to get hold of Trump, who was with his doctors. "We cannot allow for this to be happening. We cannot be like this." Biden said, adding that federal agencies are involved in investigating the shooting.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reports that at least 90 Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli air strike targeting military chief Mohammed Deif and his deputy Rafa Salama. Approximately 300 people were injured in the attack, which occurred in the al-Mawasi area near Khan Younis, a designated humanitarian zone by the Israeli military.
