Tim Ferriss: Gamifying Violence Pt 2
Hey Everybody!
Tim Larkin here. This Part Two of covering one of my favorite subjects, the gamification of violence. Today we talk about Tim Ferriss, creator of the 4-Hour Workweek. We're going to talk about a competition in 1999 in China, where he became the grand champion. There were many things Tim Ferriss did strategically to help win the fight, and that was by reading the rules and gaming them.

Jake Paul: Gamifying Violence Pt 1
Hey Everybody!
Tim Larkin here. I'm going to take the opportunity here to talk about one of my favorite subjects, the gamification of violence. I got a lot of questions about a fight that recently happened here in Las Vegas, Jake Paul vs Ben Askren. Here is my take from the fight, and I explore the gamification of it. You may be thinking what does this have to with Self Protection? Violence doesn't have any parameters that can be gamed, and set techniques can put you behind the curve. I'll explain further in the video.

Violence - The 4 Horsemen Of Response - Target Focus Training - Tim Larkin - Awareness - Self Protection - Self Defense - Martial Arts
Hey Everybody!
Tim Larkin here. Today we discuss the 4 Horsemen of Response; Fight, Flight, Capitulation, & Posturing. The concept, modified by me, is originally from Dave Grossman. He is a fantastic writer in the industry and author of the book "On Killing". I've covered Fight & Flight quite a bit already in this channel. All of the techniques you all love are Fight. Breaking a knee, or taking out an eye is Fight. Flight I've said 10,000 times is your best choice, which simply means walking away when you have a choice. Fight is when are devoid of choice, and it's your only option. Today I add Capitulation and Posturing.

Joint Breaks: Destroy The Knee
Hey Everybody!
Tim Larkin here. Today we're going to discuss another joint break, the knee. It's a really unique joint and can't take a lot of pressure. There are six different ways that you can break the joint, and we'll go over a couple. First, though, I'm going to go the world of sports since the best data is sports injuries. It's humans colliding with humans, and humans colliding with the planet. These are forces that you and I can replicate. As always, there is a high threshold for using this information. It can cause grievous bodily harm that may not heal and leave somebody with a permanent injury, so be extremely careful especially while training.

Lessons From 2020 - Part 01
Hi Everybody!
Tim Larkin here. Here are my thoughts on 2020, and what I've learned. I was asked to be part of a documentary, and they asked the same question. This will be a two part series, and I try to look at all sides of this. I'm staying out of the politics of 2020 as much as possible, and my goal is to provide just practical information you can use. This should help solidify how we look at violence, and what needs, and what doesn't need, to be responded to. Especially in the difficult times, we experienced in 2020.

Speed vs Accuracy
Hey Everybody!
Tim Larkin here. Today we are going to discuss something that I've seen a lot of you make comments on. Accuracy & Correctness. Something about this industry emphasizes hard and fast. So today let's talk about speed vs accuracy. A while back I did an interview on a great podcast by T.J Kennedy, The Combative Canuck Podcast. Please check out his links below. What I'm hoping to impart to you all, is that you lay the foundation to speed, with slow deliberate training. Slow and deliberate training that will ultimately deliver accuracy, correctness, and speed.

Self Protection FAQs
Hey Everybody!
Tim Larkin here. It's time to answer your questions. Now that I've been doing this awhile, you've been responding to the various videos that I've put up. I'm going to answer several of the biggest questions that I've been getting since starting this new channel this year. YouTube is very new to me, and I find it interesting that some of these questions are answered in parts of the videos that didn't watch. Above all, and I'll say it ten thousand times, the tools of violence are only to be used when you are devoid of choice. There is a threshold that must be crossed, and the fact that many people's egos don't like is that 99% of conflict is simply avoidable by walking away. The tools of violence are for those unfortunate times when you may dealing with a real predator whose only intent is pure harm.

Attacking The Throat
Hey Everybody!
Tim Larkin here. Today we discuss the 3rd target of the big three, the Throat. We already covered the eye and the groin. This is a very serious target. The goal is to crush the windpipe and start the asphyxiation process. Again, this is only to be used in a life or death situation in which you are choiceless. I'll show you the classic diagrams and give you two real life examples. This strike is not to be screwed with, any training must be done in slow motion with very little force. It's easy to cause grievous bodily harm with this strike. The secondary goal of this strike, when done with full body weight, is to bring the attacker's body down to the ground and cause massive head trauma while doing it.

Bad Men, Good Info
Hi Everybody!
Tim Larkin here. I say all the time that the best information comes from the worst people, the worst parts of society. Once again, we will look at an interview with A.J Hawk and his excellent podcast, The Hawkcast (Check Below For Links). Combat sports and martial arts have methods and principles, aka Balls & Legacy. This is markedly different than another group of people that stress that only the results matter, not the form. We often find these groups of people, who seem to specialize in asocial behavior, in the prison systems. The interview covers a little bit of my background again, and some examples we can learn from.

The Paradox Of Violence - TEDx Talk in Grand Forks
Hey Everybody!
Tim Larkin here again. A while ago I gave a TedX Talk, The Paradox Of Violence. I got a huge response, and if you give me about 17 minutes I think you really get a lot out of the talk. It was a challenge to try and condense the subject of violence down to 17 minutes, but I think we did a good job. Did some physical examples too with two university students who volunteered. Also, if you're in Grand Forks in the middle of winter, bring a jacket. It's freaking freezing.

Tim Larkin & Target Focus Training Origin Story Part 2
Hey Everybody!
Tim Larkin here, and a question I've been getting a lot in the comments is where I come from, what is my background, and how did I develop my concepts and methodologies. In the 2nd part of my origin story, we again revisit the excellent podcast Protector Nation by Byron Rodgers. See the link below to him. Now, continuing on from Part 1, we discuss a gentleman that I got a lot of good information to help shape hand-to-hand combat in special warfare intelligence. We ended up training people in my command for a few years, before leaving and starting a private training group. Around 9/11 I broke off on my own, and Target Focus Training was started. Since then I've been training people with a universal tool, the destruction skill set. A skill set everybody can get results with.

Women's Self Defense Seminar Part 02 - Basic Handling of any Assault
In Part 02 of this series we cover a break out session for women that were freezing during the seminar. All of them were victims of some kind of violence, and were not able to handle the regular training. Through calm and careful instruction we were able to get them moving again, and then they performed excellently back in the regular seminar. Training does not have to be about realism, or scaring the student. It's about how effectively we can impart the information.

Do We Live In A Less Violent World?
Hey Everybody!
I received a question recently, "Do we live in a less violent world?". It was during an interview that I'm going to share with you today. An interview I had with some gentleman I think you will really like, The Business Outlaws. Check out their links below the description. In the interview, I touch on the concepts of antisocial aggression and asocial violence. We teach our kids to swim so they don't drown, but we don't have the same frank discussions over the skills of navigating violence in our lives. It's a life skill to recognize the difference between the two situations, along with a very important life skill, the Three-Day Rule.

Never Slap A Killer
Hey Everybody! I'm here with another video today, and we will be talking about the importance of getting a result if you ever have to put your hands on somebody. Above all, you have to be completely devoid of choice before you use the tools I teach. When faced with a situation of grievous bodily harm, you need to take actions that have real results. Otherwise, the consequences could be your life. Especially if you assume it's just another "man dance" between alpha males and not somebody with pure intent to do harm.

Part 01 - Is Krav Maga Effective?
In this three-part series, I discuss Krav Maga. I cover its history and effectiveness. I've fielded a lot of questions over the years about Krav Maga, and I'm hesitant to give you my opinions. There is a lot of parochial infighting when it comes to self-defense, and that's not the point of this video. This about background of Krav Maga, and my opinions on its effectiveness to deliver real-world results. Most instructors are amazing, but again, it's about effectiveness to deliver injuries, how well the information is imparted to newcomers, and how a normal person can use it to defend themselves.

In Part Two here, we cover protective gear, specific training situations, and whether or not real injuries are effected that remove function from the other person.
