SALZBURG (Austria): Episode 1 - Our DIY "Sound of Music" Tour
Having rented a car (and pressed for time), we decided to just do our own Sound of Music tour. While we were not able to go to all the filming locations, we had fun along the way.

HALLSTATT (Austria): Episode 1 - Skywalk + Funicular
We drove from Salzburg for about 45 minutes to the town of Hallstatt.
Our first itinerary was to check out the so called ‘World Heritage Skywalk’. You can reach the top using the funicular railway up the ‘Salzberg’ (salt mountain).
The skywalk hovers 350 meters above the roofs of Hallstatt and offers a unique panoramic view over Lake Hallstatt and the impressive mountain scenery.

Hallstatt is at the core of the "Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape" declared as one of the World Heritage Sites in Austria by UNESCO in 1997.
Hallstatt is known for its production of salt, dating back to prehistoric times, and gave its name to the Hallstatt culture, the archaeological culture linked to Proto-Celtic and early Celtic people of the Early Iron Age in Europe, c. 800–450 BC.

SANTORINI (Greece): Episode 4 - Magical Oia at Night
OIA VILLAGE, SANTORINI
The northern village of Oia is magical at any time of the day. There's the glowing sunrise, the hustle and bustle of the crowd throughout the day, and the jaw-dropping sunset. But then the atmosphere turns into something mysterious in the evening. It's just absolutely beautiful. .
In the peak of summer, you will enjoy the evening stroll more. By then, the heat has simmered down and you can actually feel the breeze.
In Oia, the streets and shops are also less crowded in the night time. All the daytime tourists have gone back to their cruise ships or some place outside the touristy areas.
We stayed right on the edge of the caldera. And the view was stunning. Hanging out on the rooftop was so relaxing and peaceful. It was our favorite time during our 3-night stay.
We have visited a lot of countries before and after our trip to Santorini. However, without a doubt, it is the most stunning place we've ever been to.
I can honestly say that this won't be our last visit. We will come back in the near future. Hopefully, it will stay as enchanting as it is now.
Please put this on your bucketlist. It is truly magical.

SANTORINI (Greece): Episode 5 - Hotel with Caldera View (Alfouzou Cave Loft)
DISCLAIMER:
This video is NOT sponsored by Alafouzou Cave Loft or any affiliated company.
I just wanted to show the place where we stayed for 3 nights in late August of 2019.
However, the still pictures shown here were lifted from their posting on Booking.com. In case you are interested, here's the link:

We managed to have a few video footages and pictures taken
but those were already shown on our previous videos uploaded
on our channel.
We enjoyed our stay here. Wished we stayed longer. To have this view first
thing in the morning and before going to bed at night was pretty awesome.

SANTORINI (Greece): Episode 3 - Stunning Oia Sunset
OIA VILLAGE, SANTORINI
The northern village of Oia is, hands down, the best area in Santorini to watch the most sought after sunset in the world.
The 3 prime spots are (1) the old castle to the west, overlooking the iconic blue domes of the Agios Spyridonas and Anastaseos churches in the middle of town, or (2) by the famous windmills in the north, or (3) along the hiking trail leading east.
Make sure to secure your spot early on because you haveto compete with hundreds of other photographers and selfie-seekers.
Some say the crowds ruin the experience. But the view of the spectacular Santorini sunset is worth all the waiting and temporary discomfort.

SANTORINI (Greece): Episode 2 - Oia at Daytime
OIA VILLAGE, SANTORINI
Exploring this picturesque village under the smouldering heat of the August sun was really challenging. We avoided strolling around as much as we can at daytime.
Nevertheless, on those few short times we went out, we were rewarded with the jaw-dropping day view of the village and the caldera albeit at its busiest times.
For it is during daytime that all those blue & white colors (and other splashes of colors!) would pop out vividly.
All those images you saw in pictures that enticed you to visit Santorini in the first place - they all come alive!
I'm tempted to say, "Avoid going to Santorini in the peak of summer because the heat will roast you dry!"
However, I must concede, this must be the best time to have a perfect view of the villages and the caldera.
The best weather with the bluest of skies -- unobstructed by dark clouds. No rains to dampen your strolls along its amazing alleys.
Put Santorini in your bucketlist. Visit even during off seasons. It's a magical place whatever time of year.

POROS (Greece): Episode 3 - Exploring Poros Town
The town of Poros is actually an island in itself separated by a small canal from the rest of the island.
In ancient times it was two islands, Spheria and Kalavria, which gradually became joined by an isthmus of sand.
Kalavria, the larger island was wooded and had lots of water.
Spheria, which is now Poros town, was at one time a volcano.

SANTORINI (Greece): Episode 1 - Heraklion (Crete) to Santorini via Superferry II
There is no ferry from Chania to Santorini. So we had to drive for about 2 hours to Heraklion where we took the fast ferry to Santorini.
We departed from Heraklion at 7:45am and arrived in Santorini at 11:00am. We booked a whole cabin with 4 beds so we can rest after a very early drive from Chania.
We booked our tickets online at Ferry Hopper. The vessel was Superferry II of the Golden Star Ferries.
We paid 180 Euro for the entire 4-bed cabin. It has its own bathroom.
We were so tired and fell asleep for the most part of the trip so we
were not able to explore the sun deck.
Thus, the lack of pictures or videos.
However, we can definitely say that it was a very comfortable ride.
The ferry has satellite TVs, WiFi access all over, onboard shopping,
onboard foods and drinks, and comfy seats.

POROS (Greece): Episode 2 - Sunset View up the Clock Tower
The Clock Tower is the main landmark of the island. It was built in 1927 and is an imposing feature up the hill.
It's a bit of a climb but visitors won't miss the chance to have the best view of Poros during sunset or sunrise.
You can start the climb from the alley next to the "7 Brothers Hotel". Then just follow the small signs posted randomly on the narrow streets and stairs leading to the clock tower.
Then you can go down from the other side of the hill to view the back side of the island.

Ferry ride to Poros from Aegina takes about 1.5 hrs via the regular ferry Apollon Hellas (from the Saronic Ferries Company).
Two adults + 1 kid one-way tickets cost 22.80 Euro.
This route stops at Methana Island before proceeding to Poros Island.
There's hardly any taxi waiting at the port area. We waited for quite a bit to find one.
However, there is a free minibus the runs along the harbourfront that might be able to take you closer to your hotel. We just didn't know about it that time.

NAXOS (Greece): Episode 3 - Apeiranthos Village
Amphitheatrically built at the slopes of Mount Fanari, the picturesque village of Apeiranthos is considered by many as the crown jewel of Naxos. It boasts magnificent views of the Naxian mountain ranges.
Go to the Rotonda Café Bar Restaurant just a short drive outside the town to enjoy such view while indulging on their yummy delicacies.
Over the centuries, Apeiranthos has managed to retain its unique authenticity. As the locals say, while at Apeiranthos, there is no way of telling that you are, in fact, on an island.
It seems like it’s more of a northern mainland Greece village than that of a Cycladic Island. This is due to its architecture, stone built houses, and altitude. The center of the village is located at approximately 600m from sea level.
Also, its nearly 1100 proud inhabitants have kept their own distinct dialect where even a slightly trained ear reveals their true Cretan origin.
Apeiranthos is sometimes referred to as the “marble village” because many of its buildings, lanes, paved alleys, and public squares have been constructed from marble and stone.
Apeiranthos is an absolute must if you rent a car.

We had a lot of fun driving around and exploring these little villages.

NAXOS (Greece): Episode 2 - Eggares Olive Oil Museum
The Eggares Olive Press is one of Naxos’s oldest remaining olive mills. Recently renovated, the Eggares Olive Press dates back to, at least, the late 1800s when it pressed locally-grown olives for the village community.
The olive press has been in the Lianos family (the owners) for at least five generations.
The Olive Press exhibition area features original production materials once used at the site. Here, visitors can enjoy a free tour and brief presentation of how olive oil was originally produced at that time.

METEORA (Greece): Episode 2 - DIY Sunset Tour
Instead of going with a group sunset tour of the Meteora, we decided to do it on our own.
Our hotel arranged for a trusted taxi to take us. And for 40 Euro, we had
a private 2-hr sunset tour of this stunning place.
We had more freedom to stop anytime and anywhere along the way to take pics. The driver was so nice and accommodating.
We didn't go inside any monastery. Each has different schedules as to the
time and day they are open to the public.
Our D.I.Y. tour was already late in the day so we were ok with the outside
view of the monasteries.

Night "brings" the best of Hydra and becomes more cosmopolitan as the crowd go to the beach and fill the cafés, tavernas, the restaurants and the bar-club along the beach.
For mainly family nights, have a long dinner in the nice restaurants of Hydra.
An activity that is gradually developing in Hydra island over the last years is diving.
The sea bottom around Hydra has many interesting reefs and underwater caves, ideal for scuba divers. Diving trips are also
organized in close islands, like Dokos and Spetses, and in the neighboring coasts of Peloponnese.

HYDRA (Greece): Episode 2 - Exploring Hydra at Daytime
"The town of Hydra island, which is the centre of the whole island, is built amphitheatrically around the port, combining nature and
architecture.
Main characteristic of Hydra is that there are no wheeled vehicles and the transportation of people is being made only by donkeys,
a thing that makes the Island even more picturesque."
On the Greek island of Hydra the bastions with cannons that
were used for the protection of the harbor in due time war, can
still be seen.
During the 18th century, Hydra was in need of these cannons
to protect the Island from the attacks of the Turkish fleet.

R CRETE (Greece): Episode 5 - Exploring the Old Town Chania
Chania is the second largest city of Crete after Heraklion.
It is divided in two parts - the old and new city.
The old town is enclosed within the Venetian walls. It is considered as the beating heart of the city.
As you stroll within, you will see architecture influenced by various civilizations that lived in Chania over the centuries).
There's the Venetian fortifications, the old Jewish and Turkish quarters, the Greek Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Cathedral, and even the arsenals.
If you feel like relaxing just sit on a bench and enjoy the spectacular view of the sea and the captivating lighthouse across the harbourfront.
**************
Even with our accommodation just about 10-min away, we did only 2 quick visits to the old town because we spent most of our days in Chania just exploring the beaches.
However, we really enjoyed the short time we spent in the harbourfront. The al fresco dining was awesome. The view of the lighthouse made the experience even better.
Perhaps next time we visit, we will spend more time in the old town as well as the other areas in Central and Eastern Crete.
