Being on the Dave Ramsey Show doing our debt free scream was an incredible experience. It took Brittany and I almost 3 years to pay off $120,000 of debt, and I can't tell you how much of a motivating factor traveling to Dave Ramsey's office in Nashville, TN and doing our debt free scream was. But what Dave says (and the research behind it) is true - once you see the progress of your monthly statements going away one after the other, you get excited and want to do even more to speed up the process. When we first started our debt free journey, our income was about $40k/year. After picking up another three or four jobs, and about 2 years later, Brittany and I had raised our income to $140k/year.
