A leaked draft of a possible majority opinion presented the possibility of a ruling in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case negating – effectively overturning – the oft-debated Roe v. Wade decisions due to Constitutional Considerations has caused quite the political row. Despite the knee-jerk emotional reactions from the Far Left and early claims of victory from those who are anti-abortion, the true argument against the 1973 landmark SCOUTS decision is Constitutional: a violation of the 10th Amendment of the US Bill of Rights. The seven Supreme Court Justices who voted in favor of the "Jane Roe" legal team justified their decision citing the 14th Amendment's "Due Process" statute while adding not allowing a women to have an abortion would violate that same amendment's declaration the government can not infringe on people's "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness." Of the two dissenting Justices, William Rehnquist argued the 14th amendment does not protect abortion (citing legal issues) while Justice Byron White says the decision violated the rights of states to set such laws (A10). As the Biden Administration and its cohorts in the Washington Left have continued milking school shooting tragedies to push their collective gun control agenda, it would seem some Republicans in Congress are buying in to some of the rhetoric. Much of what has been discussed concerns what are referred to as "red flag laws." On the surface, it seems like a reasonable idea: most people would equate this with "keeping firearms out of the hands of people who are mentally ill and have shows signs of wanting to perpetrate a mass murder." While that makes for a nice headline, it's time for an honest discussion about the potential abuse by powerful politicians and cronies who wield economic as well as social power. If "red flag" firearms ownership laws are passed, who decides the parameters for a "mentally ill" label? Does anyone really trust a government who has seen a Presidential administration from 2009-2016 which used the IRS as a weapon against political opponents to have such power? Does anyone believe politicians who recently encouraged violence against Supreme Court Justices to decide who loses their gun rights? There are several potential abuses of power which could stem from any "red flag" laws aimed at limiting legal firearms possession by citizens and gaining more control over people's lives (perhaps a pre-cursor to a CCP-like Social Credit System). Wrongthink or disagreements with powerful entities could get someone red-flagged as well; we saw this in recent times when Google did that to a whilstle-blower who revealed the company's manipulation of information on its search engines. While working on alternatives to fossil fuels in the future is a noble and practical approach, the current crop of "Green Agenda" politicians are pushing ideas which either are not working, not ready for prime-time or ignore truly efficient and clean potential sources. As Twitter's censorship and manipulative practices as well as the U.S. government's attempt to control the flow of information continue to be exposed, rather than admitting what happened, taking responsibility, Big Tech and the Biden Administration doubled down on their continued suppression of ideas, facts and discussion certain political factions fear being exchanged. Why is the Left as hard-pressed to push its radical agenda on America so fast and through underhanded means? Are they worried about losing the House in 2022? Recently, the idea of packing the Supreme Court by adding activist justices to the bench has resurfaced as President Biden has faced Constitutional challenges to his Build Back Better Agenda. Like President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Biden entertained this idea to get his way. Still, if Biden gets to pack the High Court, what's to stop the next administration from expanding it to fit its needs as well? This would be a disturbing and expensive trend. Since Ulysses Grant's presidency, the US Supreme Court has been composed of nine Justices. The numbers in previous years fluctuated between five and ten. Nine seems to be a logical number and one we have lived with for over 145 years, yet not officially established in our Constitution. We invited two leaders from the Keep Nine Coalition to discuss with our London Center Fellows the need and plan to establish an official Keep Nine Constitutional Amendment, which would set the number of SCOTUS Justices to nine. We also discuss the potential consequences of court packing.
