Kaino Kai Recurve Bow and Todd's Arrows
I am shooting the Kaino Kai Recurve Bow and handcrafted wood arrows by Todd at AllThingsArcheryandShooting at YouTube. His arrows are carefully matched to a bow and are incredible to shoot. I am shooting at a dense foam that measures 2" thick. The foam self heals and I am able to leave it outside in all kinds of weather. I also shot at the Yellow Jacket Bag Target that I cover with a plastic bag each night. I do believe my neighbor's new pup would like to chew my face off.

Tang Chang An Assymetrical Bow by Alibow Archery
I am shooting my Tang Chang An Bow by Alibow Archery. I sm shooting in my back yard. This bow is longer on the upper limb than the lower limb. I am shooting thumb draw using a blue plastic thumb ring from Vermil Archery.I am shooting at a foam target from Cablela's. The foam target is sitting on a covered bag target. The backstop is a mattress wrapped in a plastic tarp and secured to an old clothes line pole. As you can see it's a typical windy day in West Texas. You can see the yard is almost nothing but sand. I decided not to garden this year because the cost of watering last year was outlandish and a waste due to the sun totally burning up the garden and grass. This bow is awesome to shoot and can handle arrows up to 35".

Backyard Archery Range
I am setting up an archery range in my backyard. In this video, I am shooting my Scorpion Long Bow along the side of the house. It's about a 22 yard range. I am shooting into a BlackOut Bag target that I had to repair with duct tape. The arrows get caught on the field point insert collar. What a nuisance. My main goal is to get exercise since we can't go anywhere or do anything. I really like the Delta McKenzie 18 sided target. I have learned to rub a bar of soap across the first six inches or so of the arrow shaft to aid in arrow removal. I do like the small Yellow Jacket Bag Target. And of course, I continue to enjoy the foam targets for easy arrow removal. You can also see me on Ron's Archery on YouTube where I have over 580 videos.

Wooden Arrows vs. Tennis Ball
I am shooting my Scorpion Long Bow at a tennis ball hanging in front of a foam archery target from Cabela's. I am shooting Todd's handcrafted wood arrows from about 25 yards. Since shooting Todd's arrows, my hits have greatly improved.

Trying Out My New Backyard Archery Range
I am setting up a large Archery Range in my backyard. I have about 37 yards to shoot from the back fence up to the targets. I keep the four bag targets covered up to protect them from the rain I have four dense foam target squares to which I can staple Archery Target faces. The burlap bags are filled with plastic and have stood up to the weather for about a year. The bag targets are okay, but the arrows tend to set stuck in the fabric. The white square foam squares require a arrow puller. I prefer shooting into the softer foam garages rom Cabela's as the arrows come out easily. In the winter I can pull a large tarp over the entire range.

Shooting an Alibow Horsebow on My New Backyard Archery Range
I have started setting up a new archery target range in my backyard. Today I am shooting a fiberglass bow from Alibow Archery. I have four archery bag targets set up so far and I keep them covered with heavy plastic bags in wet weather. I have 37 yard available since I am not planting the garden this year. The there white squares are high density foam that I will staple Archery Target faces to. There are two more set up on the ground and covered with a tarp at the right. I have a huge tarp draped over the back of the range and can quickly cover the entire setup in five minutes for the winter.

Shooting Korean Monarq Horse Bow
I am taking advantage of a beautiful day to shoot my Korean Monarq Horse Bow in my backyard. I have started building a large archery range across the length of what was my garden last year. Due to the upcoming water shortage, I have decided not to attempt a garden this year. This will give me 37 yards from the back fence up to the target range.

Shooting Arrows at My New Backyard Archery Range
I am attempting to learn to use a site on a Recurve Bow. I am shooting at about 20 yards and at 35 yards. At first, I was shooting low at the 35 yard distance and had to play around trying to raise the arrows. "Chase the Arrows" with the site is the key. I will eventually get it sited in just right. I set this clip to fast motion, so it doesn't take long to watch it.

Breaking Wooden Arrows
What a sad day. I shot a bunch of wooden arrows today. Darned things did not stand up to the sudden impact against Archery Bag Targets and/or the Round Target from Delta McKenzie. I am so sad that these arrows break about midpoint of the shaft. I guess I will have to break down and pay more for the next bunch of wooden arrows.

How Not to Grip a Recurve Bow
Because I am old and have a short term memory problem, I kept forgetting to properly grip the recurve bow. I made this video to force myself to remember not to grip the bow improperly. I hope this helps my poor old brain to make a new habit that becomes automatic.

Testing New Arrows- Axis Focused Energy N-Fused Carbon 500 Spine
I am testing out some new arrows. These are the most expensive arrows I have bought from Lancaster Archery. They are the Axis Focused Energy N-Fused Carbon 500 Spine. I cu them down, used glue melt wax to add the inserts. I added the field points and took them out for a few test shots. I like the arrows and am enjoying their being cut down. I will cut them down a bit more once I my form is improved.

Shelby Takes a Break to Fling a Few Arrows
Shelby works online at home seven days a week. I talked her into taking a break today. She was flinging arrows from her Recurve Bow. She is shooting a twenty pound bow. Her target is from Delta McKenszie. It is a 32" Round Target with a replaceable core. The target is self-healing. The arrows are easily removed.

5 Longer Archery Practice Session
I was trying to beat the upcoming bad weather. I was focusing on blind nocking and keeping my eyes on the target. I was shooting a horse bow with thumb draw. I need to really build muscle memory for this process. When I switched to the Monarq Bow by Daylite Archery, I noticed the serving was coming loose, so I had to reserve the string. That was a first for me. I think I did a good job of it. I was also shooting at the new Delta McKenzie Round Archery Target.

Flinging Arrows Because I Can
Some days, I just go outside and fling some arrows just because I can. I am trying out the hip quiver because I don't always like to use the pocket quiver. As you can see we had a bit of good old West Texas Wind. I still managed to hit center of target. One minute, it's windy, then it's not. I had to turn that Blackout Bag target around because I have shot out the middle of the other side. I am shooting new Warrior Arrows from Lancaster Archery. Sadly, I lost several points and inserts that were not properly fitted. Lancaster should just let the buyer do the gluing.

4 The Old Man Prepares for the Big Hunt of the Season

3 Stuffing the Old Archery Target into a New Bag
My outdoor Burlap Bag Archery Targets have held up for over a year. This bag had thinner plastic bags in it and the arrows had begun to poke all the way through. My bright idea was to just stuff it into a new bag, which turned into a real project. The end result is great though. It should hold up for another year. These burlap sand bags are too narrow. I need the big potato bags. That's my "Birdie, Birdies."

2 Testing Inserts on Warrior Arrows from Lancaster Archery
I received a dozen Carbon Warrior Arrows from Lancaster Archery. I added the field points and tried to pull the inserts out. They held fine. Went outside and shot the arrows and lost several inserts and points. Looking at the inserts I could see there were not ridges to hold the glue or wax to the shaft. Whatever glue was used did not hold. Lancaster would do better to let us glue the inserts, instead of our possilbly losing inserts and points. Here I am testing the arrows again. Also the front edges of the feathers are not glued down properly and I guess I will have to wrap them. I've had a feather edge go through my hand before. That is not at all pleasant. I certainly would not order these arrows again. I trusted the reviews. That's always taking a big chance.
Even the cheaper Chinese arrows I have bought faired better, even having a wrap over the front edge of the feathers.

1 Long Bow by JD Berry, the Bowyer
Here I am trying to shoot a bow at 63# @28". It is more draw weight than I can comfortably handle with my torn rotator cuff. I refused surgery and took up archery. It has worked so far, but I have to be careful about over bowing, which many people do anyway.

Shooting a Long Bow Made by JD Berry, the Bowyer
I brought out a long bow that was made by JD Berry. It's 57 # @28". Leave it to me to start off with the wrong arrows. This bow is 62# @30". It is way more than I should be drawing. I can't hold the draw for very long, but it is fun to shoot every now and then. It really smacks a punch.

Shot My Tibetan Qinghai Bow from Alibow Archery
I used my new Pink Brass Thumb Ring from Vermil Archery out of Thailand to shoot my Tibetan Qinghai Bow from Alibow Archery. This is the fiber glass version which is a lighter draw weight than my laminated version. I cut a small piece of an old watch band and wore it between my thumb ring and my thumb to help secure the ring to my thumb. Works great.I shot some wooden arrows and had one break when I gently removed it from the target. I need recommendations on where to purchase some well made wooden arrows.Comment below.

I Shot Manchurian and Wooden Arrows with My Qinghai Bow
I enjoyed shooting 35" long Manchurian Arrows and some heavier wooden arrows with my Tibetan Qinghai Bow from Alibow Archery. I was a bit reluctant to draw back the full 35" arrows with this bow. I think I can do it with the laminated version. This bow is fiber glass and lower draw weight. I am not sure I can handle the 35" at full draw with the much higher draw weight bow.

A Good Set of Arrows Makes a Big Difference
I go through lots of arrows shooting different bows every day. Every now and then I find a set or two that really does well with specific bows. Everyone stresses the need for repetitive good form. I totally agree, even though I have trouble with remembering all the steps. If I would only shoot one bow and one set of arrows, I know that I would improve quickly. At 74 years of age, and with a brain that is not as quick as back in the day, I struggle, but I try to have fun with the bows and arrows and various targets every day. Fling some arrows and stay safe.

Yet Another Day of Testing Arrows That I Repaired
One bad thing about shooting arrows every day is the likelihood of damaging arrows. The odds are some will lose their points in the target or backboard, fence in my case, or those stupid Horse Stall Mats that melt around the arrow shaft. Some arrows wind up with busted nocks. Some shafts break. And of course, feathers and vanes get damaged. I'm not rich so I take the time to repair arrows when possible.
