Ocean City Plymouth Devon England The Dartmoor Hill Pony Association (DHPA) is a membership organisation for hill-farmers using their ancient right to graze ponies on the commons of Dartmoor all year round. It is the Breeders’ Association for the Native Semi-wild Dartmoor Hill Pony Population.
To be a member, a Dartmoor hill-farmer must have paid Dues to the Dartmoor Commoners’ Council and be using rights registered at the Dartmoor Commoners’ Council office, grazing their herd all year round. Dartmoor Hill Ponies 2nd March 2023 Roxborough Downs. Dartmoor Hill Ponies are so important to the moor’s nature and hill-farming culture; a valued part of our history for millennia.
Today there are 1,000 Dartmoor Hill Ponies left roaming free on Dartmoor; twenty years ago it was 7,000. We are at a critical point where it is possible that they will disappear completely. Please support our work to ensure that the Dartmoor Hill Ponies are not lost. With your help Friends of the Dartmoor Hill Pony charity can help us keep Dartmoor as we know and love it.
