I Can’t Leave Until I’ve Made A Film
Filmmaking is easy. It’s so easy I can make a film without leaving my car. It’ll be annoying, and I’ll swear a lot, but I bet I’m up for the challenge. Or maybe this was a really stupid idea…
So much of the filmmaking space on YouTube is taken up by people talking about gear and inspiration, and not actually making stuff. And I guess if that’s what you’re into, then that’s awesome, but to be honest I’m pretty bored by it all. I want to see filmmakers consistently making actual films on their channels, and if I can’t have that then why not just do it myself?
So to get me going I’ve found that the best way to spur on my creativity is to add tedious, frustrating limitations to push my patience to the brink of total self-destruction; not the healthiest habit, but still better than binge drinking. And by the end of it, maybe I’ll have made something I can be proud of. So please, join me on this very stupid journey as I attempt to make 12 short films in 12 months, starting with this one, where I attempt to make a film in its entirety - write, shoot and edit - without leaving my horrible little sweatbox of a car.
I’ve put a list below of all the gear I used to make this, none of which was truly optimal for the job but all of which I’m pretty comfortable with using which is probably the most important thing.
Anyway, enjoy my sweaty grunting, and subscribe for more.

I Made This Whole Film Without Leaving My Car
This film was entirely written, shot and edited in my car by myself, as part of a very silly challenge that, on several occasions, caused a total loss of sanity that I have yet to recover from.
The setup was minimal by design, using as little equipment as possible due to obvious and very annoying space restrictions. I don’t have a lot of money to throw at my problems, so I tried to craft a bit of a story that accentuated the positives and hid the negatives of the situation… that whole “work with what you’ve got”, thing. And it worked.
What I got in return from a fun but irritating endeavour is a film that builds a little bit of a world around a character without ever leaving his side; a dark but down-to-earth comedy with a guy who’s equal parts relatable and reprehensible. And I really hope you like it.
Also be sure to watch the video of me making this stupid thing afterwards (
• I Can’t Leave Until I’ve Made A Film ), if you haven’t already…
