Beat parental burnout ..
More than one million Australian children live with a parent who has depression, putting those children directly at risk of developing depression and anxiety themselves.
Parenting is probably the most demanding ‘job’ in the world, and the challenges have only intensified during the last few years.
As the world moves beyond the pandemic, parents are finding themselves grappling with the threat of parental burnout.
This syndrome is characterized by 3 things:
*Emotional exhaustion,
*Depersonalization,
*And, a decrease in self-fulfillment.

2. A contrast with your previous parental self,
3. Feelings of being fed up with your parental role,
4. And, emotional distancing from your own children.
These symptoms often progress in stages, beginning with overwhelming exhaustion, followed by emotional distancing, and ultimately leading to a loss of fulfillment in parenting.
Unlike ‘job burnout’, parental burnout is not something you can escape from.
You can’t run away from your children or responsibilities, and this sense of entrapment can lead to suicidal ideation or violent or neglectful behaviour towards your children.

Eventually, I got back on the road, overtook the P-plater, and forced him to slow down.
I was going to stop in and give him a piece of my mind, but then I decided to let him off the hook.
On the way home, I began to wonder what this Divine nudge was all about?

The Dangers of Heavy Metals
My client had driven for three hours for her session at the Purple House.
By the time she arrived I had to hold her arm, she was so unsteady on her feet.
She hadn’t been able to sit, stand or lie down in any position without pain for over a year.
Her medical records revealed the following: Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, fibromyalgia, Irritable bowel, asthma, hiatus hernia, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet.
Next, I looked at her shopping list of drugs that she had to take daily.
Just reading the content sent my brain into a spin; she represented a medical disaster on the scale I hadn’t seen before.
I decided not to judge a book by its cover, put any misgivings aside and started the session.

Unravelling the secrets of healing.
Did you know that your body has a method when it comes to healing?
It heals itself from the top down, and from the inside out.
This is according to the Law of Hering, a 17th Century Homeopath, who made many observations about the effectiveness of natural healing.
The core of his work was that symptoms resurface as part of the healing process.
He believed that in ‘correct’ healing, disease leaves the body in the reverse order of appearance of the symptoms.
For instance, the healing power goes from the inside to the outside, from the greater organs to the lesser organs, from the head space first, and from top down to the bottom of your body.

How ignoring your instincts could kill you.
A few years ago we adopted Millie and Mildred.
The two ducks waddled around inseparably, each mimicking the other.
If one quacks the other quacks.
Once, a light aircraft flew directly overhead.
We heard the drone of the engine approaching.
The quacking intensified and then stopped.
I couldn’t help laughing as I watched the two earth-bound white birds.
They both had their heads on the side with one eye pointing skyward, watching the bright red plane fly by.
They would look at one another with a “ quack”, then cock their heads again to spy the plane as if to say “How the heck can that be?”
It was hilarious.
The previous owners had wanted a good home for their ducks.
They came and checked out our place and were happy to see we had a dam so the ducks had somewhere to swim.
The day they arrived we let them go near the dam.
We had other ducks there and I hand fed them all some grain.
The newcomers wanted nothing to do with potential friends or the water and headed straight in the opposite direction.
They set up home close to our back door, all the time quacking together as they fossicked happily for grubs, snails and other treasures!
Every day, they demand a few handfuls of grain, pecking at my shoes whenever I venture near the chook-run where the feed is kept.
They quack as if to say, “Hey what about us?”
One day, I decided to let them enjoy a swim, so I caught Millie and Mildred and threw them on the dam.
Well, they almost walked on water!
They got such a shock, they flapped their wings frantically trying not to drown, and before I knew it, they were back near the back door.
I don’t think they knew what it was, having been reared in town with nowhere to swim.
They had lost their natural instincts.
They didn’t take ‘like a duck to water’!
It got me thinking about us humans.
We are afraid of storms that bring us much needed water.
We mistrust the trees that tower over us, scared they will fall on us.
And when we cut them all down the rain stops and we have a desert.
For some reason we have lost our instincts that tell us that Mother Nature has our back.

Change your diet and transform your child …
Pete and I have been seeing a lot of children for ‘diagnostic’ sessions recently.
Sometimes the child might have nightmares, continues to wet the bed, has skin rashes, been diagnosed with ADHD, is a finicky eater, has demanding or disruptive behaviours.
Other times, the child might have headaches, growing pains at night, allergies or asthma.
Whatever the reason, parents with children find their way to our facilities.
Usually, Pete and I get to the bottom of the reasons why the child is playing up, or always tired, or getting behind at school.
Often, we find that children have a blood sugar level that is way too high, and what’s even more concerning is that some kids already have fatty liver ‘syndrome’ by the time they are 4 years old!
Equally scary is that some teenagers are now medicated for high blood pressure.
Other kids have ADHD and parents are forced to medicate them, otherwise they can’t attend school.
All of the above situations are heartbreaking!

Are Parasites Secretly Infesting Your Body ?
The World Health organisation has come out saying that over 3.5 billion people are heavily infested with parasites in their bodies.
From what Pete and I have seen, we can’t argue with that.
Another scientific article claims that 85% of North Americans (who have much the same lifestyle as we have) suffer from parasites, yet they don’t know they do, they just put up with the symptoms.
The medical system doesn’t look for parasite/worm issues, because they believe it’s a third world country problem.
And if a medical test is conducted, it’s not conclusive.
That means you can’t trust the result, because only a tiny percentage of parasites can be detected using medical tests.
There are trillions and trillions of micro-organisms that are parasitic in nature (they steal your energy, nutrition, vitamins and minerals).
There are thousands of small and large ones, that can spread all the way throughout the body.
There can be an overgrowth of Candida (a mold) or E.coli, as well as roundworm, fluke, and tapeworms.
Most people who have Lyme disease don’t even know that they have a parasite problem for instance.

What's up with women ?
Did you know that women are twice as likely as men to say they had their health concerns dismissed by a GP?
Did you know that women’s health is not as well researched as men’s health?
Advocates have called for a deeper understanding and better education around women’s health, including for doctors.
Leah was a classic example of this.
In her early thirties she went from doctor to specialist for exhaustion, muscle pain, and irregular periods.
Her GP diagnosed her with polycystic ovary syndrome but did not provide her with a treatment plan.
“Nothing was done about it,” she said.
“It was like ‘you have PCOS’ — that’s it.”
PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects between 10% and 28% or 45% (the studies aren’t clear!) of women of reproductive age.
It causes a range of symptoms from extreme pain to infertility to insulin resistance.
For years, Leah was left to navigate this complex and debilitating illness on her own.
Leah’s story had a happy ending, but that is as much as I am legally allowed to tell you.

The Brain Needs Animal Fat.
“Our Brains Need Animal Fat to Fully Function”
Our brains are two-thirds fat; of that, 20% is supposed to be comprised of an omega-3 fatty acid called DHA.
There are no plant sources of DHA, only animal sources.
What happens when you don’t get enough DHA?
Bad things.
DHA is required for the formation of myelin, the white matter that insulates our brain circuits, allowing electricity to flow through them and our nervous system to function properly.
It also helps maintain the integrity of the blood-brain barrier, which protects the brain from pathogens and toxins.
“Perhaps most importantly, DHA is critical to the development of the human cortex—the part of the brain responsible for higher-order thinking,” writes Harvard-trained psychiatrist Georgia Ede in a Psychology Today article titled “The Brain Needs Animal Fat.”
“Without DHA, the highly sophisticated connections necessary for sustained attention, decision-making, and complex problem-solving do not form properly.
It has been hypothesized that without DHA, consciousness and symbolic thinking—hallmarks of the human race—would be impossible.”
DHA plays a “unique and indispensable role” in the “neural signalling essential for higher intelligence.” — says Simon Dyall PhD, Lipid Research Scientist Bournemouth University, in his 2015 study on the matter.
Our first animal source of DHA is our mothers, in their wombs during the third trimester, and then from their mammary glands, ideally for at least 2 years.
“If enough DHA isn’t available to the baby during this critical 27-month window, it is unclear whether the consequences can be completely undone,” Ede says.
Those consequences include ADHD, autistic spectrum disorders, mood disorders and other psychiatric disorders, she says.
Around 80% of American adults are deficient in DHA.
Even many meat eaters are deficient, Ede says, because of the high concentration of the omega-6 fatty acid LA (linoleic acid) in their diets, especially from refined vegetable oils.
When too much LA is present in the body, it reduces the production and bioavailability of DHA, a 2014 study shows.
What is clear is the fewer animal foods we eat, the lower our DHA levels tend to be.
Compared to omnivores, DHA levels are 31% lower in vegetarians and almost 60% lower in vegans, a 2005 study found.
The best sources of DHA are wild-caught fatty fish like anchovies, salmon, herring, mackerel and tuna, and wild or pasture-raised meats, eggs and dairy.
It’s important to note, factory-farmed, grain-fed animal products are not nearly as high in DHA, and contain a harmful concentration of omega-6 fatty acids.
For those of you who absolutely will not eat animal products, there is one non-animal, non-plant source — algae oil.
However, it is a refined product, making it less bioavailable and it contains lower amounts of DHA per calorie than animal sources.”

Are you struggling with guilt?
This year I turned 60, and I can truly say that I have never felt more happy or contented.
I love being my age and I love how good it feels inside my body!
Looking at my beautiful daughters (in-law too), all busy mothering and juggling a million hats, I see how stressed they are.
The same with my wonderful young female clients.
Life is simply too busy with too many demands, too noisy, too much peer pressure, not enough sleep or TLC …
I wish I could wave a magic wand and make all that stress and overwhelm disappear.
Now, with the luxury of hindsight, I can see that I wasted so much precious time and energy feeling guilty.
I was constantly guilty about something.
Guilty about not giving the kids the personal attention they needed.
That I didn’t have an income to help pay the bills.
And, once I started earning money I got a new layer of guilt, that I wasn’t able to give as much time to the kids.
*Guilty when the house was dirty.

*Guilty for not being strict enough on the kids, or being too harsh.
*And, if I went shopping for myself, I used to feel so mortified that I hid the shoes or clothes in the cupboard for a while … etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
I guarantee that pretty much everyone reading this has something they felt guilty about at some point in their life.
So, what I want you to do now is grab a piece of paper and join me for this exercise I wish I’d known about when I suffered from chronic self-imposed guilt trips.
Make a list of things that bring up guilt for you.
*You know; you have bought yourself a pair of shoes that you will probably never wear …
*You took yourself out for lunch instead of paying the hydro bill …
*You bought a gym membership and never used it …
Now, we need to look at the guilt so we can unpack it …
Guilt is actually NOT an emotion.
That’s a surprise isn’t it, because it feels like a negative emotion.
But it is actually a mood.
And, it zaps your brightness and vitality.

Have you ever hit the wall ?
Have you ever hit the wall?
You would have heard of people running marathons getting to a point where they say “I hit a wall” and couldn’t go any further.
For the first time in my life, I had that experience last Friday evening and again on Saturday.
Johanan and Tom (sons), Ethan and Cohen (grandsons) and Ben my son- in-law and I had organised to go to Frenchman’s Cap for a three day hike.
It’s supposedly one of the most difficult bush walks in Tasmania. (in Tassie’s South West Wilderness)
I had climbed Federation Peak when I was about twenty, so I thought “yep no probs”!

Are you feeling challenged?
You are not the only one!
It’s as if we are no longer capable of suppressing traumatic experiences or emotions like we could in the past.
Not so long ago, you could get away with letting things simmer in the background.
Now, the Universe is throwing everything in your face.
Every day, I see clients in turmoil or pain.
Emotional pain hurts as well.
Did you know that to the body, emotional pain feels like physical pain?
If you are dealing with the pain of rejection for instance, it might feel as if your hand has been crushed.
You would almost be better off to have your hand crushed, because at least you would go to the Emergency Department, and they would help you take care of it properly.
Whereas when it comes to frustration, heartbreak, worry, stress, overwhelm, panic, depression, or any form of inward suffering, we tend to think that we can just ignore it and it will go away.
It reminds me of watching people being lost in our mazes on Sunday, when we had our Food in the Forest Event.

Is your breakfast killing you
If you want to get healthy and lose weight you should skip breakfast.
True or False?
Let’s find out.
Until the 1800s most breakfasts were leftovers from dinner.
By the late 1900s the Industrial Revolution took people off farms and into factories.
People were moving less, and those heavy leftovers caused indigestion.
So, the idea of a lighter breakfast was created, and we got cereals, adding tons of sugar, and using cheap grain.
Break-fast literally means it’s the first food activating the digestive system after the overnight hours when nothing was eaten. (Breaking-the-fast)
The thing is, it doesn’t matter WHEN you break the fast.
You can even break your fast at noon or 2pm.
It’s really WHAT you eat.
Because the first thing you eat will affect the response of two major things:

How to stop the Christmas Binge!
Have you ever thought: “If I eat one more mouthful I will burst?”
You might find yourself eating breakfast at one family members house, lunch at another and finish with a leftover evening meal somewhere else at Christmas.
You are left bursting at the seams, to the point of spilling over.
It reminds me of when I was in Holland in 1981.
The Christmas and New Year celebrations run well into January.
Custom at Grada’s family was to cook Olieballen, alias “oil balls”, a deep-fried donut mix.
Let me tell you they are delicious, and traditionally only cooked once a year, on new years eve.
One of Grada’s brothers had eaten so many olieballen that he became violently ill and missed out on the 12 a.m. fireworks completely, stuck in front of the only toilet in the house, vomiting his heart out.
We have probably all been guilty of gorging ourselves with too much yummy cooking, ignoring all our body’s warning signs!
So how can we minimize the risk of falling into this yearly trap of overshooting the mark and paying for it afterwards?
