EU discuss plan to use frozen Russian profits in Ukraine arms fund | dTd News
The European Union’s foreign policy chief has proposed a plan which would see revenue from Russian assets frozen in Europe transferred to the fund that finances weapons for Ukraine.
Under Josep Borrell’s proposed plan, proceeds from assets such as interest payments would go to the European Peace Facility, an off-budget fund that provides military aid to countries outside the EU and has been used mainly for Ukraine.
But, Russian officials have called that move “potential theft”, and warned of potential consequences for those that made the decision.

Ukraine frontline: exhaustion of war in battle-weary town | dTd News
Two years on from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, citizens living near the entrenched frontline are divided between determination and despair.
The town of Lyman in many ways reflects the mood of a nation struggling with a grinding, seemingly endless war.
Lyman is a small, half-ruined railway town, first seized by Russia, then liberated and now trapped, precariously, near the frontlines of the Donbas. Its civilian inhabitants are torn over what is now best for their country’s future.
The failure of Ukraine's counter-offensive last year is clearly weighing heavily on many in Lyman. Some are wondering whether the time has now come to trade land for peace. Others remain determined to fight on, while worrying about whether arms supplies from western allies will continue to arrive.
Jane Hill presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Andrew Harding in Lyman.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died, Russian media report
Russia's most significant opposition leader for the past decade, Alexei Navalny, has died in prison inside the Arctic Circle, Russian news agencies report, quoting the prison service.
Seen as President Vladimir Putin's most vociferous critic, Navalny was serving a 19-year jail term for offences widely considered politically motivated.
He was moved to an Arctic penal colony, considered one of the toughest jails, late last year.
The prison service in the Yamalo-Nenets district said he had "felt unwell" after a walk on Friday.
He had "almost immediately lost consciousness", it said in a statement. The causes of his death were being established, Tass news agency reported.

EU leaders agree €50bn support package for Ukraine | dTd News
All 27 EU leaders have agreed a €50bn aid package for Ukraine after Hungary had previously blocked the deal.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the new funding, saying it would strengthen the country's economic and financial stability.
There had been fears Hungary's PM would again block the package as he did at a European summit last December.
The money will help to pay pensions and salaries and other costs over the next four years, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says will strengthen the country's economic and financial stability.
Thursday's decision comes as US military aid for Ukraine is being held up by Congress.
